4x4xForce...

By NaKoaLani, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So... I4 with 4 ships to me seems like a good goal. I5s x 4 start creeping into tie-figher land for an imperial player. The cherry on top is force. Agility (which can super fail) but behind 2x force tokens each feels a lot like 4x jedi for the republic player. The issue (just like jedi) is that Tie v1 hits like a wet noodle most times so secondary munitions are very helpful, think I3 inq, fcs, concussion. (Does anyone else miss 1.0 FCS? "After you perform an attack, you may acquire a target lock"... BONKERS and no, no I don't. Anyways. I'm continuing to tweak but:

Fifth Brother (42)
Instinctive Aim (1)
Homing Missiles (5)

Seventh Sister (43)
Instinctive Aim (1)
Concussion Missiles (6)

Grand Inquisitor (52)
Brilliant Evasion (3)

Lieutenant Kestal (30)
Barrage Rockets (8)

Total: 191

Okay grand inq is I5 but force am I right? So each of them can hit with 3-4 dice at range 3. Kestal is objectively TERRIBLE but is the cheapest I4 in the game. Seyn + marksman is great as well. So my thoughts: Great dials, great green dice backed up with passive mods, hits at range3 double mod if needed, I4 and up, deepish bid, semi passive sensors with instinctive aim but can still pull an evade action to tank big shots. Let me know your thoughts.

both 7th and 5th doesn't like instincrive aim.

they both need their two forces to trigger their abilities

i would suggest you fcs on 7th and passive sensors on 5th instead

then take lock when you have not being shot..... otherwise allways evade

Cheapest i4 in the game is Bossk z/Lando ec, at a point less than Kestal. There's a whole lot of 30 point i4s though, including 3 Empire TIE/ln pilots.

Honestly not sure what I'd replace Kestal with for anti-Nantex tech... If you're going with Ace theme you can have a Sabre Squadron Ace with Predator for the same cost.

Otherwise, maybe something with bombs? Deathfire + protons at 37, or bigger investment and a cutlass with seismics and traj sim for 44.

5th Brother does not want to use Instinctive Aim. The whole purpose of Homing Missiles on him, is that you can push two damage through without the need to roll any dice. If you use Instinctive Aim, it just negates the whole build. If you are set on the Inquisitors, then I would do this instead.

  • Grand Inquisitor: Proton Rockets
  • Seventh Sister: Proton Rockets
  • Fifth Brother: Homing Missiles
  • Major Vynder: Autoblasters, Advanced SLAM, XG-1 Config

You get three ships that are extremely dodgy, each can throw three Agility Dice, each is hard to pin down with their amazing mobility. Fifth Brother is the one to shoot last and hopefully approaching from a side he can take a Lock without risk to his health. Sister and Grand Inquisitor should be fine just zooming around with a Roll/Boost > Red Focus. Makes aiming the Bullseye for Rockets easier.

Alternatively, I would strip Proton Rockets from Grand Inquisitor to make better use of his pilot ability. Then I would slap Major with Marksmanship and give Fifth Brother Passive Sensors or Fire-Control System, whichever you prefer.

Another take with Lieutenant Kestal I would consider is something like this.

  • Seventh Sister: Proton Rockets
  • Fifth Brother: Homing Missiles, Passive Sensors
  • Lieutenant Kestal: Barrage Rockets
  • Major Vermail: Emperor Palpatine

This way Kestal has a Force Charge to use on his attack and a Focus Token to use on his Pilot ability. Vermail can shoot third or last to trigger his own ability as well. Although I think Kestal will truly start to shine once the Ion Limiter Override is released. Giving him access to a Roll after he moves and then focusing will be great. I admit the Strain/Ion risk is annoying, but... Crits give you Ion, so you should be mostly safe. And the ability to aim Bullseye with a Focus and Barrage Rockets is massive. I don't expect it to cost anything more than 4 points truth be told, although it might be dependent on the base size as well.

My version of "4x Init 4 Imps with Force" is the following:

- Grand Inquisitor (Proton Rockets)
- Seventh Sister (Proton Rockets)
- Fifth Brother (Proton Rockets)
- Turr Phennir
197 points

It performed really well so far (3-4 games).
