Would you like to know about Armada 1.5!?!?

I like the intent of reducing the all-ace squadron builds but would have preferred the rule to be something like this:

You can have a unique squadron for every non-unique taken of the same type.

Note, saying unique instead of non-defense-token squad was intentional. So, to take Mauler and Howlrunner you would have to include 2 TIE fighters in your list. Seems like a better way to get non-uniques into the game and limit the flood of uniques.

Hurts Sato, no thanks. Also creates unnecessary restrictions and forces specific builds in that you may not want, where Red Squad requires 3 more X wings and any part of Jan or Dengar requires a generic squadron for REASONS. Also ALSO hurts the non tokened aces where you cant take Black unless you also take a generic TIE for some reason.

The upcoming rule change hardly changes anything. There are still more than enough incredible unique squads without defense tokens to add to the 4 uniques taken. Pretty much every full squad list will have the same low number of normal squads (1-2):

  • Jendon (20)
  • Marrek (21)
  • Cienna Ree (17)
  • Morna (27)
  • Black (9)
  • Saber (12)
  • Tempest (13)
  • Jumpmaster (12)

Still, most/all of the squads on the table will uniques. NOTGOOD ?

Sure that's how you build it, but others might do it differently. Why not Mauler over Cienna? And the other 4 squads are definitely present, but 2 xwing shots and Tempest goes down. A 3rd and there goes Black. So then I go start shooting the big heavy points squadrons. So maybe NOT Cienna or Mauler but Tel? And we're back to interesting again!

The non tokened uniques aren't the problem anyways. They all give up something a generic has to get a different "generic" ability for 1 or 2 pts over the generic. Where as many of the tokened aces get said tokens plus powerful abilities/dice/buffing other squads for 30-40% more cost

I tend to see the Ace Cap as a kind of whole game balance.

If the data then starts to show a particular subset of aces being predominately taken those can be targeted with points adjustments or errata.

They seem to be starting with the big picture so that they are better set to address the details.

Hard to say who pee in the pool when it's full of kids, right? 🤭

So, I think what I’d want to know about 1.5 is “what’s the best way to learn about the new factions and the game play such as I could make a good single faction choice”. If I were to cross over.

Unfortunately we still don’t know a ton about how they will play. Only hints so far.

I was demonstrating the ratios of aces to non, the specific squads were irrelevant. Before 1.5 the ratio was almost always 100% aces. After 1.5, they will almost always be 90% aces (tokened + non-token uniques). Not really much of a change?

<Citation needed>, as they say on Wikipedia.

But not necessarily the case. With Imps and RHD you'll see a lot more interceptors. It really will shake things up. About the only time I'd expect to see all the uniques taken is with Rieekan.

Yep. I got a few with 2 ace only builds myself
