[WIP] Blood And Credits - An unofficial Clone Wars adventure module feat. mystery, big battles and political intrigue!

By Kualan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello there one and all!

Following my last community project, the expanded Clone Wars guide Heroes On Both Sides (which you can check out HERE ), I'm now beginning work in earnest on my next fan book - an adventure module titled Blood And Credits.

Cover:

As with HoBS, this book will be set during the Clone Wars era, and will feature a group of PCs uncovering a dark conspiracy ready to strike at the heart of the Grand Army of the Republic. Fans of mystery and political intrigues should get a kick out of the content in this adventure, though there will still be plenty of combat encounters and at least one big pitched battle to spice things up along the way. Key elements of the adventure module will include (but are not limited to):

- A story based around an intricate web of corruption and treachery, with many twists, betrayals and surprises along the way.

- Opportunities to use a variety of subsystems from the SWRPG line such as gambling and mass combat rules.

- The chance for PCs to interact with a number of canon Star Wars characters, such as Padme Amidala or Shaak Ti. However the module will also include alternative non-canon character profiles for these NPCs, for those GMs who prefer to keep their games separate from canonical characters and events (for example, Senator Amidala's role in the story can be replaced with an original senator NPC).

- Pre-generated characters so your group can pick up the book and play the adventure right away!

Although it will be a little while yet before the full project is released, I'm now at the stage where I feel confident sharing some of the early pages with you guys and posting updates as work progresses.

Here's a preview of the opening page spread, which features the Introduction, Adventure Overview and Adventure Background sections. This gives a brief outline of the adventure as a whole, and the background context for where the plot kicks off (so, spoiler warning I suppose!):

Huge shout-out goes to @the_dearth for their fantastic InDesign templates for the Star Wars RPG books. I'm a newcomer to InDesign, having used Photoshop exclusively up until now, but his templates have made getting to grips with new software a much less daunting task.

I'll be posting further updates as work progresses, but for now feel free to leave any feedback or questions below!

Only feedback I've got so far is to suggest a different picture of Padme. That one is really pretty bad.

And there's a typo I noticed, "Ettin IV" instead of "Etti IV."

Looks good! I'm looking forward to seeing more. :)

Thanks for the catch! Clearly been playing too much D&D recently, "Ettin"...

Also caught two other minor typos myself so I will get that fixed.

What's wrong with the picture of Padme though? Haha, I can't see it myself!

Her head is way too big (her proportions in general are a bit off), and her face looks badly photoshopped. I also don't think that hairstyle is quite right. She had several, but I think that one is wrong. She had one or two that were similar though.

I love the art in these books, but every so often it just falls flat or they get lazy.

(These may have been the typos you noticed, but I saw two more: "Rumors of reach the clone troopers" instead of "rumors reach the clone troopers" or "rumors of this reach the clone troopers" and Jedi "can only watch on" instead of Jedi "can only look on" Jedi "can only watch")

Great initiative here, @Kualan! :D The adventure looks great!

As for the Padme picture, it looks like Nathalie Portman's face photoshopped onto a Clone Wars animation character body...

This looks good! Excited to see more. Good work!

The art looks official. Do you collab with the FFG artist?

@Kualan

Looks like an amazing start!

I give "+1" support for changing the Padmé picture (either using a different one or something else instead).

Typo, etc.: on page 2 "... it becomes the PCs' mission to find out how the droid was reprogrammed for its deadly purpose - and more importantly, by who." I believe that that "who" should be a "whom" instead.

How much will the PCs be railroaded into sticking to canon? Will they have the option to do something which interferes with Sidious' plans? (Possibly leading to an earlier-than-planned Order 66?)

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. :)

Lol, okay message received - everyone hates the Padme picture.

No, that is from existing FFG artwork. All art used gets credits at the beginning of the book, same as Heroes On Both Sides.

Thanks for the typo - luckily already managed to catch it and it's changed in the current draft.

With regards to canon, there will be no railroading either way - that's always an area best left to individual groups. It won't touch directly on anything like Order 66. However I know there are some GMs who prefer to avoid any kind of connection with canon as even the risk of PCs doing or saying something that might brush too close to established lore is not something that they want to deal with. So the NPCs who the players will have a chance to interact with (like Shaak Ti and Padme) will come with optional canon-neutral alternative characters to fulfill their story roles.

Thank you for the shout out! Looks great, can't wait for the final version! Let me know if I can help!

I don't have a problem with the Padme art. She was definitely experimental with her wardrobe.
