A few questions that may well have been covered before!

By Mickymonty, in Tannhauser

I have just purchased the revised rules set for Tannhauser - a few years ago I bought the main game and the Novgorod expansion, as well as the single figures Yula, Sergei and Ramirez - however, as a consequence of problems with the rules (which have been fully discussed on other threads) my gaming group fell out with the game far too quickly, and despite my entreaties the game was shelved. The new rules set seems to have sorted out many of the difficulties, and I think that we may give the game a (much deserved) second try out - but I always seem to come back to the same thoughts - and forgive me if these have already been covered elsewhere...

  • Firstly, although Wolf is listed, he seems to be available through no stockists in the UK at the present time. Is there a plan to re-release this model through FFG, or would I have to pay a fortune to get him some other way?
  • The release of the Daedulus pack seems to be moving steadily backwards, while other releases from FFG move past it - are FFG currently in legal wrangles with this product, and does this account for the long time in bringing this supplement to the shelves?
  • The game desperately needs both new models and new maps. In particular, perhaps some more 'legendary' level models for the other nations (doesn't 'Daedulus' provide the Reich with one?), and some more trooper options perhaps. I know that there were many fan-made boards, but something akin to the map packs that companies like 'Days of Wonder' produce for Memoir '44 would work well enough at this scale - i.e. surely the board does not have to always be produced to the same spec as those in the game boxes to date?
  • Story Mode has been vastly improved through specific character focused scenarios. However, the 'skills' in the game could be made more important than at present, not just within the story context, but possibly within the rules themselves perhaps.

I didn't know what other people thought about these issues - and would value the input about the above from some of the experienced players who use this forum.

Thanks!

Regarding legendary Charakters: There are no legendary Charakters in the revised Rules as far as I know. But yes, we need some more new heroes for the factions.

The good thing about the new rule book is it includes all the rules for Wolf in English. If you search that friendly auction site you will find Wolf for sale in Italy at not much more than you would pay UK. Hope this helps a little.

I hear what you are saying about new models and maps. WIth any luck the slated map and new models will be with us soon. I also hope the Golden Globe Social Club makes an appearance at some stage. I also think FFG should consider making larger maps as the PFS can limit map movement. A harbour or bunker map would be awesome.

Last I heard, FFG was planning to make Wolf a regular retail figure, available through the online store and at local stores all over the place. Perhaps that has not come to pass as yet (I haven't really been watching since I have him already.) At Christmas they were selling Wolf as part of their holiday sale - my guess is they were burning off the remaining stock from the promo print run, so he should be popping up once the get into a new print run (which will likely first involve updating his special rules to V2 so it might take a little bit.)

So to sum up, I believe they are planning to release him again as regular retail, but I don't know exactly how long that will take. If you see a price you're willing to pay and can't wait to own him, it might be worthwhile. If you're more patient, he should be coming eventually.

FFG wanted to release Daedalus with the new V2 rules they had planned. Developing those rules took a few months longer than they originally thought, so the release of Daedalus has been getting pushed back accordingly. They might want to go over that expansion to make sure everything is up to snuff now that the official V2 rules are out, but my guess is that it's release date shouldn't be moving back much more.

I don't think FFG is in any kind of legal debate with the product - the original developer TOY has been defunct for some time now. I think it's just that FFG needed some extra time to make sure the new rules they were developing properly reflected the direction they wanted to go with this product. Personally, I don't mind too much if a product gets delayed. I'd rather have it a bit later and with all the kinks worked out than have it rushed to meet some arbitrary deadline.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "produced to the same spec." Perhaps if I were familiar with Memoir 44 it wold be more obvious. Anyway, FFG has a proud history of publishing expansions like there's no tomorrow, so I don't think you'll have to worry about new figures and maps as long as the game sells well. =)

As far as legendary characters, I never really caught what that was about when TOY mentioned the idea and it doesn't sound like FFG is elaborating on them. Personally I always thought the Heroes were pretty cool and the Troops were ordinary folks. I'm not sure the game needs any more stratification than that.

First up, thanks to all of you for the clear and helpful answers - I am much clearer now on many things (thanks Steve-O!) and may well check out that friendly auction site for this figure. The 'legendary' character reference was to Zor'Ka in the Novgorod expansion, who I thought was meant to represent a level of power and lethality above that of a Hero (although still eminently 'killable' this figure can be restored in health of have wounds transferred to the Voivodes).

It seems that this character is still in the version 2 rules, but am I right in assuming that Zor'Ka is now a 'Hero' class character instead?

Yes Zor'Ka is now a Hero-type character. All re ferences to Legendary characters have been removed from the current version of the rules. Keep in mind that even if this character is no longer a Legend it is still an impressive piece with its high Characteristics and powerfull abilities.
