Admittedly premature and possibly already discussed elsewhere not to my knowledge, but since SW Squadrons is canon, wouldn't that make the single player named pilots we see eligible to be new pilots for OT era ships? Not your player pilot perhaps, but the Imperial Titan Squadron commander, Varko Grey could be an interesting TIE/In pilot with a fun ability as we learn about him. Titan 3, the TIE/B that gets left behind and vaped in the "Hunted" CGI short, could have some fun ability that gets triggered when at distance 3 of friendly ships. Heck, even that "bloodthirsty" X-wing pilot could have some fun ability -- maybe gain a focus every time you fire on a target you fired on in the previous turn? These probably aren't balanced, just having fun spitballing. Even generic Titan and Vanguard Squadron pilots would be fun. Plus abilities from the game, or even the components you can use to customize your craft, could be turned into ordinance, modifications, talents, etc. For example, the Carbanti Reflec Hull component prevents enemies from targeting you at long range but your hull integrity is lower (max health -30%, lock on range reduced to 1500m). A Carbanti Reflec Hull mod would say make you immune to targeting locks at range 3 but cost you a hull or shield token. Again, not seriously suggesting my examples (so don't mathwing them to death just yet!), I'm just saying the game's canon status creates some exciting opportunities for new pilots, abilities, and add ons!
Just a thought.
Nay, a dream...
SW Squadrons a source for new pilots? Abilities from "Hunted" Short?
I honestly wouldn't mind 'custom heroes' being a thing to help the 'your dudes' aspect of X-wing, but that probably would just be a ship with talents, which is already a (bad) thing you can do.
I highly suspect we will get components overall of course. I could see Titan 3 giving a bonus and a stress to an ally when they die, and Varko getting something when an ally is attacked while they are both in arc or something.

Varko Grey: All enemy craft within 1 range of your ship must treat obstacles as extending 1 range further than their physical boundary.
I dunno, something to replicate how he juked that X-wing pilot into an obstacle. Extend the boundaries of all obstacles for enemies close to you, but not yourself, to represent your luring them into danger.
Shoot. I really like that...
Above: An X-wing pilot takes his eyes off the road... for the last time. Unseen: His likewise inattentive astromech, extending its manipulator arm to flip Varko Grey the bird.

I would be tempted to huck my opponent's mini at the wall if they tried to ever play that. I don't like to claim 'NPE' but holy **** is that an NPE. The way circles work means that more than doubles the size of obstacles.
I cannot see such an ability working in tournaments either. Imagine having to constantly measure around the entire outer edge of an obstacle. Not to mention that the shape of the obstacle would be very strange for obstacles that have protrusions.
A better effect in a similar vein would probably just be getting to force a opponent within 0-3 who hits an obstacle to take a strain or, if your really feeling saucy, a damage. Change it from weird geometry around obstacles and into just rewarding you for getting them to hit it in the first place.

Sad but true. A dream that is shared by many.
Nah, with how often Grey kturns to joust that x and wins, he should have a benefit for red maneuvers
Honestly, while there will certainly be an upgrade pack (even if just cards) for squadrons, my personal dream would be it heralding in a co-op game with an advanced power management rules for piloting.

"After you perform a red maneuver, you may assign yourself 1 focus or evade token"?
Would that be broken on a, say, I5 Interceptor pilot?
