4 Horsemen of the Republic (HS)

By Cuz05, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Republypse? Repucalypse? Repocalypse?

Instantly attracted to Plo, 7FG LAAT and 2 ARCs, I'm nevertheless a little flat on the Warthog, Squad Seven version that HS demands. Something about the lack of punish from the LAAT guns and blockableness of the I3 ARCs. I don't know, still worth a test, quite possibly not bad.

Anyway, looking to plot a slightly different course through HS. Not sure my astromech is fully functional, but still....

Plo with CLT.

212th with 7FG.

Broadside with Ion.

Wolffe.

200pt.

No bid for Plo but maybe that's ok. Anything that threatens him can be screened off to a degree.

The bruisers will deploy in a corner, the fat ones facing lateral. Plo central but inevitably diving for cover behind the big boys, perhaps after blocking their approach, if they need further time to decide their attack run.

My plan is to hang Broadside out a little bit, opposite flank to Plo's starting position. He'll offer alternate bait and form an Ion screen on that side, then either turning in, rotating in and circling round or staying out to lock down a flanker.

The LAAT can exchange bumps with Wolffe until their engage can be seen and set.

Wolffe can then turn away or speed through, if possible, ideally switching between front/rear with an opportune 4k ofc. The LAAT will likely need to try and skirt any scrum and circle it, rather than getting mushed in there, though the roadblock potential is a thing.

Plo tries to sit back and stay moderately safe on the approach, slinging a focus if needed. Then looks for the window to let rip with the 5 die bullseye. He could flank, but opening Wolffe and the LAAT up for red moves/reinforce, while still being able to get the focus, makes them a lot more flexible. Taking the disarm from 7FG reloads may not be particularly clutch here, but it's obviously a decent option on later engages, if the LAAT lives and gets R1 on something. He'll need to be felt out, hanging at R2 of the clear and present danger with no focus is risky.

One thing I'd love to slip into a game, is a surprise double modded 4 die front arc shot from Broadside....

We'll see, seems like fun and it's a handsome looking bunch.

I kinda like it. Remember to consider the surprise 4-dice Rroadside Range 1 attack with rerolls after 7FG. Folks might not be expecting 4-dice double-modded from a Y-Wing.

I can't really think of anything to change: I don't think Mace would be better than Plo, or Oddball better than Wolffe. Double Init 5 might not be bad, tho. Probably best as is.

I keep being tempted by Oddball, stop it!

But getting to use 7FG before the thing gets Init killed by opposing aces could be pretty helpful :D

Wolffe just chucks a ton of dice though. Him or the LAAT should be 1st to explode, so that front/rear 1-2 seems quite important. Kinda the only thing steering me away from Warthog and a Squad Seven tbh.

And if it's Wolffe who goes 1st, surprise Broadside sledgehammer!! 😂

Repocalypso. 🤘

I'm gonna be flying this soon and think it's super cool. Plo makes the whole list so much more dynamic
