Tie Punisher

I finaly got my hand on a tie Punisher( and a 3rd Bomber) but not sure what to Do with it. How about this:

I'd be inclined to take Fire Control System on Vader before Hate. That way you can maintain your lock without re-locking on the same target. Just my preference though.

I don't know if Vader is the right ship here. He feels like he's missing a lot of good upgrades (Afterburners, Passive Sensors, plus I think FCS would even be better than Hate), but there's nothing else to cut for him--everyone else is about right.

Would it work better to go with some other 2nd ace?

  • Redline (Proton Torpedoes, Passive Sensors) 68 - passives can go a long way on Redline, to ensure they're not hosed against Init 5s and 6s.
    • I guess Proton Torpedoes could be cut for Diamond Boron Missiles--not quite as good, but pretty good
  • Scimitar (Prox Mine) 33 - a good, under-rated ship
  • Scimitar (Prox Mine) 33
  • 2nd Ace
    • Soontir Fel (Marksmanship, Targeting Computer, Shield Upgrade) 66 - no real bid here, but still maybe fun. Cut Shield Upgrade if you want bid.
    • Duchess (Predator, Fifth Brother, Proximity Mine) 64 - why not bring ALLLLLL the mines?
    • Echo (Marksmanship, Fifth Brother, Passive Sensors) 66 - Phantoms are kinda fun
    • Whisper (Fifth Brother, Targeting Computer) 75 could fit... but it requires swapping the Prox Mines for Proton Bombs, plus dropping Redline to DBM over Proton Torpedoes... not sure that'd be better.
    • I guess if we're fitting 75 points, that'd be Vader with Fire Control System and Afterburners...

redline costs 64 points and doesen't offer a lot...

at this point i would prefere every time a quite fully loaded deathrain for 65:

Barely a third of your list for an i5 torp carrier than can target two ships at any given time, likely with double modded attacks... that's a nice offer.

it doesen't offer a lot .....compared to a loaded deathrain.

the big difference between redline and deathtrais is that deathrain can survive a lot more than redline thanks to trajectory sim"field control"

deathrain can be devastating against swarms

redline does a lot of damage but against a single ship and usually dies faster

so i prefere deathrain

That list creates two very easy targets: Redline and Jonus.

I like this better because it can create very difficult target priority choices and each ship can really punish.

Dual proximity mines can be swapped to advanced sensors, but I really like the threat of them on the bombers.

I'm not entirely sure how that makes Redline and Jonus any less of a target priority, except by making them weaker individually for a couple of proximity mines. I think if you wanted to get bombs on the Scimitars, could certainly drop the talent and seismics on Jonus and give them seismics instead. You really don't want to trim Redline cause 2 rerolls on a proton shot is nice. 2x rerolls per cluster shot at a swarm backed with 3 more single reroll barrage rockets is great too.

They are still likely the priority, but now the scimitars are more of a threat.

In your build, how does Redline get 2 rerolls?

FCS and Jonus. You can not reroll the same dice, but 4 die shots normally result in two hits, double target locks also apply when shooting clusters so 3 die with two rerolls against two separate targets as well. It's seriously good. Sometimes it's overkill but I'd rather over kill than fall short.

FCS seems like a waste on Redline to me. You get a free Lock with every action, so you'll pretty much never not have one. Particularly with Jonus in the squad. The value of a 2nd reroll isn't huge, and those times Jonus won't get there on his own, you can just spend the lock and trust you can get a new one.

I'd much rather dump the wicked low value Saturation Salvo to get Passive Sensors. That'll give Redline potentially two locks and a Calculate (Spend Passive Charge > Lock, then Calculate > Lock at Engagement)--perfect for those Cluster Missiles turns.

I was thinking Redline off by himself a little. Have you played the list much?

A version of it before the points hike on redline and Torps. I'm trying to remember the exact build as it had gammas instead of scimitars because I named it hulkbusters.

I always fly my ships close if I can help it.

The builds you guys gave me was good but i felt like playing with it this morning after two loses last night.

Probably just a quirk with the app but it’s showing over (May be under with new points; not uncommon for the app to export under old points after a change).

Regardless, I’d probably pick one of those two munitions on Redline and put passive sensors on. You have a reload action so really you’re not going to run out of one. If you *must* take two, at least go with a missile that covers you at R1. I don’t think you’re doing yourself any favors with two munitions at the same range restriction.

Jonus and bombers are fine. You may run into trouble lining up a bullseye at I4 but the points change is encouraging more large ships to be played so it may get easier.
