Edge of the Empire Alphabet

By Kainrath, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

nice work

Thanks

Looks good, but I have a small complaint:

"A" vs. "an" is a pet peeve of mine, though mistakes are common and understandable. The rule is not that before vowels it's "an", it's that before vowel sounds it's "an." In words with an "H," it depends on whether the first syllable is stressed. So "an hourglass" vs. "a horse."

So when you write a letter like "N" it is pronounced "en" and thus needs an "an" not an "a." I've so far only encountered the mistake once with "a N is for Nemesis" but I felt I had to say something.

An: A "ay"
A: B "bee"
A: C "see"
A: D "dee"
An: E "ee"
An: F "eff"
A: G "gee"
An: H "aych"
An: I "eye"
A: J "jay"
A: K "kay"
An: L "ell"
An: M "em"
An: N "en"
An: O "oh"
A: P "pee"
A: Q "kyoo"
An: R "arr"
An: S "ess"
A: T "tee"
A: U "yew"
A: V "vee"
A: W "double-U"
An: X "ex"
A: Y "why"
A: Z "zee"

Thanks for the input! Can you point me to where you caught the "a n is for nemesis" mistake (page #)?

You don't get naming rights for Zs, you don't use them enough. 😝

Computer Terminals sidebar, page 9.

I also noticed that you said "PC's discussion" on page 33, where I believe it should be "PCs'."

Thanks! I'll get it fixed and updated.

You list Impossible difficulty as being seven difficulty die. Is this a mistake, or a houserule? Impossible difficulty is the same as Formidable, except that it costs a Destiny Point.

Edit: Nevermind, I see now you labeled it as "a new difficulty." I would suggest a different name, though, since Impossible is already a difficulty

This was a houserule by the original author, who, I think wrote this with the EotE Beta in mind, which probably didn't include the later Impossible ruling with a destiny point.
I'll try and think of a better term to use there.

I noticed two more examples of a/an: "a A is for..." and "a N is for..." both in table 4.4 on page 35.

I was mostly skimming, so I may have missed some typos and stuff, but I've brought up all the ones I noticed so far.

Some of these are going to be very useful for me. I'm selecting and trimming to make myself some cheatsheets. Thanks!

Seven Difficulty dice?! Inconceivable! Make an Inconceivable check.

Suggestion for S is for Starship:

Maybe add something along the lines of "When naming a ship for an NPC, some of the best names are ones that cause the players to wonder what the story behind the name is. This gives you as a GM a prompt for adding flavor to the NPC's backstory and will make the world feel more alive to your players."
Something like "Beloved's Regret" or "Ranger's Forsaken."

And/or maybe add something about names that "reflect the nature of the NPC or their mission."
Like "Defiant Truth" or "Black Harbinger."

Cool Stuff!

That's a hilarious and apt name! I think we'll go with that!

I'll add this in...great suggestion!

I mentioned it as a comment on your blog but under "Q is for Quirks" and "T is for Talents" the tables are really small compare to the others to the point I have to actually zoom in which is rare. It's a small issue but I'd rather the table split over a few pages if necessary. Not sure if that is feasible or not.

I'll see what I can do about that

Updated to v2.0 correcting multiple errors

For the record, when it comes to 'the big book of bounties' if you are looking for Mandalorian characters (as in Cara Dune, The Child etc) I am more than willing to offer my stat blocks for the project.
