selective detonation talent

By BlackburnUTG, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

just found, that this talent has different description in AoR Core Book and EotE Dangerous Covenants. Which one is correct?

AoR:

When using weapons with the Blast quality or explosive devices, the character may spend advanage to exclude one target that would normally be affected by the explosion. Multiple targets may be excluded in this manner, but the total number may not exceed his ranks in Selective Detonation. The character may also spend triumph to exclude multiple targets, as long as the total number of targets excluded does not exceed his ranks in Selective Detonation.

Dangerous Covenants:

When using any weapon with the Blast quality or explosive device, the character may spend advantage or triumph to exclude one target that would normally be affected by the explosion. Multiple targets may be excluded in this manner, but the total number may not exceed his ranks in Selective Detonation.

I'd go with AoR on that. The one with more information is generally the correct one.

These descriptions are functionally identical, if I'm reading them right.

One says: spend Advantage to do thing. You may also spend Triumph to do thing.

The other says: spend Advantage or Triumph to do thing.

Which is basically the same.

One specifies that the Triumph can be spent to exclude multiple targets up to ranks.

The other does not specify anything for the Triumph, lumping it in with the ability of Advantage to exclude a single target, multiple times up to ranks.

So with Selective Detonation 3, one would take 3 Triumphs to use all three ranks (assuming you had no Advantage) and the other would take 1 Triumph to use all three ranks.

Ok, I get you. And whilst I do agree with your interpretation, this very ambiguously written and not at all obvious that this is what they're inferring.

They really should have specified "A Triumph", to indicate that only a singular one was needed rather than just "Triumph", which is a little vague.

In the book, it shows up as a symbol. Again, they aren't the most clear as to whether it is singular or plural, but it's a picture not a word.
