Trick Shot Costing

By Npmartian, in X-Wing

I've been playing around with list building a bit more over the last few days in order to scratch my X-Wing itch that hasn't been satisfied in a while. I kept wanting to include this card on Han, Wedge, etc. but even if it's a good choice for the pilot, 4 points just feels bad for a sometimes-on effect that's not hugely impactful outside of good pilot synergy like Han or Wedge. I personally think 3 or maybe even 2 points would be a good cost: that puts it as a reasonable replacement to Crack and Predator for some ships and creates almost a Holy Trinity of good cheap talents.

I think 2 is too cheap. It adds about the same amount of damage as Predator, but is easier for a lot of ships to trigger.

I'd accept variable pricing. 2 points on any single-arc ships, but 3 points on anything with other than a single front V arc. Last time it was 2 points on turrets, folks hated it and the nerf was good.

Could vary the cost based on ship size. 4 at large, 2 on small. It doesn't guarantee its single arc of course, but it also helps keep the price high on most of the things that got it to 4 in the first place. Trick shot used to see play on a lot of ships, but far and away the ones that it was 'glued too' were larges, and post-nerf its basically only seeing play on larges that explicitly interact with it. So assuming that smalls and mediums lack synergy it could probably afford to be cheaper on them, while still kept at its 'fair on Han Solo' cost of 4 on larges.

It would also help make the talent slot a 'duh' slot to fill, which I think would be good, as long as it isn't always a specific talent (looking at you, crack shot). 1-2 cost talents are a great place to introduce one last drop of customization (Down to if you even take the obviously super efficient talent as opposed to say... a little torp or a pilot upgrade), help make factions feel different (by making super cheap faction talents), introduce tech options (ex: Right now the meta could use a lot of good 'gain value on miss' talents to help combat the hyper-defensive meta), and make games less efficiency focused (as most of the stuff that is really good right now can be boiled down to getting a ton of hyper-efficient easy to trigger mods to make ships resist a ridiculous amount of damage, and deal it in turn).

I almost always choose trickshot, Its priced just right I think. Not all epts absolutely needs to have an even effect on all ships, but I have a Han list with falcon title and trickshot, its not uncommon to get 4/5 even 6 red dice of with that combo.

It's powerful but tricky to trigger. (see what I did there?)

4 is a bit much as it's not that reliable, or constant. 2 as BitterFig mentioned is too cheap. I'm okay with it at 4 begrudgingly or 3 and call it a day. Either is ultimately fine.
