Scum Salad

By underling, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Went with a bit of a scum salad tonight.

Guri w/Predator [66]

Kavil w/Dorsal turret, Contraband Cybernetics [47]

Fang Fighter [41]

Fang Fighter [41]

Total Build [195]

This build started off as a more expensive Guri and Kavil build, with Fenn tagging along at 69 points. I still think it has possibilities, but I usually tend toward larger number of ships.

So enter two Fangs for Fenn, with Fenn retiring. I'm hoping that Fangs are a reasonable sustitutue.

Yeah, decent chance the fangs are better.

I kinda wonder whether Fenn would be better than Guri. Instead, I guess I mean that I personally would have more fun with Fenn (66+5 bid = 71 = Fearless Fenn), but to each their own.

It looks like fun to me! I kinda sorta copied this idea (thanks for introducing me to Kavil!) but with Outmaneuver on Guri (which might be too spendy for what it does but I like how bouncy the StarVipers are so maybe overestimate my ability to get use out of it).

Kavil's 4 dice dorsal (at range 1) can be huge. He's there strictly to deal as much damage as he can before leaving the table.

I really like Outmaneuver on Guri, but in this build I used Predator to have a better bid.

I feel Guri moving after other 5s is better than Outmaneuver.

Solid rationale. I'd be interested in hearing how things pan out (with note-taking device in hand). I need to test it out on Fly Casual for my own edumacation.

Trading Guri for Fenn would certainly work. And probably be as good, and possibly even a little better.

It's simply a matter of personal preference for me.

The salad build actually started as more of an aces build:

Fenn w/Composure [69]

Guri w/Predator, Advanced Sensors [76]

Kavil w/Dorsal turret, Contraband Cybernetics, R4 Astromech [49]

Total Build [194]

I've always been more of a swarm player (or at the least a four ship minimum player), so I didn't trust myself running just three ships.

So I downgraded Guri and Kavil, and got rid of Fenn to add the two fangs.

PS: Composure is there on Fenn strictly as "insurance." He certainly doesn't need it, but if you ever fail a boost or barrel roll, at least you've got a focus.

So six of us played three rounds today, and the salad was pretty successful. I think I lost one ship over all three rounds, and Guri was reduced to half in one (different) round.

ROUND 1:

Opponent: GI, Saber x4

My opponent had the initiative, so his GI had to move before Kavil and Guri.

I didn't lose a ship, and didn't get to half health on anyone. Kavil had a couple of range 1 shots that were "effective."

Note: This is the game Guri *did* get to half health. The first time she was shot at I blanked on three evade dice. It was the only damage she took this game.

Both of our evade dice were crap, but my opponent's attack dice were *really* crap.

ROUND 2:

Opponent: Vader, Soontir, Onyx Defender

Initiative didn't matter, but I gave it to my opponent.

Soontir blanked on the first range 1 shot from Kavil's turret. 'Nuff said...

That left Vader and a half health defender, but there was just too much firepower to overcome.

ROUND 3:

Opponent: Saw (U-wing), Benthic (U-wing), Edrio (X-wing), Zealot (X-wing)

Kavil was finally blown off the table in this one, but I think he did manage to do more than 8 damage before he was.

Guri and the fangs then cleaned up.

Takeaway: Guri can really be a pain to deal with, especially when she's supported by two fangs and Kavil.

This is a really fun list to fly.
