Discussion:

Works equally well regardless of whether you’re player 1 or 2.

Personally I feel SSD excels as player 1.

The build is especiallygood versus Squadron heavy builds and MSU lists.

It’s extremely fun getting shot by a TRC CR90 only to Brunson the double hit, brace and finally shield tech the last dame and thus reduce 4 damage to 0. With Reeva demesne to flip a defense token and repair crew to pick up stray damage, this build can truly take a beating.

It cannot take down other SSDs or Starhawks. The times i’ve faced a starhawk i’ve simply flown passed, not engaged it, and mopped up everything else on the board.

It only has 2 squads, but these are exactly the sqauds you need. I’ve tried IG88B, but with counter 2, i’m getting more mileage from the IG88. Though it is really cool when you do manage to get the B variants ability. Purpose of the two squads is to hang back and wait for the enemy squads to enter blue range of you SSD flak. At that point IG88 engages and ties down as many as possible. Mauler mithel follows suit and engages as many as possible to deal the damage bonus. Mauler attacks a different target than IG88; because the point isn’t to destroy anyone, but to engage and weaken as many squads a possible so the SSD can mop up. This is working so well that i’ve actually had my squads survive engagements against 6 enemy squads in 2 out of 6 games. They never survive against Sloan though.

I would like to see greater damage projection, but the math doesn’t really change. Regardless of what i do, I don’t seem to find a way to beat the starhawk or another SSD.

Any suggestions that would take this build a step further?

An SSD that can beat a Starhawk? @Ginkapo

Command prototype is not a good ship.

That build might work against a Starhawk if that was all you were facing, but I don` t see that list beating any of the last 12 lists i` ve faced.

No gunnery team?

You have a list that gets beaten by ECM. You'll never kill starhawks without a major rethink. Simply throwing more dice does not make a ship better

The point is not to specifically beat a Starhawk. If i build a list to do that, I won’t be able to beat any other list...

I can beat starhawk lists on points and ofr now, that will have to be enough.

What I’m looking for is input that will make my list better, OVERALL.

That command prototype build makes no sense, because you don’t know what list you’re going to meet.

I never know if the next game is going to be against a Starhawk or an imperial Sloan list or some rebel msu with zero or massive amount of squads.

How do i push this list further, without sacrificing too much of what it’s already good at...

That is what I would like input on. This is a competitive list, not a single use, theorycrafting, how do I beat one specific ship kind of list.

I have been on the receiving end of a Boom Boom Shake The Room Anihilator SSD-AP list.

Differences - This opponent took Piet, QTC&LTC and a second Gozanti (coms net) in place of your token fighters. Krennic also made his long range fire a little more nasty.

I lost a Quasar & BCC Gozanti in the first activation of turn 2 which was a shock to loose a fresh Quasar in one volley at long range. My Demolisher died turn 4 (2 turns of SSD shooting out the rear arc) but my final unit (the flagship Quasar) orbited at long range and got into the safer flank-rear arcs. As you can imagine with double quasar I had 7 TIE-Bs with some escorting combat air patrol and intel. I was careful of the massed flak and kept the squadrons attacking from 3 different hull zones. There are areas for example in the front left-arc where you can still attack the front shield but not get hit by front flak. By splitting his flak into three you can reduce the flak (or stop him shooting at ships). Also turn 2 say, move squads & bomb the SSD then turn 3 Bomb & move away behind obstacles then turn 4 move back in and bomb. By repeating this we eventually killed the SSD and only lost the 2 TIE Interceptors and one jumpmaster to flak and counter (1) & PDR.

Your token fighter force I think is a great idea, helping to tip the balance in the damage to squadrons. In my battle I had escorting anti fighter specialists who could have swept them away but by keeping back until the enemy attacks your SSD they can hurry up the accumulation of hull damage on bombers before they die.

So @Baudolino you say this list can deal with squadron heavy and MSU fleets. Massed TRC90 fleets may be a problem. Rieekan Hammerhead swarms could also be fun to try especially with Charm Syndulla giving Anihilator 4 squadron or 4 Navigate commands. But as you say these are maybe gimmicky fleets tailored you destroying an SSD but not for general tournament use.

As @Ginkapo says the one area you will have problems is ECM on large ships. This is quite common so can't be dismissed as a gimmick or list tailoring. Double Cymoon lists you can deal with, Double ECM ISD-II will be a disaster. A Kuat or MC75 with some Ordnance and ECM could pin you in place, double arcing you and taking the very impressive 10 damage you generate and bracing it down to 5 then repair 2 shields a turn.

I think the easy solution to this is an Intel Officer . Use it on the ECM protected brace token and then in subsequent turns you can blow them away more easily. Intel officer will also help against enemy double brace ships like the Liberty, SSD and Agate Starhawks. Get one accuracy on a brace then intel officer the other one. Intel officer can also be used to get the HIE crit if the enemy have Dam Con Officer, he should only be able to contain once.

To squeeze in Intel officer I would ditch the Expert Shield tech as it sort of clashes with Reeva. You need a shield there to benefit from Reeva so probably want to full redirect from the front to the front-left to keep some front shield there for next turn. To find the extra points IG88 could be dropped for Cienna Ree. She is about as survivable as IG88 with the extra brace and permanently obscured. She keeps the same speed and a slight increase in firepower with swarm. Not being Rogue isn't too bad if the Gozanti banks a repair token turn 1 to fuel the repair crews turn 2 while the flotilla uses a squadron dial to throw Cienna & Mauler into the action.

This has been my favorite build so far with the SSD
