Inferno Squad article up

Bit annoying you can't run both units out of the box.

You 100% can, and even can fill all available Trooper upgrade slots.

Edit: Shoot, misread the card, the generic unit has 4 minis base and not 3. 😞

I think technically you could if you only ran 4 troops in the Inferno Squad without the T-21 (meaning you built all 5 troops with E-11s)

Gut feeling like clan wren. Inferno squad is gonna be nice with Iden, but generic one is a bit meh. Very fun with options to add heavy weapons to corps units though. Would have loved something like that for rebels.

True but then you are paying a lot of points for a 4 black attack.

I could see a niche of using the generic with with T21s to infiltrate and alpha strike with Iden using her 3 pip? but otherwise, yeah, I agree.

I am feeling pretty good about the Inferno squad itself with Iden. I don’t think they will be super exciting otherwise.

Yup i was worried they would suck and they kinda do. All they have is infiltrate woohoo 🙁

I feel like Death Troopers are way better than the base unit at only 1 2 points more per model. I get the feeling that FFG thinks Infiltrate is worth more points than it should be.

EDIT: I was thinking 72 for DTs, but they're 76...

I think this the first time FFG didn't provide enough plastic to field all the units with all the upgrades included. Kind of disappointing, but at the same time, at least it has taken them this long for that to happen. Hopefully, this isn't the beginning of a new trend....
If Gideon and Del have helmet heads, then it won't be quite as bad to have to buy a second box to field both versions of the Imperial Special forces unit.

Yeah, very meh, but they're the same point cost that pathfinders but geting an unit like two times better.

Seems like they will have helmets "... as well as two miniatures that can be assembled as either regular Imperial Special Forces troopers or Inferno Squad members Gideon Hask and Del Meeko with their corresponding weapons."

Maybe?

I can foresee some very devastating alpha strikes with a group of infiltrated Imp special forces units and Iden using Iden's 3 pip command card. (steady in these scenarios isn't to be shrugged off either. I've had this card used on me to pop 2 units of DTs out of LoS blocking terrain, light me up off the free attack, and then move back behind LoS blocking terrain, securing an objective. That was round 5, had it been round 1 or 2, I'm fairly certain it would've have altered the course of the game.)

Only one way to find out lol time to start playing these units!

that's what I was going to say. The generic is way more useful, dangerous and resilient that any of the pathfinders' units.

I've already converted a couple of extra Scout troopers I had laying around. You could do the same with the Comms trooper.

Missed that line thanks. So not as bad as it could be, but I'd still rather they put 8 models in the box, but I suppose their molds are designed/intended for 7.

Honestly, it seems like the Empire now does Infiltrate a LOT better than Rebels...

Can't say I'm impressed, at first glance they don't look very special.

Any of the units have courage 3 with Gideon

That's good nuff for a lot of things. They're just as tough as Death troopers with Reliable.

Iden could go operative and turn command duties over to Gideon, right?

Marksman outperforms Duck and Cover all day.

How much was the T21 upgrade? 34 pts?

I think it looks worse when you compare it to the Mandos. Buying 2 mando units pretty much gives you three full units, Clan Wren, and two duelist. That feels like real good value, but maybe we just got lucky?

I mean they can't be that much better (blows dust off of pathfinder card).................. oh no. Well maybe points change :(

They will be similarly tough, but 1 Surge token ```is not equal to infinite Surge tokens.

Yup, which is... an interesting idea. Especially filling the rest of the Special Forces slots with the generic units. That could be one heck of an alpha strike.

Well, you are still short a card for the mandos though. I wouldn't be surprised if some fancy card comes out for the unit though in an organized play box. I think that was a bit of "luck" due to FFG deciding to set the default unit size to 3 instead of 4 to keep the unit cheaper or "more balanced."

that is a massive overstatement, but red save + reliable is nice

That's true, but free dodge with Iden close by is pretty nasty as well. They can pick their cover with infiltrate and get aim tokens pretty easily. Aggressive tactics always seemed a better fit on the IMperial side as well.

not really, the T-21 gun is equal or better than the Pathfinders range 4 weapon. Their defense is way better and their characters and command cards available to them are much more useful.

These you could always run multiple units of and not feel like a ham (or soy/veggie counterpart)

If you've ever run 2 squads of Pathfinders in a game, you're being really thematic, but usually feel like you gave your opponent a leg up or at least a 50+pt leg up.
