Jeeez, 3 blue/1 black anti-squad and Counter 2 with an offensive reroll (on ANY attack, even a Counter), a defensive reroll, and 4 hull? That’s pretty good for only 17 points!

Though remember that Dodge doesn’t effect flak. So these suckers are a bad investment going after ships. They certainly can, but they need to be cautious and ready to flee after a hit

I agree; given how inefficient it is as a bomber it's tempting to compare it to the Defender. You get counter but lose speed (meaning you can get hit first) and instead of actual hull you're relying on risky keywords to do heavy lifting and keep you alive.

Aside from the question of whether expensive superiority fighters will become worth taking, consistency has competitive merit all its own. So does not being terrible against ships, which appear in 100% of competitive lists. 😉

Im not sold on the D7s. They are only slightly harder to kill than a generic a wing, without the speed or the good antiship dice. I think if you dont screen them with torrents they will really struggle.

At least the d7/torrent prices are around the right way, unlike the rebels where the expensive xwings escort all the cheap fighters!

They may not have the "good" antiship die, but they do have a free, built-in reroll.

It depends on size of dice pool you’re facing. A delta-7 that jumps into a pile of Ywings will do some staggering damage before it finally dies. A delta-7 jumped by flight controller and Howlrunner Boosted interceptors will not do as well. Though their adept-counter means each interceptor that attacks a D7 will almost die.

Though this is using the full knowledge of imperial commanders and uniques without knowledge of any GAR uniques or squadron boosting commanders

EDIT: Also, if/when GAR gets access to AFFM, D7s can possibly jump even interceptors. If D7s jump first, they should do extremely well. Look at the difference: FController interceptor jumps a D7. Averages 3 damage. D7 on average drops that to 2.5. So takes two to kill A D7 while they take an average 1.5 damage.

FController D7 jumps, interceptors. They average over three damage, so each activated D7 kills an interceptor. Inceptor does 1 average back on their counter after swarm and dodge go off. Each D7 bags a kill and loses an average 1 health.

So a D7 getting jumped still does alright. A D7 jumping first wins solidly.

I doubt that Republic players will be using generic Delta-7's to attack ships because they only have a Blue die, whereas both the Republic Y-Wing and ARC-170 have the Bomber keyword. Even Delta-7 Jedi Aces probably won't be effective against ships (they shouldn't because the stock Delta-7 doesn't have missile-type weapons). I expect it will be more about keeping the Delta-7 out of ships' flak range and focusing on eliminating enemy squads to clear a path for the bombers -- which could be tricky because the Munificent Comms Frigate has a Red flak die.

I wonder if the Separatists will have squadron-support ship titles, like Stronghold, or Officers, like Instructor Goran? Cards similar to those would encourage Separatist players to keep their squads close to their ships, thereby luring Republic squads into flak range.

I’m curious about this as well.

I'd be surprised if CIS ships had squadron-protecting ship tiles and Officers, because virtually all of their squadrons are droids, so it seems unlikely the CIS would put much effort into protecting them.

I can't think of any CIS commander from the Prequels or Clone Wars series who showed any concern for droid-craft, so there isn't a named character who could be a CIS Officer that provides defensive or evasive buffs for squadrons.

But any CIS ship with the Offensive Retrofit slot could equip Reserve Hangar Deck and replace a destroyed Vulture Droid squadron. That's something!
