Hi, I used to play a lot during 1st ed (TIE/d + TIE/x7 defenders were my go-to ships). I don't have much time to play now, but recently I've been trying to theorycraft some 2ed squads. Defenders have gone up in points since 1ed, so it looks like I'm going to need to learn how to arc-dodge as well as re-learn everything else if I want to fly again.
Anyway, what do people think of this:
3x
Saber Squadron Ace (36)
Predator (2)
Afterburners (6)
Ship total: 44 Half Points: 22 Threshold: 2
"Deathrain" (43)
Trajectory Simulator (6)
Proton Torpedoes (13)
Ion Bombs (5)
Ship total: 67 Half Points: 34 Threshold: 5
Total: 199
Deathrain seems to be able to approach PTL levels of action economy, albeit on a pretty meh chassis. Proton Torps are intended to be his primary weapon, with ion bombs acting as an enabler for his actions and to keep enemies where he wants them. The interceptors are meant to be scary enough to keep the enemy busy for long enough to let DR do some damage. I understand it's a bit risky having non
PS9
I6 arc dodgers, but it is the highest Generic & has same PS as DR. However, I was wondering whether I ought to replace the Afterburners and Preadators with Outmanoeuvers, and use the extra points to deck out Deathrain a little - though keeping him lite seems to be wise. (Maybe a skilled bombadier could work? I'm not too sure.) Perhaps I could save points by using a different missile/torp on DR, but the 4 dice, (hopefully frequently double modded

) were too tempting.
What do you think? Does it have promise? How could it be improved?
