8 pt Plasma Torp slapped to Wedge (with that assist for a full mod alpha) against a Wookie first engage (because they almost never reinforce first engage): 82 % of half pointing off the bat. Neutralize Result step =\= Deal Damage step, so the cancel crit first text is literally meaningless on 0 agi if no reinforce is present. So 1 pt investment in Marksmanship will certainly be the effect of Outmaneuver + OG Proton Torpedoes(ish).

And if they reinforce? Cool, you baited them into gimping their offense against your squad.

Not a squad, but a start. And a piece that is good against a lot of the field.

The first option we explored was 4 wookies and a filler ship exactly as discussed in this thread. That beef approach of just 5 ships and no mods has its merits, I'll grant that. There's lots of choices for the fifth ship too, but IMO I prefer to give the wookies abilities and mods, and settled on this list. Probably a disgusting casual list compared to the 5-ship options, but I like it, so hate me. Better than the modless walking carpet that bores everyone.

This is what I look for in a wookie list: versatility. Leia grants them some surprise and/or slow-roll rounds that they can put to exceptionally good use. 3PO can tank quite well especially if they leave him to late game trying to kill Saw & Leia (IMO Leia is the one to save for last or 2nd to last). K-2SO is able to grant a minor dice mod to a ship that can afford the stress (usually 3PO likes it most), and can Jam in a pinch. And Saw's action economy makes him quite terrifying.

With the extra help in positioning and dice mods, the ships are a little more free to reinforce as their action (particularly Saw and sometimes 3PO), or occasionally barrel roll.

IMO I don't like Magva in a list like this because the opponent has no incentive to attack Magva and grant you that free lock, unless you pair her with Saw crew or upgrade the pilot to Wullffwarro to sweeten the deal, which starts to load a lot onto one ship. 😕 I'll have to experiment.

In the one game I played against aces, my opponent lamented that it was very challenging to approach them because I could always have a decently modded arc guarding that direction, if not many. That's something I like about wookies, especially when they're flown loosely instead of sticking to the walking carpet formation.

My setup is to move in pairs of two, with some forward offset on the left or right, about range 1 ish apart (?) depending on what my opponent is bringing, so that I can sweep inward with one or both sides to maximize arc coverage and still get turned around to finish fleeing aces or other wounded stragglers. Or stop with one side and bank with the other, etc. But breaking up that formation is always better than trying to stick to it too long, to take advantage of options or just keep foes guessing; I don't like to just move in a block. Walking carpet has too much reliance on foes staying on one side of you, and a proper ace player will have someone moving in behind your carpet.

Being willing to stop without Leia, or not use Leia when your opponent expects you to do so, gives you some nice surprise options. I even spent Leia and only used her on one wookie (to my opponent's surprise), because that's all I needed. Wookies also make decent blockers; with their large arcs and the right spread of angles, it's a lot harder for an ace to race past you to avoid arcs, which sometimes forces them into an engagement that doesn't favor their cautious preferences. And if you manage that block, you probably land that ace in a mean killbox.

I'm sure Blail Blerg will step in to ask me "But is it good ?" and my preemptive answer is no, nothing is ever ever "good" unless it's already winning tournaments, so no need to ask me. But I enjoy this list quite a lot, and it's great to have wookies back in some capacity. I like them a lot thematically, and I love the wide arc and crew options.

I do miss Breach Specialist tho.

Flew this and it barely squeezed past Grevious+Nantex swarm. Saw could stand to drop a few points, but his ability plus Leia are basically tailor made for the wookies. Kulbee picks off anything trying to swing behind the hairy lugs. There are plenty of better lists, but it’s just so darn thematic I had to try it. Hull upgrade can go on either Saw or Kulbee (or neither).

I always love a list of matched generics, but each with a unique crew or droid or gunner or such. I think 4 Scurrg in 1e was the first one I thought was sweet... equip with 4 different 1-point crew (Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Greedo, and... I dunno, 1e was a ways back) and Long Range Scanners.

There's some cool stuff to do with 4 Reapers, some combination of Palp, Sloane, Death Troopers, Seventh Sister, Kallus, Vader, maybe a few Hull Upgrades.

We might be seeing some equally fun crew stuff for FO now that it has a cheaper crew carrier on its way, and one with neat pilot options to boot! Xi might be a silly swarmable ship with crew like Phasma+Pyre, Kylo, Hux, Thanisson, Hondo, etc.

IMO what team wookies needs is something like Hux. A rebel Hux would make a three auzitucks + u-wing fleet awesome to behold. Probably a good reason why Rebels don't have that. IMO Saw in the U-Wing is a good choice if he's not a crew. Or Magva to limit enemy locks, though IMO FCS is too prevalent for Magva pilot to shine often.

For my wookie list, K-2SO might be the most replaceable crew in the team since calculate isn't that big a boost (and the stress can hurt). I can understand people wanting Magva instead; I'd put her with Saw since that's the ship most likely getting shot, so Magva can actually contribute (and if not, then Saw lives a lot longer and that's awesome). That does leave one naked & boring wookie though; it's cheaper so maybe it can draw less aggro and focus more often.

From my experience, Wulf wants Magva, not Saw. She's a point cheaper, and why hurt yourself when everyone else is perfectly willing to do that for you? With the time-on-target Wulf has, he can just focus to victory.

I like Kaytoo more than Threepio. Threepio is not terrible defensively on his own ship, but Kaytoo lets someone else in the squad reinforce and still get mods. Hrm... maybe three Wookiees in front of Kaytoo who'd try to be a range-band back. Magva focuses (so is the only full-damage target), but Saw Reinforces, and Leia has Calc/Reinforce...

Saw U wing works pretty well, and it's also very thematic since he fought on kashhkk

Tricky thing with K-2SO is it's hard to justify using him vs just going purple. For just 4 points extra you get Kanan, who not only gives you the same mods stress-free but also helps you get rid of any stress you do happen to have.

Granted, it doesn't let you pass that out, but I find the most focus-starved ships are the crew-carriers themselves anyway...

Kaytoo on an ARC kinda makes sense to me, even though Kanan has an appeal--I feel like saving the points there is certainly worth it.

But in this context, there literally aren't points for Kanan. Magva/Saw/Leia on 4 Wookiees leaves exactly 8 points. Let's presume Leia is fixed in the squad. Between Saw, Magva, Kaytoo, Threepio, Kanan, and whatever smaller filler would take the place, I think it'd be the best set of crew.

Part of that is that the early-round goal of Kaytoo is to do something Palp-like, and give someone else the token. Kaytoo's Auzituck is of lower value than Leia, IMHO, so I'd prefer Leia Reinforce + Calculate, and Kaytoo Focus. Putting Kanan on Leia's arc doesn't help (even if willing to cut Saw or Magva), since that makes it a more tempting target, and half the point of Reinforce is to dissuade attacks as much as make the particular attacks worse.

I think he might be a match made in heaven with Lando, though. You want to take blue manouvers anyway, so why not get a calculate for the trouble?

Because Boosts are sooooooo good on a Falcon, and trying to use Kaytoo and red Boosts together gets awkward. Lando also opens up Ezra as an option, not just Kanan, and Ezra offers potential access to double attacks. Not going to pop up too often, but nice when it works out.

The strength of Kaytoo is that he's not limited to the ship. If it was a list like Lando with a Lone Wolf Corran or Wedge or someone who wanted to stay distant? Kaytoo is going to be a really weak pick, and it'd amost surely be better to just find 4 points and take Ezra or Kanan. If you're in a list with a bunch of ships that aren't deliberately trying to stay far apart, there's a decent chance that someone is going to be pulling a blue move, and Kaytoo can sling that calc to someone else.

12 points for a stress-free calculate just seems better than 8 points for a one that costs a stress, in a lot of cases.
