EA SW: Squadrons "Hunted" CG Short

By Agrivar, in X-Wing

I am aware that there is a thread talking about the "Star Wars Squadrons" computer game, but I think that the CG Short deserves a thread for itself to be discussed there as an "Star Wars space fighters combat short".

I would love to see a "Rogue Squadrons" TV series done with this taste for "choreographed dogfights".

Wow!!

Oh. My. Gosh. Heck yes.

FFG will do an expansion based on this game, just wait.

tie interceptor kturns to just joust an xwing, and wins

so the developers really are xwing players after all

I think that Dameron Poe does a similar maneuver in "The Last Jedi", and maybe that's the basis for what we see in the trailer, but yes, it would work as a depiction of a Koiogran turn. And I wouldn't entirely discard the possibility that some of the developers are xwing players, because the TIE interceptor seems to do a barrel roll at 4:25. Yes, it is a real world maneuver, so maybe they added it without knowing the Star Wars: X-Wing miniature game, but it is fun to rewatch this short thinking what could be reproduced the "X-Wing" miniature game. Will be see someday an Upgrade card which lets you turn a missile attack againt the attacker?

Slight correction: I'm of the opinion that poe does a tallon roll in the opening sequence of TLJ.

That short had more Star Wars than the entire Star Wars sequel trilogy.

They have directly named X-Wing tmg (and the old X wing/tie fighter PC series) as influences in an interview.

That said, SPOILERS FOR THE VIDEO

what a tough little space nazi. I'll be sure to make him burn in my new republic campaign.

If it has energy distribution and is a co-operative campaign, Iโ€™d be all for it.

That removed any doubts I had about getting this. That was terrific.

It looks great. However the consumer base has been burned by flashy cinematic's before.

I loved the trailer. It was weird to see a tie trick an opponent into running into a cliff. I feel like it broke some archaic rule where only the bad guys run into stuff during a chase scene.

I mean, when your big achievement is assassinating a rightfully elected official and murdering hundreds of thousands of subcontractors at the same time, you might be the bad guys.

It's obvious that in that short the imperial was the good guy (tries to save his squadron, tries to save the bomber pilot) while the rebel is the bad guy (faceless guy, who relentlessly hunts a damaged pilot that is fleeing for survival after the battle is long over).

Then you had the Empire whose military doctrine was to commit genocide, enslavement based on race, and terrorize the population by annihilating non military targets. Imps were the bad guys. Palp rigged the election anyway, so he wasn't even 'rightly elected'.

1. That's no worse than the Republic's allowing genocide by the greedy banks and other private interests, if the brave pilots of Naboo hadn't destroyed the Trade Federation's command ship all the gunman's would have been killed while the republic sat on its hands. At least the empire would have sent a destroyer to pacify the region.

2. We all know the rebels hijacked a deep core mining platform to blow up Alderaan and tried to smear the empire with rumours and hysterics about a 'Death Star'; why would HNN lie to us?

3. (I can't think of a way to address fantasy racism in a way that comes off as tongue-in-cheek and not actual racism, so we're dodging that one lol)

4. How can you rig a Senate vote? They were all right there verbally affirming their votes on the floor. If you didn't like the results, really you're to blame for not voting in the senatorial election.

In the new canon, the Empire isn't racist per se. I mean, Palpatine surrounded himself with alien advisors and assistants, and even promoted Thrawn to Grand Admiral.

The racism in the Empire is ingrained in the people, due to the Clone Wars, where many alien species aligned with the Confederacy, that spread devastation over many human worlds. After the war, many humans resented the alien species because the bad blood from the war, and imperial officers saw their opportunity to deliver payback to them.

It seems more a case of racists within the Empire, than the Empire being a racist regime by foundational values.
I honestly can't see Palpatine or Vader giving a **** about the species of their pawns.

I don't see them being racist too, but exploiting and encouraging racism to enforce the empire domination over the galaxy is totally a thing I expect Palpatine to do.

^^^^that

And when your policy includes it as a tool, your functionally acting on racist ideology. AKA, institutional racism.

1- By destroying Alderaan, Tarkin wanted to stop from happening another bloody civil war that would consume the galaxy.

2- There was enslavement before and after the Empire - we are not to blame on this one.

3- All because of terrorists.

4- Palp did noting wrong.

And that class, is how the United States collapsed in the early to mid 21st century. With hero worship of villains in their vast fictional entertainment medias desensitizing them to their own self destruction of morality.

A future teacher, probably.

Wow. Can we not just enjoy an amazing animated Star Wars featurette without getting triggered?

It's not triggered, it's hysterical ๐Ÿ˜œ we're all just chilling dude, relax

Fair enough, my apologies. I've just come from the comments section on the YouTube video itself, which decidedly WAS triggered.

Reminded me of the rage over JoJo Rabbit.

Dead pan delivery is key to an unironic and fatalistic comedy. It's supposed to read like a highly emotional reactionary statement based on truth but only in stark contrast to its comedic stylization of presentation. That I pulled it off so successfully is quite bitter sweet pleasing really.
