So with the recent restock of the mats, I decided to pick up two, one of Deathstar and Deathstar II..

I went to lay them out on my gaming table and noticed they are slightly bigger than the 3 feet it’s suppose to be, 36 1/8 inches to be exact.

Did they do this as the material will shrink? Are they still official and playable? WHAT ELSE CAN GO WRONG IN 2020?!?!? (Yeah seriously just being silly on the last one!)

I suspect the tolerances for the product are such that they end up a tad oversize. An eighth inch is pretty reasonable for this sort of product.

I've got a starkiller base mat that's almost an inch too big lol, just kinda part of the mats. Still totally legal.

Interesting. At least one of the third party mat vendors has a disclaimer there could be as much as 1.5% shrinkage due to the rubber bonding process (heat). Not knowing what the tolerances were for legal play I've been gun shy of getting one for that reason.

A couple years ago when each system open event got a different mat there was a big thread on here discussing/complaining about size inconsistencies.
