Genesys rule set for EotE

By JBondoux, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I cannot get a copy of any of the core rulesets from UK distributors right now. I can get the EotE Beginner's Set and the Genesys Core rules. Can I muddle through with this? Some of the supplemental sets are also available that I guess might provide some of the lost info.

Thoughts? Is this possible?

Unfortunately they are different enough you are likely stuck . As character gemeration is different. The force does not operate like magic. and so on.

There is a Genesys conversion with lots of resources in this thread, including a way to use the magic system with the Force:

Also, just google Genesys Star Wars and there are plenty of hits.

I wouldn't stress too much about it, you can play a perfectly fun game by just picking a Genesys archetype or anything with a 3/2/2/2/2/1 stat distribution and 100XP. The link above will give you all the converted talents you might want or need, and the Force powers-as-spells works fine. Honestly, the most interesting part of this game is how the narrative dice work. Once you get a handle on that, you can play the game without any talents at all just using skills and a judicious use of adding boost for narrative rewards, and setback for environmental factors.

Great advise. Thanks.

I've just heard on a you tube vlog that the Genesys RPG team has stopped and I guess this would include Star Wars. Is this just rumour? Anyone have links to a real news post on this? If true looks like I ned to keep an eye on eBay for my core sets...

Asmodee has shifted all rpg production to Edge entertainment. we have not heard anything specific about the Star Wars production and genesys production yet.

I'm pretty sure they have confirmed that they will be continuing to reprint existing material, but the impact of Covid on the logistics of international print and distribution is causing understandable delays.

Edge Studio is regularly publishing news in French about how everything comes slowly together and what's going to happen. That includes the reprint of many books in english that are out of print. I'm surprised the same communication isn't done in english too.

Then that's close to an epic marketing fail on Edge Studio's part with regard to the English-speaking fans. The very least that they could have done was to get a News thread pinned in the EofE RPG forum here.

Do you have a link to those news announcements in French?

Thank you!

Time to use my rusty French language skills ...

(And I still think that they should have thought of the English-speaking fans too.)

I agree, They have the new Edge Studio website...would be good to put these updates on it... you know so English fans can know what is going on

I have been buying FFG Star Wars books (core rule books, sourcebooks, Starships and Speeders / Gadgets and Gear type books) on Amazon.com when I see them pop up for reasonable prices. [I am in the U.S. though - so in UK these same books and prices may not be accessible.]

What I have found is that some books are going for their normal retail prices. Some books are going for WELL-OVER their retail prices (doubling, tripling or quadrupling of price). And some books simply are not available.

But the key to all of this is to check and monitor Amazon every few days - I have been pleasantly surprised to see books that had vanished completely suddenly AVAILABLE and for a very decent price! So, for Amazon, check, check again, and double check some more. You might get lucky.

What I really want to find are the NPC cards (Imperials and Rebels I, II) etc. Those I need.

Good luck!

P.S. - if you have a chance to buy the EotE Beginner’s Set, buy it! It is an excellent ‘intro’ to FFG’s Star Wars RPG system. It gives you the most basic rule descriptions, but those can come in really handy for understanding how FFG Star Wars works in game-play. And, it comes with a great adventure, cool character icons and baddie icons, a couple of great maps and of course, a nice set of dice. So don’t pass up on that!

P.P.S. - If you do manage to get the EotE core rule book (or Age of Rebellion or Force & Destiny core rule books) and that is the sum total of the books you are able to find, you are not lost. Honestly, FFG Star Wars can be played and played for hundreds or thousands of hours of pure fun just off ONE of those core rule books. [And dice or dice APP, pencils, paper, etc.]. Again, good luck! I LOVE the FFG Star Wars RPG system!!
