Does anyone have any advice on how to store the components of the game in the core set box such that they do not get disorganized when the box is carried (e.g. cards all mixed together)? I'm looking for something with future expansion in mind, so that as new products are released for the game I can integrate the components (and any books) into the core set box. I thought of using a tackle box, but I do not know how well that would work, especially if the tackle box were to be store inside the core set box.
Organizing Components for Storage
I'm currently using a three ring binder with plastic card sheets, the kind for sports cards or CCGs. It's a great way to have them since it makes going through the cards like going through a book which you can just pull the needed information (cards) out of.
I've sorted mine by card types (ie melee, ranged, social, spells by rank and type, etc) and just made sure to start a new page for new card types. What I mean by that is that when I run out of melee attack cards I don't start adding ranged attack cards to that page, but instead start on a fresh page. This means that for future expansions I can finish the page with cards of the same type and then simply add new sheets into the binder if necessary and I never have to rearrange anything.
Just make sure that you get a 'D-Ring' binder as circle rings tend to damage the cards on the edges.
I keep my stuff in the Core Box because I like the way it looks, but I have metal Rook card boxes for the big cards, and Really Useful Boxes (I got mine at my local Staples in NY) for the little cards and the counters. Four of those individual player boxes stack neatly in the ATK if you integrate the stuff that came in that box with your Core Set. I did take out the standees because we use real miniatures. I saw someone at a con who had all of his RPG stuff in one of these, which was awesome, but it's definitely more than you need for just 3e alone.
I have everything from the Core Set, GM Toolkit and Adventurers Toolkit all stored in the Core Set box.
The Adventurers Toolkit box is great because it helps keep all the dice, stands and large-format cards organized, and all of the other cards are kept in Ultra-Pro Deck Boxes. The deck boxes are really nice because they're just big enough to fit the small cards (talents, etc) in them stacked horizontally. The rst of the cardboard bits just go into baggies.
Here's a box my wife made for me:

It's made of black foam-core. There's a lid for it (somewhere) made of black foam-core as well. It just slips over the top. The box was made from one foam-core sheet, and the lid from another. I got the idea from the 'Arkham Horror' forums. I did the layout and my wife cut it and put it together for me (because she's awesome like that).
It costs about $3, some glue, and about 1-2 hours time.
The cards are divided by category. The small slots near the front are where I store cards I'm planning on using that session. There are dividers between the cards, cut from foam-core scraps after the project was complete. There's more than enough room for expansion.
Edit: Most of the bits and dice are on the table. I should have put them back in box for the pic ![]()
I don't play at my place, so I looked around for good storage and transport solution. Here's what I came up with. Fist pic is a small hanging file case from Office Max. Inside are two Plano cases (don't remember what model, sorry) and the Adventurers tool kit box that I keep most of the cards and the Character sheets tablets. One Plano is the "Player" box, and one is the "GM" box. I carry the books and my notebook and folder in a messenger bag, but between the two, it really easy to get around. Also hold the 3 tuck boxes with no problem, and a little room left over. The top of the case flips up to hold pencils. All and all it's a sweet set up, and I don't have to worry about light rain walking to and from the car. Tha game box is sitting empty on my gameing shelf cause it's too **** nice to toss.
The round wooden tokens int the GM box are 1" round, you can pick them up at Michael's Craft store if you have one around. Pair them up with a 1" round hole punch from the scapbook section, Gimp some old GW ork banner pics into 1" circles and you have some pretty sweet monster tokens.
I just picked up the core a few weeks ago to run with some friends after playing in my brothers group. As of now I just use the core box but I separate all the different types of cards and use rubberbands. For all of the cutouts I found small tupperware type bowls work pretty well and can be just sat on the table for easy access during play.
I had to remove the cardboard spacer to fit everything in there, but it works nicely. If you find the right containers to put the fatigue type stuff in it leaves plenty of room for the books to lay on top before you put on the lid. Expansion cards could be added to each type and extra books just lay on top.
I store everything in the core boxes as many listed above. Except, I use these round bead storage containers that screw together which means they are stackable and when I need a new counter or chit, I simply unscrew, grab the tokens I need, then screw them back together. You can find them at any hobby shop here in the US and a friend of mine got his for Arkham at Walmart. Here they arewww.amazon.com/Round-Eyelet-Clear-Storage-Organizer/dp/B000RB7CMQ. I got the inch and two inch variety I believe. The bigger ones for the bigger chits, the smaller one for the smaller chits. They work great, have lids and do not spill at all easily. They also can easily be passed around the table and left out as a pool to draw from.
My small cards I keep in individual plastic, bead storage containers I found that matched the size perfectly. This way I don't have to get them out of the box if I don't need them every game. I'll check the label I saved and post it here later if I remember of what box they were. They're deep and are an absolutely perfect fit for the little cards.
The big cards I actually took my Adventurer's toolkit and glued thick cardboard into it, dividing the bottom of the box into four sections, then pile the cards in there. They slide around less than when they were in the rook box and as of right now I have plenty of room for big-cards to be added to the game. In my core, I keep all the party cards, career cards, and nemesis in plastic photo case designed for standard photos I picked up at a craft store for five bucks. They work beautifully. So far, my core does not overflow at all, and that includes the inclusion of the screen.
I keep everything spread between the core and toolkit box, and keep the toolkit box in my core. I have yet to run out of room. I do fear the Winds expansion, but I just may be overestimating (admittedly hoping) to get a ton in that set. If it's in a good red box (which it looks like it will be) then I hope it will be reusable unlike the blasted, flimsy GM Toolkit and Gathering Storm boxes.
What I like about the core over toolboxes is, it puts me in the mood. When I see it, it sets what I'm about to do. I know it may sound cheesy, but I'm drawn to it with magnetism rather than a toolbox which just seems like work to me. Too many years in a scene shop I guess. There is so much about Aesthetics to FFG's design principle it seems a shame to throw it all away.
I bought 200 zip loc bags on the same day I bought the game and have all the cards sorted into different bags. Including the Actions cards sorted by type. I think when the Magic Expansion comes out I'll stop storing my books in the box as it's getting a bit full.
Here's my current sorter. I'm probably going to buy a second one for the standups and sort them by groups (humans/greenskins/beastmen/etc). Bought it at the local hardware store for $10.

Notice the most important bit is room to EXPAND the card selections. Most of the sorters I've seen have room for what's out now, but don't take into account that we'll be getting more of each type of component with every future release. The career cards/etc are in the Adventurer's Toolkit box, which I carry with this in my rolling RPG bag (along with the GM screen, etc). Pulling out those standups will give me additional room as well.
Here's what my binder looks like:

The left hand page holds the last of the Support cards (the ones with the flags), but only the top three slots are full. The cards below them (the middle and bottom rows) are actually just being seen through the sheet on the previous page. The reason I've left these six slots open and continued with the Melee cards on the next sheet is so that if more Support cards are released I can just add them in, and obviously if more than six are released I can simply add in a new sheet to the binder. No reorganizing required ever.
I've also put the career ability cards and talent cards in the binder. Basically, everything that a player would want to look through is in there.
As for the bits and pieces I just keep them separately in little ziploc bags in the core box set. I keep the character sheets, character cards and party cards in the adventurers toolkit box which I also keep in the core box.
I've got binders just like that one for players and one for me (the GM). I even have card sheets that fit the careers, partry, and nemesis sheets. Found them on Amazon and they fit them perfectly four to a page.
Do you think you could link the Amazon page for the sheets that you're using for the party sheets et al?
Thanks for all the tips, everyone! This has been really helpful!
I also use a binder for all the action cards. All the small card I'm keeping in string bags. I bought a small plastic box for all the tokens and the stand ups are in the box fro Adventures Toolkit. The career cards are in the players box. And every thing is in the core set box even the GM screen. Only the books are standing right next to them - I really often like to look in them (not necessarily on the session
).
Can anyone recommend to me card sleeves for the large 'profession' cards?
Will these do?
I just posted some pictures and a short video on my blog on how I am organizing everything now that the Guides are available. I have decided to remove all of my cards from Binders and rely somewhat on the printed book for people to look through. I am also hopeful that a player or two will have their own copy of the Players Guide.
Anyway, you can see how I have everything sorted at http://blogger.seanabrady.net/2011/01/organizing-bits-warhammer-frp.html. Please leave a comment here or there and let me know what you think.

I use the same option for tokens and stands that you do. Small Plano type boxes. But this transport case is a good idea. I am using an old laptop bag to transport all my books etc around in, and it is just not working for me.
I store all of the player-oriented components in the core set box.
- Cards are bound into "decks" with Hugo's Amazing Tape
- Tokens and markers are stored in Altoids tins
- Stand-ups are stored in a large plastic bag
- Papers and books on top of everything else
GM-oriented components are stored in the WoM and SoF boxes, one for all the books, and one for all the components.

I use these for professions and party cards ...
Lineco Archivalware Proline Pre-Cut Sheet Film Sleeve - 4 x 5" - Clear/Sealed Flap - 200 Pack
found here:
I'm thinking about sorting my action deck out so it's organised and easy for my players to browse through.

Will these be the right size for the action cards?
I like to plan ahead, and storage/transport of my gear has to be able to survive car rides, hoofing it, riding the rails and keeping it all out of the reach of my kids (and out of sight of my wife). I have been pondering how to best prepare myself to own 3rd edition and how properly handle all the trinkets (my book shelves won't cut it, as sexy as they are).
The suggestions in this thread are exactly what I was looking for. Thanks all!
--Also, sorry for the thread necromancy--
Here is my setup.
I use a big tackle box after my wife got fed up of me stealing all her ziploc bags.
Photos are in that post : http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=149&efcid=3&efidt=452593#453203
Ok, I took some quick pictures with my flashless smartphone to share my organization. SORRY FOR THE BLUR EFFECT !!! my phone's fault. It was a bit painful to do, but I really hope this will be useful to the whole wfrp3 community. I don't use binders. I use the corebox + creature vault + adventurer toolkit I find it faster, more practical to use and update.
In the COREBOX
- GM Screen
- Token in a flat box
- 3 inner boxes to stock everything making that game great
- I reversed the original inner box and cut 1 to get the central box for mini cards, blank sheet, a dices box and one character box containing basic career cards
- 1 cornflakes box for players actions cards (melee, ranged, support, blessings, spells classified alphabetically each. I sleeved the action card anybody may use, and left unsleeved the action cards reserved to a certain trait like slayer, waywatcher, pets, etc.)
- I reversed the side of the inner original box for the creature cards (sleeved) + their action cards (unsleeved to distinguish them), classified by creature group
In the ADVENTURER TOOLKIT BOX,
Everything I need in the current adventure
In the CREATURE's VAULT
- 1 character box containing advanced careers cards and party sheets,
- 1 character box containing nemesis cards and creature group cards
- All the creature and characters standing, classified by creature group to find them quickly (**** I can't upload that picture)
