Legion Academy Alex Davy interview

By lunitic501, in Star Wars: Legion

Alot of talk in here about upcoming points adjustments/errata.

The highlights (I have only been able to watch about half of it so far)

Points will be published with next RRG update which should be the anakin/maul update next month

Acknowledged clones could use some nerfs but also some buffs (barc speeder)

Pathfinders are going to take a dive in points

Wookies are being looked at in Alex's words "I think u'll be happy with them after november"

Older heavies and anti armor weapons are something they have also been working on tweaking.

P.s. forget he also said they were working on adjusting the dewback as well

oh my goodness this made my day I have loved both of these since they were released but they're not practical as is cant wait to see if theyll be useable

Forgot he talked about dewbacks getting some attention in the points adjustments as well I'll add that to the post

Any talk about Vader?

Alex also noted that a lot of the trooper unit heavy weapon upgrades with Impact were overcosted along side some of the additional heavy upgrades in the trooper expansion packs so im nervously hopeful that there will actually be a significant number of trooper upgrades that get notable point reductions.

Also almost guaranteed that all the rebel and imperial heavies are getting readjustments to be on a par with the AAT which was deemed the sweet spot for Heavy support design.

Not sure about Rebels, but all Stormtrooper heavy weapons should cost the same. Each has its pros and cons.

I think the DLT and RT are significantly better than the other two, so I'd disagree.

Also, if the RT was the same price as the DLT, there would be no reason to take the DLT (unless Armor became very prevalent, but in that case the HH-12 might get taken if it also were to cost the same).

very pumped for wookies fix! Hoping the pathfinders discount includes an errata for pao and bistan to be able to be added to core units

Looking at the game they don't have that many bad units......... tho the bad units are a raging trash fire that really need to be fixed. Hopefully FFG tries to buff the worse of the worse instead of just nurfing GAR. :(

CIS:

  • Droidekars: Everyone has already said it above way better then I can.

GAR:

  • BARCs: Like CIS both these factions only really have one standout bad unit.

Rebels (the faction where the units are either trash or great lol):

  • Both heavies. The elephant in the room if you will. Both these units should be first on FFG's list. Landspeeder should be easy with all those weapons they could lower (or just the speeder itself). The airspeeder, oh boy that needs an offensive, defensive, and identity change.............
  • Han Solo. He is bad and really needs some help.
  • Wookies. Don't really work like you think they should and Mandos sort of seem to do everything they do.
  • Pathfinders/Fleets. Both are meh and could use some help, but the above are more pressing issues.

Empire (faction I know the least about, but seems to be seems to be considered the worst):

  • Dewbacks. Like the landspeeder it was dead on arrival
  • Scout troopers. Could be one of the worse units in the game?
  • Opertive Vader and Boba. With the power creep they could use a bit of love.
  • A little baby buff on both heavies? They are good, but I would not mine a little push in order to get a heavy meta for a year.

So an older post of mine and I got a lot of my wishlist lol.

GAR was pretty easy to point out what needed a buff and how the rest needed some kind of nurf.

CIS I am still hopeful they buff the droidekar, but that faction may be in the best place out of all of them so I will be fine if they don't touch anything here.

Rebels 3/4 ain't bad lol. Still think Han will make the final cut. A bit shocked about the pathfinders, but will be fun to see how they come out

Empire needs the most help so I bet they will have a few more. Interested to see where all the heavies end up at.

I didn't know the Stormtroopers had another weapon besides the DLT

I would love it if I could take PAthfinders as core units. That would solve the problem of " i have 8-10 Rebel core units all painted up, why do I want to just give my oponent a 120pt advantage?"

My guess is Pao and Bistan errata will give them 2 health at least to match with other named heavies in other factions. The option to add them to core units would be cool as it would also open up new options for extra range in both vets and fleets.

I think the HH-12 needs to cost less than the DLT. Even if its only by 1 or 2 points. Its cumbersome and exhaust.

and I'd like to see Cumbersome go away.

I can deal with cumbersome, I'd rather see exhaust go away.

Good interview, but I really wish someone would ask one of the designers if the spamming of strike teams is what they intended or if they plan to do something about it.

We'll see in about a months time.

So listening to the interview and a few interesting things I noticed (still need to finish the video):

  • GAR is most likely going to get hit hard. He says they wanted to bring the faction down a level to match the other three. Also to try and get rid of boring/unfun playstyles (GAR fortress builds). Also jokes at one point that he hopefully did not nurf them too hard. Wants the faction to have more options.
  • AAT is the standard for all heavies to be compared to. Even a bit of a hint that GARs tank is not quite there. He hopes they now found the right spot for heavies to be in the meta now.
  • POINTS! Seem like the main way they will address units will be with price changes. Other major change would be to change what the keywords do (like danger sense being changed to work in melee). Don't want the cards to become useless for players so they are reluctant to add or remove abilities.
  • Seems to have dropped the limited/conservative talk about the points changes. He used the word "extensive".... so ya get hype!! Really got the feeling that this change is to bring all the old stuff back into the meta....... especially since that what he said lol.
  • Sticking to yearly changes and after major tournaments are all over. Also says emergency point changes can happen if needed.
  • Wave 10 will have droids and still hyping the rest of wave 9.

I actually like that all of the rockets feel different with their own weaknesses. I just think the HH-12 needs to be dirt cheap with all of its flaws.

Interesting. Was there any talk about the Core expansion Packs? Security and OOM droids live in limbo...

With the trooper expansion packs? They talked a bit about specifically the stormtrooper stuff like the captain and heavies getting lowered, but they were already talking about that unit specifically so it might have just been an example. I'd expect price cuts on the captains and/or specialists from all the packs and maybe some of the heavies. Droids are different enough that it's hard to say though.

I suspect that the OOM and security Droid personnel upgrades Will perpetually live in limbo even if they do drop them in points. The reason being that they are effectively an upgrade of a pre-existing upgrade, that is to say you would only ever consider playing either of them unless you were already playing the base model personnel upgrade. Sadly most lists just don’t run the extra model to begin with.

Honestly even if the Security droid was dropped to 7 points its effect is so insignificant (and an exhaust effect no less!) that I'd still play the basic droid and spend the 1 point difference elsewhere. For the OOM droid if it was 7-8 points I might start considering it my lists where I was already taking the basic droid personnel upgrade but only because I'm lazy and the co-ordinate buffer zone sometimes catches me out.

So honestly in my opinion unless they almost halve the cost of the OOM and make the Security droid the same cost as the basic droid upgrade (will never happen) I can't see either of them getting a significant increase in play.

Like the the other said above. Looks like their motto is that core units will remain basic and unchanged, but most of their attachments will go down in price. The impact weapons may be auto include as a way to counter any heavy list.

As for CIS (which is my favorite faction) I doubt that we will see much play for those units at the pro level. They are really there for newer or casual games since they just cover for mistakes in the HQ chain.

People keep thinking clones are going to be brought down in power.

Alex was quite clear that the other factions were going to be raised up.

He said he didn't want to cut off the tall poppy.
