Custom X-Wing Ships and stuff

By Kyle Ren, in X-Wing

hi, I made a custom ship! presenting the Zenaus 33 Umbaran Starfighter

Separatist-Sympathizer-Front-Face.png

the generic pilot card is shown above. here's the dial:

I already put it in Tabletop Similator, so if you have TTS, you can play around with it!

the link to the mod is here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2205228490

I also put some other fun stuff I've been working on in the mod :D

Edited by Kyle Ren

so I'm still thinking about what seem like fair legal lists for the Umbaran Fighter but here's my speculative costs and slots

Separatist Sympathizer 35 (mod missile)

Umbaran Ace 38 (talent mod missile)

Bor'is Yurev 38 (talent mod missile)

Oth'neel Marsh 43 (talent mod missile)

I assume that you made the card using strange eons? If so, how did you get the separatist background/little ship logo? I've been trying for a while now and id love to know how you did it!

@izagni has been working on some custom assets for strange eons and I borrowed some of their work on making cards for the other factions... I think it’s all pinned somewhere in the homebrew channel of the big discord server and in the custom card league discord as well

Feels expensive. Unless spending the charge, this is a Z-95 with a bullseye. Overall, I'd say this should be about Nantex prices, or marginally lower. Stats are pretty similar. 3 bullseye, 2 dice otherwise, 3 agility but often just 2, 4 hull.

I kind of feel it should instead penalize you FOR spending the charge, and have barrel roll linked into other actions, instead of the other way around.

More actions, but less defense as a drawback.

Might be a little strong, though.

TIE/hu seems mostly fine. The config I have two nitpicks with.

First, I wouldn't make Closed "gain a disarm token" unless you intend some sort of tricks with orange tokens. Seems cleaner to say "you cannot attack." I can't squint out the named pilot abilities.

Second, I guess I'm a little puzzled on the Open. Is it intended to be a "very small cost" with the deplete or not? Seems like the ship will clear it easily. If that's the intent, great.

Cost... hrm. 40 feels a tad high. Well, it is a Talent init 3... but 39 like a TIE/x1 doesn't seem inappropriate. Extra red die is harder to trigger, but the ship is a bit more robust. For the aces, I guess this is more maneuverable, but I'd hesitate to spend 7 more points on one of these than Maarek Stele in the /x1. 4 or 5 points more, maybe, so 49-50? Proton Torpedo Maarek would be nasty, tho... hrm...

Yeah it’s kinda weird right? It’s gonna take some playtesting to feel out a cost. I think the disarm token was mostly chosen for consistency with other similar ship abilities - Corran springs to mind right away. The deplete is indeed meant as a small cost. Doing a blue maneuver is kinda limiting, since they have no blue hard turns, but it’s still not a huge deal.

thanks so much for yall’s feedback. I really appreciate it.

We played a game with the Umbarans today and they are in fact very fun and seem fair at the current costs. It was a very enjoyable game for both sides.

I actually like this. It makes that ship almost the ultimate arc-dodger with the idea "Sure, you can spend a charge to arc dodge....but it means you're rolling one fewer dice" risk VS reward.
