Clone Efficiency

By Dossmo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

My idea of a Republic Jousting list. What do you think? Pure beef in the clones and a punchy flanker with a great ability, albeit with a low initiative all around, which is my only real fear in flying this...

Clone Efficiency

(51) 212th Battalion Pilot [Laat/i Gunship]
(3) Hull Upgrade
Points: 54

(42) 104th Battalion Pilot [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 42

(42) 104th Battalion Pilot [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 42

(44) Ahsoka Tano [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(2) R4-P Astromech
(15) Delta-7B
Points: 61

Total points: 199

If you trade the hull upgrade to change the LAAT pilot to Warthog, you can help the low initiative problem.

I agree with Synel about going up to Warthog. I would also consider dropping the Delta on Snips for CLT or other gunners. I am a big fan of Snips but you could drop her for two torrents and some upgrades.

Warthog, 2x SSV, 2x BSP, brings you in at 194 with everyone at I3. Room for Wolf pack and a couple of Dedicated.

Warthog with Rex, 2x SSV, CLT Snips with the Astromech, comes in at 197 with everyone at I3.

I feel like warthog and two arcs is a fantastic place to start with republic right now. Warthog to keep them alive and the ability to essentially give both arcs double modded shots is big.

Just trying to figure out if a third arc or a clt jedi are better fits.

Been fiddling with this:

(54) "Warthog" [Laat/i Gunship]
(3) "Fives"
(4) Clone Commander Cody
Points: 61

(42) 104th Battalion Pilot [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 42

(42) 104th Battalion Pilot [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 42

(49) Obi-Wan Kenobi [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(4) Calibrated Laser Targeting
Points: 53

Total points: 198

Slippery Obi can be on the flank. I like cody and fives because of you're positioned correctly, the arcs are between you and your target, and your two die gun at range probably won't hit. Then cody softens up for the arcs double modded attack and fives can give you an evade for next turn, when you start to get focused down.

Similar to what I'm doing. Plo can be super clutch if you're looking for a Jedi to come in. Passing or keeping the focus, with perfect info, gives you a neat choice between ace and support. The pass allows you to plan your bumps, which is really handy with the medium bases.

Thanks for the inspuration. I think, I will mix all of those into this:

Clone Efficiency

(54) "Warthog" [Laat/i Gunship]
(8) Barrage Rockets
Points: 62

(42) 104th Battalion Pilot [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 42

(42) 104th Battalion Pilot [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 42

(45) Plo Koon [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(2) R4-P Astromech
(4) Calibrated Laser Targeting
Points: 51

Total points: 197

I dropped Codys off-chance for a strain and Obi for barrage rockets to give the LAAT at least some punch and upgraded to Warthog. Seems like a good jousty list with an agile flanker. Will try on sunday.

One thing to watch out for is the 0-2 range restriction on Plo. It makes it difficult to flank him safely and keep the options open on his ability. You have to decide pretty early how far to go with him, if you're going to let his support go unused to get him a good position. It's dangerous to hang him out a bit and end up in 2 minds. You can ofc, bring it into play again after securing a decent flank, but you want to be clear yourself, whether you're baiting, flanking or stalling the decision.

  1. "Warthog": Clone Captain Rex
  2. Squad Seven Veteran
  3. Squad Seven Veteran
  4. Blue Squadron Protector: Dedicated
  5. Blue Squadron Protector: Dedicated

Although I feel like this lacks a lot of punch. Then again Hyperspace legal, so ehh. Perhaps... In Extended something like...

  1. "Warthog": Perceptive Copilot, Ghost Company, Clone Captain Rex
  2. Gold Squadron Trooper: Proton Rockets
  3. Gold Squadron Trooper: Proton Rockets
  4. Gold Squadron Trooper: Proton Rockets
  5. Gold Squadron Trooper: Proton Rockets

This lets you roll with Torrents to aim bullseye better. "Warthog" can shoot twice and spend a Focus result on each shot to give Torrents that don't already have it a Focus Token for the missiles. His pilot ability ensures that the Torrents are alive to return fire as well. Alternatively can swap Perceptive Copilot for Barrage rockets to make the LAAT/i a bit more dangerous in its front arc. Yet another option is to pair Ghost Company with Clone Commander Cody and Perceptive Copilot to give out strains like crazy. Just some options that becomes available with the double Crew and Gunner slots.

I really like that Rex and procket build. It's one of the few times that the ol' Capt'n feels like he's making a strong contribution to the list.

I feel like Wolfpack really brings something neat for missile Torrents. If you stick missiles on the LAAT as well, and sprinkle Sync console, there's a lot of efficiency there, with the rerolls allowing the lock to be passed for no real cost.

Just seems so terribly easy to overload the LAAT.

This with Warthog and two blue squad veterans, all with concussion and sync console, Warthog with Wolfpack... Really fun, just focus with all of them and let them shoot you. You give them in return 3 fully modified 3 dice attacks.

I have looked at exactly that for HS. There is kind of an awkward amount of points left over if you put a Jedi in there, which I wanted to do, but 4 SyncConc Protectors fits at 197, with Boron on Warthog.

That's a lot of nasty. Particularly if the Boron splashes damage cards 1st.

Just have to get things in multiple arcs....

This conversation helped me arrive at this list. No bid, unfortunately, but with Plo crew, that makes the LAAT a juicy target (so put the bsps in front, but also helps it be more defensible. It’ll only have a single mod on first engagement if you do reinforce (rerolls), but then you can pass the lock over to the torrents and obi wan who we’re not being targeted.

Funnily enough, this was almost the exact list I built around the idea. Only change was Boron on the LAAT ofc. Swarm no likey.

2 things gave me pause.

-That many points in the LAAT does feel sketchy without a horde to screen it or a couple super aces to solo the enemy list.

-As hinted earlier, catching the thing you want to totally mess up in all the necessary arcs might be hard. Your opponent has at least a little say in who they shoot and where the initial lock goes.

Plo crew might be the thing that helps it along. There's considerable damage mitigation in that card. For 10pt, I think he's a steal. He only seems expensive because Reps don't have super beefy crew carriers like the Deci, VCX and so on. In most other factions, he'd cost more.

Good luck flying it, hope it turns out decent :)

If I get it on the table, I’ll try to remember to make a report back here.

I ran this last night because thematic = fun.

What I found was that I flew it horribly and my opponent did a great job capitalizing on that. BUT Plo's crew card is bonkers good. More often than not he was removing a token or flipping a damage card. And the reinforce was good too I suppose.
