Some item cards questions

By Dunwich Horror, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello, yesterday we were playing Arkham Horror and had problems with how to play some of the item cards.

1) Massa di Requiem per Shuggay (Kingsport, Unique Item, Tome): "Exhaust and spend 4 movement points to make a Will (-2) check. If you pass, discard Massa di Requiem per Shuggay, and the Ancient One immediately awakens. If you fail, nothing happens"

What is the point of this card - can I awaken the AO without his doom track filled to the maximum? The basic rules suggest that the doom track is filled before the AO awakens, so if I would be forced to fill the track before I play the tome, it would be quite pointless. The only explanation would be that I could use the card to wake him up before he has accumulated too many doom markers.

2) Livre d'Ivon (Kingsport, Unique Item, Tome): "Discard and spend 2 movement points to make a Lore (-2) check. If you pass, search the Spell deck for a Spell of your choice and take it, then discard Livre d'Ivon and lose 2 Sanity. If you fail nothing happens."

The other tomes state "Exhaust and spend X movement points to make a Check... if you pass, discard the tome" or something like that. We thought the wording on this tome was quite strange: "Discard" the tome and make the Lore check, if you pass, "discard" the tome. Is this a printing error (first discard=exhaust) or do I discard the tome in order to make the Lore Check, regardless of whether I succeed? How can I discard the same card twice?

3) Call Friend (Spell, Dunwich Horror): "Movement Phase: Cast and exhaust to choose an investigator in Arkham who has not moved this turn. Move that investigator to your current space (even an Other World). The investigator may not move again this turn."

Can I call a friend who is currently trapped in the same space as a monster during his movement phase, allowing him to leave the space without a fight? The rules state that a monster must be battled whenever an investigator ends his movement in the same space as a monster or exits the space. Since he would exit the space during his Movement, he would have to fight them, but I guess a spell works too fast, and the friend I call with the spell dematerializes right in front of the monsters, so that they can't attack him. How to you play this spell?

Thank you very much for your explanations!

Any time the GOO wakes up from some other reason than doom track filling, you fill the doom track. Massa is "useful" against Hastur early (fight him with -0 modifier) or Yibb-Tstll if the board is clear of Clue tokens. Or to stop another investigator from completing Join the Winning Team demonio.gif ...

It's a typo, should be exhaust and spend like the other tomes.

Since you use this in your movement phase, you only do things related to your movement phase. The summoned investigator is just moved when you use the spell, but will have to deal with any monsters in the space he is summoned to when his movement phase rolls around. I don't think there are any effects in the game that see non-active investigators rolling dice (though might be overlooking something).

Massa di Requiem per Shuggay is as stupid a card as Call Ancient One is. In fact, it's even worse because you can't even get a small Doom Track bonus out of it. The tome title may as well translate to, "We Suck And We Quit." Anyone who uses it to take advantage of any variable-modifier Ancient One is just being a weasel.

Massa di Requiem per Shuggay and Call Ancient One are "Waaah! We don't wanna lose!" cards that fly in the face of every aspect of this game. Seething Hatred for these cards.enfadado.gifI use them to pick meat out of my teeth.
