What would your build be if your life depended on it?

By Garrett17, in Star Wars: Armada

Let's say some magical creature challenged you to a match and your life hung in the balance.

What would your rebel build be?

What would your Imperial build be?

Objectives optional

What would you ultimately fall back on because in your opinion it seems more effective than anything else?

For me the base would be:

Rebel:

Home One (Defiance) - Agate, XI7s, Advanced Projectors, Leading Shots, Strategic Advisor

1 flotilla with Phylon Q7s and Slicers (this is basically anti-Demo insurance)

1 flotilla with BCC and boosted comms

1 CRV a wtih TRCs

1 hammer head with external racks

Tycho, Shara and either 6 y-wings or three scurrgs

Imperial (i don't play this side very often so I'm drawing on a lot less experience)

SSD command prototype, JJ, DCO, Gunnery Team

Demolisher (ord exp, APT)

Marek, Jendon, Morna,

If we were playing an older version of the rules, then Ramstrosity. I hate the list, but back in the day it was basically unbeatable.

For those who don't know, Ramstrosity was old Reeikan on a flotilla with as many CR90b's with engine techs as you could fit into the list. I can't remember if they used reinforced blast doors or not. Basically they flew in, rammed you to death before you could do anywhere near enough damage to them through shooting. And because of Reeikan it was very hard to escape it as they'd park an indestructible ship or two in front of you.

There were a few lists that could survive it but had to use very unconventional tactics and very rarely pulled off an actual victory against it.

That's tricky, because it's not 100% about the most effective list

So much of armada is in the execution, and I'd feel more swayed towards a fleet that I know how play effectively rather than an overtly powerful fleet that I don't have much experience with.

To that end I'd most likely pick up my Onager/Isd2 list

Commence primary ignition (30/387/400)

Imperial II-class Star Destroyer (120 + 69: 189)
· Darth Vader (36)
· Strategic Adviser (4)
· Gunnery Team (7)
· Electronic Countermeasures (7)
· Quad Battery Turrets (5)
· Chimaera (4)
· Intensify Firepower! (6)

Onager-class Star Destroyer (110 + 31: 141)
· Intel Officer (7)
· Gunnery Chief Varnillian (6)
· H9 Turbolasers (8)
· Orbital Bombardment Particle Cannons (5)

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 + 4: 27)

Ciena Ree (17)
Valen Rudor (13)

If forced to play rebels I'd be SoL I think; since I don't really have any experience with them. Some kind of ackbar list would be the order of the day there i think

I would pick a list that I know have a very good chance to claim VP and deny them for the opponent. The goal here is to not lose so it does not matter how many point you score.

This happens to be how we play most of the time anyway so not that much would change for me in that regard. I never play tournament games so I don't care by how many points that I win, the goal is beating the opposition... since we play like that we usually have a rule that you must win by a margin more than 20% or the game is a draw. I find that way to play more satisfactory as many games end up a draw and the flow of games tend to feel more realistic in that you don't see us take unnecessary risks unless you see you can gain heavily form them. You rather accept a draw rather than risk a loss.

It is also why I prefer campaign games rather than one off games as well.

A typcial fleet that tend to be well rounded is 4-5 ships with both good firepower and some support, 80-130p in squadrons is needed for a well rounded fleet and at least one squadron with the Strategic keyword. After this I don't think it matters all that much what you bring as it will be your skill how to use it that matters the most.

Admittedly I haven't played since the Onager and the Starhawk came out. That said, I'd fall back to my old faithful list. Never been a fan of squadrons, always been a fan of triangles.

ISD-II - Motti, Brunson, Gunnery Team, ECM, Leading Shots, XI7

ISD-II - SA, Gunnery Team, ECM, Leading Shots, XI7

Gozanti - Slicer Tools

Gozanti - Comms Net

Mauler Mithel

1 x TIE Fighter

I've been playing this list with only slight tweaks (like adding in SA and Brunson as they came out) for a few years and it's served me incredibly well. Biggest downside is finding a good Blue objective. I usually run: Most Wanted, Contested Outpost, Dangerous Territory.

If the creature was magical, it would probably be wise to figure out, what kind of tricks the creature can do.

Chance cube control (as Qui Gon did)? Well, you should probably avoid missions in which you need to roll dice to score points.

Pulling arms out of their socket when it loses? Well, you're screwed.

Force choking (for whatever reason) - you're ******.

I’d be playing a game I’m more confident that I can win nearly every match of than Armada.

Long time ago me and my blogger @BiggsIRL here,
We was hitchhikin' down a long and lonesome road.
All of a sudden, there shined a shiny Sloane list.
In the middle of the round.
And she said:
"Plaaaaaaaaaay the best list in the world, or I'll eat your soul." (cool guitar riff)
Well me and Biggs, we looked at each other,
And we each said. "Okay."
And we played the first thing that came to our heads,
Just so happened to be,
The Best List in the World, it was The Best List in the World.
Look upon my Y's and it's easy to see
One and one make two, two and one make three,
And a Liberty.
Once every hundred-thousand points or so,
When the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow
And the Pulse Overload....
Needless to say, the ISD was stunned.
Whip-crack went his frumpy tail,
And he got 10-1'ed.
He asked us: "(snort) Be you angels?"
And we said, "Nay. We just play jank."
Rock!
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh-ah-ah,
Ohhh, whoah, ah-whoah-oh!
This is not The Greatest List in the World, no.
This is just a tribute.
Couldn't remember The Greatest List in the World, no, no.
This is a tribute, oh, to The Greatest List in the World,
All right! It was The Greatest List in the World,
All right! It was the best muthaf***in' list; the greatest list in the world.
(Scat break)
And the peculiar thing is this my friends:
The list we played on that fateful night it didn't actually have
Any of these upgrades!
This is just a tribute! You gotta believe it!
And I wish you were there! Just a matter of opinion.
Ah, f***! Good God, God lovin',
So surprised to find you can't beat it.
All right! All right!

And squadrons. It's a classy list.

Yep. And with those objectives and 6 activations, the only thing worse than letting him go first is letting him go second.

It would be the list I am most comfortable playing and I know like the back of my hand. At this point in time it would be my Tarquitens list. Maybe not the best list but considering my life depends on it which would cause considerable stress this list would be the one I would be most likely to not make a mistake with.

And, if Tarkin gets points cut then all the better.

Base list is usually a Cymoon, 2 Arquitens with ET, and a Gozanti with a couple squads although I have a couple variants at this point.

I’d probably shoot for victory points. Five Vic-Is, Motti, and Contested Outpost? Station Assault? Hyperspace Migration? Speed 1 all around, nothing but engineering commands?

Had to think of other potential objectives!

Something something Demolisher.

This is kinda fun thinking about as a thought excercise. How badly can you game it if a 1-point MoV actually meant life or death? I know the best answer is probably something you know really well, but lets try in the other direction. How about a 98 point bid for 2nd, and try to avoid battle alltogether with really hard to kill ships. What would be the cheesiest cheese one could pull off?

I think that's a tough call, but in my local meta my tried and true was a list called "a bad case of the VTs" it involved an ISD a Quasar a gozzer, and a whole swarm of VT49s, it was very rare that the list was beaten.

I'd probably stick with that.
