Portable Scanner and speculation

By drail14me, in Star Wars: Legion

The upcoming Portable Scanner upgrade looks to be a staple card for a Rebel Officer.

So far, the upgrade is only announced in the Republic Specialists pack coming in 1st QTR of next year. Seems like this card will come with a Rebel pack soon as well. So, wondering if one of the two unannounced Rebel expansions will have this card? If so, what expansion would this card logically come in?

Does the mandalorian set not have them?

If not, it will probably come in the next 2 unit boxes

It’s not in the Mandelorian set. They come with Ascension Cables......because Jump 2 wasn’t good enough. LOL

Since ascension cables don’t make a lot of sense for Mandalorians, it’s possible portable scanner will just be a parallel inclusion. But if I had to guess, I’d say it’s coming with Hera and Chopper, just for fun since it’s really unlikely (Unless Luke Eddy is really trying to throw us off by saying he’d like to work on Spectre squadron from Rebels in the future and get them in the game). Chopper would fit with Observation tokens too since he often went under cover.

Old Ben could be an interesting choice too. He certainly was defensively minded and the Offensive Stance (flip to Defensive???) that can only be on force users would fit that release as well. I could see him being a cheap operative force user meant to boost your other units, not be a melee threat like the others we’ve seen.

Assuming we are getting a force user as the unannounced character, perhaps Cal Kestis with BD-1. BD was always scanning stuff, right?

I am currently assuming the other thing will be a vehicle, and it doesn't seem like it would come with a vehicle, but I am basing that on almost nothing so...yeah.

Cal seems likely TBH.

han solo on tauntaun operative

didnt he use a portable scanner in ESB when he was looking for Luke on hoth

Ffg seems to want rebels to only use tauntauns anyway. so a han solo on tauntaun operative makes perfect sense to me.

Not sure about that , the recent online tournament (gencon replacement tournament) had barely any tauns at it , this was mentioned on the recent notorious scoundrels. The only rebel unit to make it for the end line had ATRT for supports.

Huh? barely any tauns? 2 of the top 8 lists had taun tauns...

Which is barely any compared to how they had been dominating nearly every list

thats not "barely any" they still had a very strong showing

tauntauns are still boss.

han solo on tauntaun operative with portable scanner is whats coming out :P

Rebels

25 total

20 R2

19 Cassian

7 Operative Skywalker

3 commander Skywalker

6 Jyn Erso

21 Rt

17 Tauns

Given that 2 or 3 tauns per list that's approx 7 (or less) out of 25 people playing tauns , while barely any is perhaps a bit of a stretch, they are hardly running rampant. Rebels had a win rate of 50% when compared with the other 3 factions with separatists at 56 and GAR at 58.

Given the amount of hate Tauns get they are now in the minority of rebel players and even at that rebels aren't unbalanced it appears that GAR and separatists are stealing the imperial thunder just now in their match ups

I still maintain that many people play whatever is new or newish, especially with these online tournaments because they don't even have to buy anything.

Hence Cassian being in 76% of the lists and the drop in tauntauns. That may be also why there were so many Arc trooper players and less Imperials (they didn't have as much new stuff revealed at this point)

How does every thread turn into tauntauns and Clone balls?

I actually to a lot with this theory, tauns don't synergise well with Cassian , but if Tauns were so superior you would have seen a lot more rebels, more of those rebel players would have brought them and finally there would have been more in the top 8. My own list was almost identical to the second place , although the last time I posted it was before K2 was announced and it had 3 ATRT.

Somehow (earlier in the thread) people think that a rebel officer is going to keep up with tauntauns and give them even more Dodge tokens. Now if tauntauns had access to Recon Intel, then there would be a riot.

I haven't had to play against that many ARCs and Clone balls, but is it really that easy to get that many standby tokens? I feel like certain turns, where they have 3 faceup tokens, yeah, its a problem and very disruptive, but before Amidala, it wasn't that easy right? or the army was just Clones troopers and nothing else, so activation control was pretty predictable.

Or is the real issue the ability for the Clone player to dictate the game and pace of play too much?

From what I can gather the key is P2's (and ARC's?) with overwatch being able to use standby tokens of cheap P1 units behind them in LOS cover. effectively you basically create a range 4 standby area from the unit with the standby token, but your unit with the actual standby token is protected from being shot at range to drop the standby token.

Padme and her ability paired with Overwatch P2's effectively allows her standby to trigger at R5 of her with a P2 unit in the right position.

So as long as you have Padme and some cheap P1's running around in the backfield taking standby tokens you get some far more powerful units to shoot multiple times per turn and well beyond what most consider a fair range for the standby effect. at least that's what I gather the clone ball does from all that I have read online about it.

@Mace Windu

Sounds like those that play that way want more snipers in the game not less.

Yeah we just need a Tauntaun corps unit and some Tauntaun special forces... Might be enough to lure @TauntaunScout back into the game!

I'm picturing a mechanized Tauntaun al la Mechagodzilla

rebels definitely need the tauntank to make up for the airspeeder being so awful

What about the landspeeder? Somehow when all the boys and girls climb on it costs more and disappears faster. It was supposed to be an improvement.
