I enjoyed a pretty solid degree of success with Nym in First Edition. When he could be paired with an effective bomber such as the one we know now as Finch Dallow. In Second Edition? Not so much. Lately, I've tried him with a pair of Goons toting Proton Bombs and flanked by Sunny, but enjoyed slightly more success running him with a Goon and Palob. (And when I say more success, I mean three games against a relatively poorly optimized First Order list.) a la:
Captain Nym (47)
Dorsal Turret (2)
Seismic Charges (3)
Proton Bombs (5)
Havoc (2)
Trajectory Simulator (6)
"Genius" (2)
Ship total: 67 Half Points: 34 Threshold: 5
Crymorah Goon (30)
Dorsal Turret (2)
Proton Bombs (5)
Ship total: 37 Half Points: 19 Threshold: 4
Palob Godalhi (40)
Proton Bombs (5)
Engine Upgrade (2)
Moldy Crow (18)
Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 3
Sunny Bounder (27)
Autoblasters (3)
Ship total: 30 Half Points: 15 Threshold: 2
Total: 199
The strategy is to Trajectory a Seismic Charge into a cluster of obstacles in the center-ish of the board to threaten a relatively large area with auto-damage, and then slowly swirl around that area with the bombers and flank with cheap-and-cheerful Sunny. And to the extent that I played against a relatively new player with a slightly clunky list, that worked. But it occurred to me that I could achieve nearly the same result slightly cheaper by replacing the Havoc title and Trajectory Simulator with the Boba Fett crew card. In five or six games with Havoc/TS, I think I've used that TS five or six times. I generally don't use the Simulator after that initial toss into the cluster. And I think I've used 'Genius' maybe once - although to *really* strong effect. Having as many as four Proton Bombs on the board at any one time was amazing, though. There's no way to avoid them all, and they finally don't feel overcosted or wasted. Although that Goon still struggles to find the time to drop both of his bombs in any meaningful fashion, given his god-awful dial, ha ha. However, if I do that Fett swap, I can do this:
Captain Nym (47)
Dorsal Turret (2)
Boba Fett (4)
Proton Bombs (5)
Seismic Charges (3)
Ship total: 61 Half Points: 31 Threshold: 5
Crymorah Goon (30)
Dorsal Turret (2)
Proton Bombs (5)
Ship total: 37 Half Points: 19 Threshold: 4
Palob Godalhi (40)
Proton Bombs (5)
Engine Upgrade (2)
Moldy Crow (18)
Ship total: 65 Half Points: 33 Threshold: 3
Crymorah Goon (30)
Dorsal Turret (2)
Proton Bombs (5)
Ship total: 37 Half Points: 19 Threshold: 4
Total: 200
Three questions now arise in my mind. 1) Does the presence of a fourth bomber make up for the previously noted inherent faults in the Y-Wing dial? 2) Do I perhaps like Torkil more than Palob in any such a list? 3) If I stick with Sunny instead of the second Goon, do I use the Boba points savings to put Daredevil on Palob (if I keep him in favor of Torkil)? What do y'all think?
