LAATs how many should be gotten

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

Five deltas I have, knights of the round table

Two Naboos, yet two not be enough

Four Arcs, but by and by, no reason for four Arcs in a list there is

Four Torrents to fill the skies

Two Ys because there is no why

Thus the question remains...

three or four, for a squadron of LAATs is wise?

Better to wait for the points before you commit to that many of them I would say

I don’t know about others, but I usually buy 2 of every ship except support ships. The LAAT certainly feels like a support ship so one seems like the way to go unless the points and/or upgrade slots say otherwise.

I think 1 is all you need. Also you're right, you should get a 3rd naboo

Case for 1 LAAT: The LAAT is a great support ship for your ships with front arcs, less so for other (naked) LAATS. Furthermore the majority of included cards are unique jedis anyways.

Case for 2 LAATs: You can at maximum spend 2 charges per LAAT per round to buff attacks, with two LAATs you can buff 4 ships/attacks, and 2 ships reliably every round. Plus do we know if it has a torpedo/missile slot and how many? Possibly there is a case for two LAATs with cluster missiles to get mods for all 4 missile shoots, and with points to spare for with Yoda crew to support a top Jedi. Also, you need at least two Dead Eye Shoots, and two Supressive Gunners for your other non-republic lists.

Case for 3 LAATs: points start factoring in here.... it would appear that the LAAT would benefit from having both Clone gunners and Jedi crew to really buff the squad, plus perhaps missiles, so they seem to be more loaded to bear than e.g. the Y-wing. However, once we know the cost there might be a case for a triple LAAT list...

Case for 4 LAATs: Assuming they are in the Arc-price range, one would fly them lean and with few upgrades, might be alot of fun but doubt it will rival the 4 Auzitucks as they have 3 red dice primary, so not really a top tier list.

Case for 5 LAATs: Unlikely there is squad-points enough.

Case for 6 LAATs: You need 6 Dead Eye Shoots for your 6 Nantex list.

In summary: I am preordering 2 LAAT/i Gunships.

The LAAT should have two missile slots, if the first preview article is correct and it comes with the new Missile Pods.

I'm leaning towards one LAAT, personally.

I’m sticking with one of it and the Xi for now to see how it feels on a list. May get a second one, but I imagine those crew/gunner slots and Jedi crew are going to be pricey.

I don't feel like dropping another $100 on X-Wing right now, but I'd be tempted to go from 1 to 6 Y-Wings.

Anyhow... 1 LAAT/i. I'm in too much of a rush to think of a verse. Maybe 2... I could almost see 2 LAAT with 4 Torrents or 4 V-Wings.

I strongly suspect that 3 or 4 LAAT, even if they're legal, will be horrendously bad lists. 3 just isn't enough stats. I suspect 4 won't be able to get Barrage Rockets, and going 4 Missile LAAT lock-based missiles seems like a total poodoo show.

Definitely in the one LAAT club over here. It's a sorely needed support ship but I can't see justifying two in a list short of barrage rocket fun times and only if the price is right. That said I'm freaking excited to start list building and flying that one ship.

Anakin, Broadside, and Odd Ball/torps or Matchstick/VTG. So. Much. Fun.

I’m getting just one LAAT and one Xi. I think it’s going to make more sense as a support ship, and if I need more big things I’ll pick up the ARCs.

I will get a pair and a pair of the new Separatist ship. At some point I always like to try two in a list. I also wanted free shipping and I don't pretend I will not end up with two of things any longer. More $$$ upfront but save in the long run between the free shipping and online discount since the FLGS will not order. They are becoming more just a comics shop it seems.

Despite the fun comic I posted (I'm an amateur guitarist/vocalist and enabling new guitar purchases is sort of a moral imperative in that crowd), I'm still building up my initial buy-in for this game. I'll be just fine waiting on this New Wave until well after the ins and outs have been wrangled here. I have enough after-market used models (I bought several Conversion Kits so already have the cardboard on hand) on the way to annoy my love, light, and life right now as it is. :D

I'll be getting two LAATs to start; I have a few list I want to try and the model is great anyway, two LAATs and two HMP Droid Gunships

Probably one laat to start and place it into the sinker swarm if it fits

Just one.

I ordered two but one of those was a support your LFGS purchase. I will experiment with 2 but I think one is enough.

In an effort to scale back my superfluous X-Wing purchasing habits I will only be getting one.

Well, the more I think about it, there's a bit of latitude in the estimates.

I can't imagine more than two being a good idea, and even that is pushing it.

The LAAT has internal anti-synergy in a lot of ways. It has a re-roll effect that affects only non-turret guns, while the LAAT has a turret. While it can also use missiles, those tend to require target locks (such as missile pods) which already give you a re-roll effect. While you could use an allied LAAT's effect to help avoid spending the lock to maintain fire (this is a BIG advantage of homing missiles, after all!), you are very unlikely to want to do this often enough to dedicate a ship plus a likely moderately expensive missile upgrade to get the effect of two double modded 3 dice attacks (usually, it can obviously go up to 4) on a limited manuverability ship, especially when the ship is almost certainly going to be priced assuming your using it to help other ships like Jedi Starfighters, who absolutely crave target lock style effects.

As such, I doubt it will fill a 'U-wing' style niche where it can roll both as a support ship and a brawler. It might, but it seems unlikely, with how much power is baked into the support effect, I would imagine if you ever had the inclination to run more than 2 (so they could affect each-other) you would just replace them with ARCs instead. It is hard to imagine a price that doesn't make them a completely ridiculous support piece that would break other lists way more than a hypothetical 3 LAAT list.

I intend to purchase as many as will be crammed in a list, even an Epic one. IMMA BE CLONE DUDES WITH BAD (L)ATTITUDES! 😎

Well, when I get reemployed anyway. Furloughed soon. They're going to suck puuduu, for whatever dumb idea FFG had to limit their sales of a ship oft seen swarming the field, but flug it. I don't care if I go spLAAT on the walls every once in awhile. I don't have anyone to fLAATter. Do those puns fall too fLAAT? There was quite a pLAATter of them there. Don't want to risk the greatness of a pun becoming a pLAAT/itude.

sure but what looks good? One LAAT? Nah, that's chump level.

I also highly think you'll likely never want 4 in a squad. So 3 is probably right for a nice squadron look. If I want to drop the bass on the geonosians then I can do that.

4 arcs really isn't a great list. but 3 arcs + something else. absolutely. Now, I'm pretty sure 3 LAATs + thing wouldn't be as good, but sure worth the fun.

I just throw Ric or Padme or someone in the N1s with torpedoes.

Also Padme + 2 handmaidens. That feels right. One handmaiden isn't right. We have two hands.
