Are "older" expansions still being produced?

By Askara, in Star Wars: Legion

I'm bringing the question here because I honestly don't know where else to ask. I bought into the game shortly after it came out and early last year during Celebration got copies of all the Imperial expansions that were available at the time. I didn't have anyone to play against, so I was mostly interested in the painting/scenario building aspect of it - these are truly gorgeous minis -. However, I recently convinced several friends to get into the game, and they've become CIS/Republic players. Now that I'm trying to build a list to play against them, I find that buying a single box of each expansion was not enough and really need to shore up my troops to keep up with the new guys.

However, Snowtroopers, Death Troopers and Shore Troopers are all sold out and I can't find them anywhere, my FLGS tells me that they can't get them for me, and I'm left wondering if these units will ever come back in stock. Is this a temporary shortage, or are the expansions only available for as long as the initial stock last?

Thanks!

Covid really messed everything up yo...

Stuff isnt in stock because everyone bought it up when everything froze. Yeah, I mean they are kinda on track with things now, but not really. ARCs didn't even ship on time and in the normal numbers. Also when they re-keyed everything to be on sprues with hard plastic, doubtful they are going to continue to make the older expansions that were the soft plastic. Your best bet is to either buy a 3D printer, buy off Ebay, or hold your breath for them to re-release the old expansions in hard plastic.

They'll be back in stock. It may take some time though.

Fantasy Flight Games has notoriously bad restocking policies and Covid certainly didn't make it better.

Nothing has been discontinued. Supply is awful at the moment though, a mix of covid and how the company operates. The place I buy from online got re-stocks of almost everything over the summer, but soon sold out again.

I had the same experience, so it sure seems like the older expansions are still produced

So I know it's not the same as supporting your local game store, but you can find some stuff on places like Miniature Market, Amazon, and local game stores selling inventory online.

For example, Amazon has Snow Troopers available right now via Prime, so fast/free shipping if you have Prime.

A lot of my armies came from Amazon and Miniature Market.

An example of a local shop selling inventory online is Sci Fi City. Their prices are great, and I've gotten a few things from them as well. Here's their Snowtroopers listing:

They don't have Shoretroopers, Death Troopers, or Snowtroopers in stock, but I've also ordered a few things from here, including a Captain Rex and a Dooku when everyone told me they were near impossible to find.

Thank you, everyone, for your replies.

It's a relief to know that the game is still being produced. I know that this year has thrown all plans askew, so I'm not going to criticize FFG for not being prepared for something that no one could have foreseen. While I wait for Death Troopers to be back in stock I'm thankful to the person who pointed out that Snows were still available in Amazon. Those seem to be good short-range combatants. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with clone troopers with those.

My friends are... quite the competitive, WAAC types, so I'm used to having my narrative, fluffy armies curbstomped in pretty much every game we play, from X-Wing to 40k. I'm just hoping to recreate the garrison at Scariff as a fun list to play.

For almost every game I have from FF it's been the same story: stuff is sometimes difficult to find during release if you didn't preorder, becomes readily available a few months later, sells out a few months after that and becomes impossible to find for even longer, then gets reprinted after everyone has stopped caring and has moved on to something else. It's super frustrating which is why I normally opt to just preorder my stuff and I've generally had really good luck with that until now. Arctroopers and some of my Arkham Horror LCG decks released and saw very limited numbers reaching stores so now I'm waiting for a second wave to (hopefully) arrive next Feb 2021.

i dont think its because of covid really

didnt FFG drop their distributor so they could ship directly to gamestores themselves?

and they fail at distribution because apparently theyre not doing a good job of making sure all retailers can obtain the products

I know Alliance and Asmodee have had some squabbles over products as well according to some of the reps. That can't help anything

According to my local game store, asmodee has cut ties with alliance all together. That was in the works since last year and was finalized over the summer.

Yes, I know our FLGS has been bitten by this as their old distributor was then withholding product dubiously and 8 believe it all ended up being re-ordered.

I believe Clan Wren/Inferno is the first release for the new distribution. Unfortunately I’ve heard stock is low on some of that product (apparently plenty of Clan Wren).

I can’t help but to feel like someone at FFG or Asmodee is just bad with spreadsheets And then things like the Dewbacle happen.

That’s actually the shop my buddy and I use to play weekly at pre covid. Dragons lair in CT. Not too many FLGS have an online shop. I’m sure they will eventually do a restock down the road.

Okay I know over the past few years that FFG has had issues with shipping.

First they had a major issue with a port strike and boats were sitting that couldn't dock.

Then an Asian shipping company went bust and the ship carrying stuff got impounded at port.

You'd think that would be the end of bad luck, after this a container fell off the boat, (happens more often than you think, shipping has had issues with floating containers for a long time, to the point it's more dangerous than icebergs).

More recently, since the release of clone wars, and just to clarify, this one I have no other source than rumour, it had been said FFG just wasn't ready for the demand the clone wars stuff has drummed up. If this is true, given the lead times on the product then it would take a bit of steering to get it back on track since it takes so long for an order to get produced, even without the above issues.

Hard to grow a game like this.

I figure everything is at minimum until tournaments come back in full.

Death and Shore Troopers are in stock right now on the FFG website. Act fast...

One of the complications with the split with Alliance for Asmodee was that Alliance was shut down for most of this year. Since Alliance was shut down, the contract could not be ended as it required action from both parties.
