Punisher + 3 Int

By Infinite_Maelstrom, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi, I used to play a lot during 1st ed (TIE/d + TIE/x7 defenders were my go-to ships). I don't have much time to play now, but recently I've been trying to theorycraft some 2ed squads. Defenders have gone up in points since 1ed, so it looks like I'm going to need to learn how to arc-dodge as well as re-learn everything else if I want to fly again.

Anyway, what do people think of this:

3x
Saber Squadron Ace (36)
Predator (2)
Afterburners (6)

Ship total: 44 Half Points: 22 Threshold: 2

"Deathrain" (43)
Trajectory Simulator (6)
Proton Torpedoes (13)
Ion Bombs (5)

Ship total: 67 Half Points: 34 Threshold: 5

Total: 199

Deathrain seems to be able to approach PTL levels of action economy, albeit on a pretty meh chassis. Proton Torps are intended to be his primary weapon, with ion bombs acting as an enabler for his actions and to keep enemies where he wants them. The interceptors are meant to be scary enough to keep the enemy busy for long enough to let DR do some damage. I understand it's a bit risky having non PS9 I6 arc dodgers, but it is the highest Generic & has same PS as DR. However, I was wondering whether I ought to replace the Afterburners and Preadators with Outmanoeuvers, and use the extra points to deck out Deathrain a little - though keeping him lite seems to be wise. (Maybe a skilled bombadier could work? I'm not too sure.) Perhaps I could save points by using a different missile/torp on DR, but the 4 dice, (hopefully frequently double modded 😎 ) were too tempting.

What do you think? Does it have promise? How could it be improved?

Instead of exporting from YASB use the print option in the top right next to the squad building. It will give you the text version of the list. It will make it much easier for people to read the list and give feedback.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

I'll update my original post. 🙂

That’s a difficult one, I like the addition of ion bombs, but I would try and fit in proton bombs too. Give you an extra option for damage and area denial.
Predator may be hard to get off, could use the points for proton bombs and delayed fuses.

hi i don't like afterburnes on sabers.... yes it open their dial and for 2 times avoids stress for doubble reposition or make them do 3 actions per activation (with speed 3 or more manouver) but is so expensive... i would play this list like this:

Soontir Fel (54) Predator (2) Ship total: 56 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 2

Saber Squadron Ace (36) Predator (2) Ship total: 38 Half Points: 19 Threshold: 2

Saber Squadron Ace (36) Predator (2) Ship total: 38 Half Points: 19 Threshold: 2

"Deathrain" (43) Trajectory Simulator (6) Diamond-Boron Missiles (6) Skilled Bombardier (2) Seismic Charges (3) Proton Bombs (5) Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 5

Total: 197

remove predator from the 2 sabers if you want more bid

Yes, I considered swappping the control to ordnance, ie Ion Missiles or Ion Torpedos, with Proton Bombs, but just before I posted originally I decided that it would be better to keep the damage dealing in the same manner throughout the squad. I though this since the punisher can move slow enough (in 1st ed it could at least - I don't really know how it flies with a slightly larger base) - that ships it ion bombed might still be in a position to be shot at if the bombs were launched with Trajectory Simulator. Ideally I would use Connor nets, as I had great sucess with them in 1ed, but the lack of a reload makes it a hard choice. Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll keep this in mind.

Hmm. Soontir would definitly be an easier pilot in the interceptor with that I6. I do like the addition of another definite threat. Deathrain, however - from my 1st ed experience of TIE punishers - looks a little bit too fat for my comfort . (edit) Actually, your Deathrain is cheaper than the one I proposed. Perhaps I should use less expensive ordnance - are proton torpedoes really worth 13 points? (end edit) I would need to actually fly it to see how it works. But it might be some time before I get an opportunity to do so. What is your opinion on using outmanoeuver vs predator though, if there were enough points?

Also, what does "threshold" mean?

Threshold is damage required to get half points.

It’s why people take hull upgrade on Boba etc, moves his threshold up from 5 to 6. Can make all the difference.

on soontir i usually prefere predator or daredevil because they are a lot cheaper than outmanouver.

but outmanouver is a good choice too probably easier to trigger than predator and daredevil.

in the list i have posted i would not use outmanouver because it would eat all your bid (that is very important for interceptors)
