...announce Imperial Probe Droids while ESB is in theaters for the 40th anniversary!

I'm hoping for the updated points and RRG. But probe droids would be pretty cool too!

Let the wookiee win

Im not sure probe droids are what Empire needs though. I would like to see dark troopers personally. empire needs something really good to make up for a string of bad releases.

Probe droids would be a great addition in Legion

Probe Droids could be cool. I do wonder how they'd be made worth it, though. Empire already has a "look at the opponent's command cards" card they can take for 1 pip.

Even if they weren't that good, I think it could be a cool model that would be fun to paint!

I keep hearing this but it seems like all my theaters are still closed.

I actually rented a theater to show ESB for my birthday in the spring and had to cancel due to plague.

I would love probe droids as a cheap infiltrate option. Basically an Inferno, Probe Droid, Vader, Iden list all infiltrating at point blank range, could be really fun.

Ah yes, the good ole "Where the _______ is the enemy?" list!

I feel like they'd get pretty easily scattered though if you wanted to just drop units all around the map. I would probably run this, though, if only for the meme of it!

Give the probe droids a self destruct rule and infiltrate and just kamakazee them into opposition turn 1! They would have a comms upgrade for sure so getting them orders of the bat wouldn't be hard.

What would be an ideal Rebel counterpart to an Imperial Probe Droid?

Bothan spies?

From one of the Gen Con live streams we know that probe droids are coming at some point, and that they will have the same, or similar mechanics to the probes that are coming out for CIS. So I'm sure they will have some use even if we don't know what that is yet. Also I expect if nothing else they will likely be a rather cheap activation.

I hope the **** not. That **** is poison for the game.

Hopefully they'll also be SF like the sith droid so they'll just replace sniper strike teams at worst

I think the way probe droids will work is youll put like 6 facedown tokens on the board (3 with probe droid icons and 3 with blank icons). And when an enemy unit moves within range 1 of a token you flip it face up. And its either a probe droid or a blank token. If its a probe droid you place a probe droid there. I also think all the probe droids will share one activation but move and attack independently of eachother.

I dont think theyll be a good unit or at all what Empire needs.

Empire already mostly has the things it needs, it just needs them to be better. Same with Rebels.

What they need to do is make the older units that suck not suck anymore.

How would that work with the probe Droid in the CIS specialist pack that gets attached to a corps unit?

It doesn’t, that was just a wild guess.

imperial probe droids operate completely independently of corps units so I dont think theyre really the same thing

Per the game designers, they use the same Observation token mechanic. Your guess as to how they work makes zero sense both in terms of the the name of the token and how probe droids are used. They aren't Ambush tokens. They obviously are themed in terms of reconnaissance. I figured they are some sort of variation of the Spotter mechanic that people have been crying out for since day one.

it makes perfect sense. probe droids arnt combat units. theyre deployed deep in enemy territory to search for the enemy. If they discover the enemy they try to hide and monitor enemy transmissions. If theyre discovered they self destruct to hide whatever information they might have captured.

so the way I would make probe droids work is you place 6 tokens and the probes hide under 3 of the 6 tokens. and the empire gets some kindve intel bonus for each hidden probe droid at the start of the turn and they get that bonus until all the probe droids get destroyed. that mechanic works perfectly to represent probe droids hiding and spying on the enemy and giving a bonus to the empire until theyre destroyed.

its not an ambush mechanic at all. because theyre not combat units. I dont know what youre talking about. theyd have like a 1 black die blaster for minimal self defense and orders to self destruct if theres any threat of them being captured.

probe droids arnt used as spotters. the empire has separate spotter droids for that. the spotter idea makes absolutely no sense.

You're right, that actually makes more sense now that you've added to it. It sounds pretty cool.

Very much doubt that one , since they have never defined in canon what a Bothan is. We have one scene where they have a mention and one line ok in a book saying that they were growling (Bloodlines), and even that had no context for how they looked.

They may not even be a race and may in fact be something else.
