Iam struggeling a bit with this:

so i have a question about this card. it says: " At the start of the Ship Phase , you may discard this card or spend a repair token . If you do, until the end of the round , before a friendly ship reveals a command , it may recover 1 shield ."

must i see this token as you cant use it for half of your engineering points(of the ship) because the card states its spend (with the ship you have equiped with). Or can i use the token for half of my engineering points (of the ship) i have it equipt with.

Could someone help me out?

To activated Shields to Maximum with an engineering token it must be used at the start of the ship phase. To use it for engineering points it is used when a ship activates. You do not get both benefits from a single token but activating Shields to Maximum with a token is optional. You can save it for when the ship activates to use as engineering.

Edit: Timing

The cost for fleet commands is paid at the start of the ship phase, before anything is activated.

You're trading the token's worth of engineering points for 1 shield on every ship you activate.

You can only benefit from the normal effect of a dial or token when you resolve it as a command in the appropriate timing window.

When you spend a command token token to trigger an upgrade card, you aren’t resolving a command (so for all the “spend a token” cards.)

In contrast, upgrade cards that show a little icon of a command only trigger when you‘re already resolving that command (like Engineering Team only works when you’re already repairing, and then you would get points for the token as well.)
