Treacherous

Hey,

I never saw anyone play this upgrade and I think it's pretty decent since it can be used on enemy ships. For two points, be able to cancel a hit or a crit, I played Grievious crew and it's really useful even if it triggers only once.

Maybe on Nantex with two slot of this type, it would be still able to have an offenssive upgrade like Ensnare or Predator and then Treacherous to be more resilient.

Treacherous is--mathematically speaking--amazing. Two points for a rechargeable shield upgrade, with potential to strain an opponents ship. Theoretical upside is probably the strongest talent in the game.

However.... it's geometrically very weak. Treacherous did come out kind of expensive, but early experimentation was typically "oh, this is never actually triggering." That's why you haven't seen it much/ever. Despite being really powerful, it'll pretty much never trigger on board, so it's better to just save points or use the Talent slot for something else. Without those "obstructed by a ship" shots happening, it doesn't matter how strong it could be, and it'll be useless.

Well I figured that "obstructed" was probably the cause and another thing that I thought was I always pick damage over control in v2 so better take a Crack Shot right?

But still, I want to see new stuff and new play styles. As you said, Treacherous has, on paper at least, a strong power. So it would be awsome to see it from time to time on a strong real list.

As the Gran Inquisitor was never played until one guy shine with it, Treacherous might find a way. I probably not good enough to be the guy who will lead the way with it (and maybe there is none after all) but I don't want to give up on it.

So I think I'll try it on a mini swarm of Nantex. As they have a good dial and no shield, with 5 of them it may be a good start to try.

There's some folks playing it with Nantex, might be worth checking that thread out.
