Sequel Trilogy Ship Count & Identification

By SithLrd88, in Star Wars: Armada

Saw a link for a YouTube Kids entry from Star Wars pointing out all the different ships in sequel trilogy.

https://youtu.be/bb3vhWXClTY

Sometimes doesn't give detailed ship titles/class, but the end part showing ships at Exegol was pretty neat. It even freeze frames it for you.

So many kit-bashed MC75s...

Also that final screen counting them all up. Can anyone make out the pattern behind the font size, colouring and ordering?

The MC95 and its variants look great (even the odd one with the bow fin). The MC75 and 85 variants? Not so much. To be clear, the original 75 and 85 look terrific, but the kit-bashed versions just don't work for me. Still, I can't complain! ILM made some great ships for the Exegol battle.

MC95? Wait what did I miss???

The MC95 is a horrid design. Those distinctively non-Mon Calamari fins are ugly and were obviously just tacked on to lazily try to differentiate it from the MC80 Home One.

Whoever made this abomination obviously put zero effort into it because they knew it would barely be seen in the ridiculous ship spam at the end of TRoS.

I hope I never see this Frankenstein's Monster again.

All the Mon Cal ships share the 'warty sausage' look, and anything you do to change it will detract from the sausage wartiness because you can't really make a warty sausage more sausagely warty, so you have to do something else. Then it becomes different and less Mon Cally.

The MC75 is a good design imo though. I think the MC95 designer tried putting the MC75 and MC80 together.

Better hope Armada does not delve into sequel trilogy then 😂

That is, in fact, my hope. . .

Most of the sequel designs are even worse than the prequel designs. (there are a few decent ones)

I like Rens shuttle and those Resistance bombers alot tho but thats it.

For me the worst are these super lazy 150% upsized SD designs with the ventral gun.

So yes, keep that stuff out of Armada but I would say the same for these silly Robots vs Clones toys.

As the video linked above notes, the original MC95 isn't too bad. It's basically a bigger, chunkier Home One , designed for a Galaxy's Edge ride (and probably was going to feature more prominently in earlier versions of Rise of Skywalker).

But for Rise of Skywalker they wanted more ships, so they took a bunch of existing big ships (MC75, MC80s, MC85s and the new MC95s) and kit-bashed the heck out of them, giving us the MC95A with front-heavy wings , the MC95C with the front-wedge-thing and a belt , the MC95E that someone seems to have squished a bit, and whatever that one on the video thumbnail is (I don't think it is the MC95D, as that seems to be the original but fatter, maybe the MC95B?).

They did the same with the MC75, as you can see in this comment ; kit-bashing for variety. Some of them work well, others less so.

The "I don't like it so I don't want you to enjoy it either" mentality among Star Wars fans is maddening.

How do I like this more?

There is a solution to this problem, but you'll call me a madman for saying it.

I hope we only ever see this design from here on out if only to irritate the complainers more.

Arguably all the Mon Cal designs look like tumor ridden pickles, excluding the MC-75 of course, so this notion that the MC-95 design is magnitudes worse then any of the others is highly amusing.

Personally I like the fins. At least it’s trying to distinguish itself.

(Disclaimer: I quite like the Mon Cal ships)

I agree, the MC75 is a good design and is authentically Mon Calamari.

I don't think Armada will ever add the Disney trilogy factions. I think both FFG and Disney know better than to dredge up the past.

Let the past DIE.

Dear god no. First order will have 1 large ship and 2 huge ships

Kill it if you have to!

The tie-in materials give the First Order Medium , Small and Flotilla options as well (and perhaps even another large in the form of the Titan ). Just saying, if the game were limited to what appeared on-screen in the films, the Empire would only have two ships. ;)

Sorry to the people that don't like prequals or the sequals but they are here and are not going anywhere. I think we will see sequals era factions but if won't be for a long time. Like 5+ years. Unless they discontinue the game.

To be clear I like both for what they are but prequals could have had better acting and the sequals need a cohesive plot. It's all over the place.

I think were missing the point. There doing the clone wars becase the genereation who grew up on it, i know this will be a shock, finally have there own disposable income, and are old enough to enjoy the shipbuildy dice throwy bits of ghe game. Yeah we may not see sequal trillogy stuff for a bit, when the age group that saw these films first get old enough we will see those ships. Right now, eh i wouldent throw the disney trillogy ships out of bed if the decided thats what they were going to make, but i have to admit kid me who loved the spess battles in the PT is super stoked about these ships.

It seems a bit crazy to think that people would not want the game to expand (especially with X-wing right next door thriving with 7 factions). I mean even if you hate the ST you do not have to buy them and why would you not want to blow up the ships you hate again and again? Seems like a win win for everyone?

And it does look like Disney is reading the room and setting up the next gen to be big ST fans. The fact that this info was revealed by Star Wars kids says a lot about how Disney views the franchise. They are playing the long game right now by throwing us nonstop OT and PT while getting our kids to want the ST. And if the fan base can forgive midichlorians, bad acting, and Episode II they will eventually forgive the many mistakes of the ST.

As for the design itself MC95 is not my favorite look (follows Star Wars tradition in making hit or miss ships designs since OT). The base is okay, other variants..............not so much. On the other hand I would throw money at FFG if they offer me a MC85. Look at that beauty: latest?cb=20181015043136

I think if they stuck with the base MC95 version (the one without the fins, wings or other sticky-out-bits) it would be fine.

The big limit on them doing Sequel-era Armada will be finding ships. Resistance has quite a few (4 from TLJ, a few more from RoS) but the First Order is a bit short of them, and there is a lot of duplication, particularly with squadrons. In X-Wing having similar squadrons isn't that much of an issue because they can make the models and ship abilities distinct, but with Armada I think that will be a bit harder.

I think you're grossly over-estimating the Disney Trilogy's appeal to kids and its staying power. The Disney Trilogy toys sold terribly because neither kids nor grown-up Star Wars fans wanted them. Without Star Wars toys and merchandise to serve as pop culture touchstones, Star Wars will be nothing more than a passing fad for kids, because kids are innately fickle. TBH I think Frozen and Pixar movies resonant more strongly with the current generation of kids than the Disney Trilogy ever will. So in a decade or two, when those kids have grown-up and have disposable income, I doubt they'll have nostalgia goggles for the Disney Trilogy.

Regardless, with the Clone Wars, FFG has extended the lifespan of Armada by 3-5 years, depending on how deeply into the EU/Legends FFG delves. 3-5 years isn't not long enough for kids to grow-up and get into board games; and it won't be long enough for grown-up Star Wars fans to forget the divisive Disney Trilogy -- unless Disney completely screws up Star Wars even worse in the meantime.

And as I said before, Disney will be producing a whole new batch of Star Wars content over the next 5 years, and that's what they'll want their Star Wars licensees to push.

Personally, I'm hoping that The Mandalorian and its Post-Endor era spins-offs produce plenty of new ships, starfighters, and characters, which can be used to create new content for the Rebels and Empire, or a new Post-Endor era featuring New Republic vs. Imperial Remnant remnant factions. Considering that Dave Filoni is collaborating with George Lucas and Jon Favreaux, I think we'll be seeing more and more Legends/EU content being canonized.

You make no sense. The MC75 fluff calls out that it is a very atypical Mon Cal design. One that a lot of Mon Cals didn’t like how it looked. So it should not be used as a benchmark for what a typical MCxx ship looks like.

MC95 is “authentically” mon calamari as well.
