Previews will be November, rule update info and upgrade card update info I am hoping for October, but whatever happens happens.
When will FFG post Previews of Clone Wars Armada expansions?

There's a very dedicated group there. But, Y'know, covid kinda puts a damper on things. There's a few Facebook groups local to that area you could join to get in touch with them, ask questions, share stuff, whatever. But for the moment they're just chilling out. Probably painting all their legion stuff at home 😆 message me and I can get you the right names of the groups.

I have joined Ohio Armada and 614th Sector fleet. Have got a couple games with another new player. But haven't gotten much response to IRL games outside of that.
Is there another group more active?
Not wanting to IRL because of covid makes sense (I am willing to wear a mask) but mostly haven't gotten much response at all.
Also I am fairly impatient haha

At the moment, that's probably it. Those are the groups I'd recommend most anyway. But like I said, covid. Matter of fact, the X-wing and legion groups locally haven't had any action since March either as far as I can see. And the two groups are fairly overlapped, the X-wing one being just larger by a good margin. But games around here are not dead. Just on hold mostly. Out of an understandable abundance of caution.
Game store rooms in the city are reopening though. I know that much at least. Maybe next spring we can get back to full swing and what not. Patience, you must learn. 😜
Tomorrow*
*relative to date of reading, not date of reply. It it has not occurred, try again after one twenty four hour cycle. Star Wars Armada Previews are not recommended for all players. Please talk to your local game store owner to see if Armada is right for you.

Well, I run the Armada group up in NEO (Ravenna), and while we've been slow ever since Legion dropped clone wars stuff, if you wanna get some games in I'm almost always down. (I also admin the Star Wars Armada Ohio group on facebook if you want to get in touch).
Edited by Darth SanguisThey need to fix the problem with new players physically being unable to get into the game even if they wanted to before worrying about trying to get more crap on and immediately off their shelves (presumably for years).

I think I agree with you -- I think FFG/Asmodee is desperately trying to attract new players with Clone Wars Armada, which is why there are Starters without accompanying single-ship expansions. The problem with this is that by only releasing Clone Wars Starters, it means that all of the veteran Armada players have no choice but to buy the Starters to get the new Clone Wars ships, which could deplete the available CWA stock and causing them to quickly sell out, thereby preventing prospective new players from buying them and getting into Armada.
IMO FFG/Asmodee should've created a $20 Starter Pack that contained all the necessary accessories to play Armada, without any ships or squadrons, which would've been perfect for new players and easy to understand. Veteran Armada players wouldn't need to buy the Starter Pack at all, so there'd be plenty available for new players. The Acclamator, Consular, Munificent, and Hardcell ships should've been released as single-ship expansions, enabling both new players and veteran players to buy the ships they want -- instead of bundling them together, which means if you want 2 Munificents, you have to pay $200 for two Separatist Starters and will be stuck with 4 Hardcells; instead of only spending $80 on the two Munificents you wanted.
It seems like FFG/Asmodee is doing everything they can to compel customers to buy the $100 Starter packs, whether they want all the included items or not. I believe this will hurt Clone Wars Armada sales and will be a barrier for new players.
Also, the Starters will be more complicated to reprint because they contain so many different things -- some of which customers don't want or need. Whereas if there were single-ship expansions, one particular ship could sell out because of high demand, FFG would know with absolute certainty what that ship was, and they could swiftly order reprints for that ship, then get them produced and back on retailer shelves ASAP.

"How do I get into Clone Wars Armada?"
Here is this starter. Buy this. Play games. We play weekly here on X day. Come on out.

Counterpoint:
How are new players supposed to know about Clone Wars Armada when FFG hasn't mentioned it since the beginning of August?
Is the purpose and value of promoting a product really that difficult to understand?
Is advertising a novel or arcane invention that you're completely unfamiliar with?
Why are you basically saying "NO, I don't want to learn more about Clone Wars Armada."
Because most people who are interested in something, are eager and open to learning more about it. Explain why you are opposed to this? And why you, and the people who think like you, believe that you take precedence over the other Armada players who would appreciate more information about Clone Wars Armada from FFG?

You're just trying to jump in I take it? For starters, welcome! I hope you're able to find some of the things you want in stock. It really is a big issue and i know my community has lost a couple potential players trying to join in.

It’s a big issue, but not insurmountable. There is enough out there, for both Imperial and Rebel, to make good, fun, powerful 400 point lists. Are they going to be the most competitive? Maybe not, but if you’re anything like me you’ll lose your first 15 games anyway, not matter what you’re flying. Starting slow with just a few expansions lets you learn to use what you have before you get in too deep.
Is it ideal? No. Is it frustrating? It can be. Can you get into the game and have a lot of fun playing with current stock? Absolutely.

From my experience people dont learn about armada (or other tabletop games for that matter) from reading articles on the website they learn about it by seeing merchandise on the shelf of there FLGS and from seeing people play the game (usually at there FLGS). So I would think FFG should be more concerned about getting (and keeping) product on the shelf rather then putting out articles

I found the game through an fb friend who posted pics of another game and armada was being played in the background. Most of the crowd I play with saw it in the local stores. Cannot think of a single person who knew who ffg was before getting into either armada or x-wing (the gateway drug) first.

I actually discovered them through "Anima" and "Arkham Horror" but for wargames, yeah X-Wing was what hit my radar.
I discovered imperial assault thru an add in game informer magazine. There was a pamphlet included with imperial assault that showed armada. That’s how i got into it.

Yep, I learned about it when I went into my FLGS and saw it on the shelf. I had never heard of FFG (and I certainly wasn't reading their website articles) before I got into Armada.

I learned about Armada from my friends who played X-Wing. I didn't get into "hardcore" board games until a few years ago, so I didn't even go to board game shops and therefore wouldn't have seen Armada on the shelves. I think that's the case for most people: If you're not into board games, you'll never know about games like Armada.
Regardless, if that's the case, that visibility on retailer shelves is the most effective form of promotion, then that blows a huge hole in FFG's reserving new Armada products only for GenCon. Because no one outside of the board game community knows what GenCon is, therefore they won't be attending GenCon, watching online, or browsing board game news sites covering GenCon.
So basically, FFG is promoting Armada only to the board game community niche market.
Are there really that many players who have been aware of Star Wars Armada for years, but haven't bought it, and supposedly now they will because of the Clone Wars factions?
For years, Armada players have said that the core set's $100 price has been a major barrier to entry for new players. FFG/Asmodee must have known that. So what did they do? Create two $100 faction starters for Clone Wars Armada. 🙄 I don't think they're getting the message.

This really surprised me when I saw the price also. Really doesn’t see like the best of ideas.
Sorry for the necromancy but it appears that we wont get an armada clone wars stream this month wich surprises me cause I thought they would do one this month to go over all the new rule changes.

How surprised is it possible to get about lack of Armada news? ![]()
Even without a stream, I’m expecting preview articles in November

Since their streams are on 2 Wednesdays and 1 Tuesday, with nothing the week of Thanksgiving, I wonder if they'll do an Armada stream on December 1st or 2nd.
