Triple Silencer Advice

By cody3545, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi I'm looking for advice on a triple Silencer list I've only flown them once. These are the list I have right now not sure if its better go for a bid or not or which is better a First Order Test Pilot or Sienar-Jaemus Engineer or another Silencer pilot. Any advice is appreciated.

List 1

Kylo Ren (76)

Black Out (63)

Fanatical (2)

Sienar-Jaemus Engineer (51)

Advanced Optics (4)

Total (196)

List 2

Kylo Ren (76)

Black Out (63)

Advanced Optics (4)

Fanatical (2)

Sienar-Jaemus Engineer (51)

Advanced Optics (4)

Total (200)

List 3

Kylo Ren (76)

Black Out (63)

Fanatical (2)

First Order Test Pilot (56)

Fanatical (2)

Total (199)

Personally I prefer the first list. 2 I5's with passive mods (once fanat is up on BO) and AO on the I1 gives you full knowledge of if you can to spend the focus or not. 4pt bid is enough to let you move last about 60% of the time with Kylo & BO.

In 99% of my Kylo lists I need to have at the minimum a 1pt bid so list 2 is out. But if you like it, maybe swap AO off BO and onto Kylo. You'll get much more value there.

Third list is also OK, you lose an excellent blocker, but with the prevalence of more low I Swarm lists, you potentially have 3 aces.

It really depends on the format you're looking at.

I am playing triple Silencers exclusively atm.

Just read through the posts and you can see why I think list 1 is the strongest in the current meta. I am also trying to share my thought process on how I make my decisions.

The most important thing is who gets which upgrade. For me personally I think Kylo is absolutely fine without any upgrade. He usually is the primary target for your opponent so I don't want to put any more points onto him because he's already expensive. Blackout is expensive as well so I jut put Fanatical on him. It's one of the best upgrades you can get for a Silencer. Because the SJE is your cheapest ship and has the lowest target priority Advanced Optics is an excellent option imo. It really boosts your offensive output (from 2.25 to 2.54).

  • List 1, maybe but less likely list 3. I think Kylo is fine shirtless, and Blackout doesn't really need anything more than Fanatical.
    • Optics Engineer is a great blocker, a solid threat if ignored, and adds a reasonable bid. 4 points isn't huge, but enough folks build close to 200 that it'll probably make a difference.
      • The Engineer is the best ship for Optics in the list. Kylo and Blackout are already threatening enough, so making the 3rd ship more powerful is your best bet. It's the most likely to be ignored, so adding an upgrade that has a really noticeable impact on offense when left alone is great.
      • Taking a 2nd Optics probably isn't as good as the 4 points of bid, so that's why List 2 isn't the way to go.
    • Fanatial FOTP is a baby-ace. If you feel like you'll play a lot of Initiative 2-3 stuff, it can work out well as another arc dodger, essentially another Blackout (I almost never get that pilot ability to trigger).
      • If you expect Init 1 stuff like CIS Droids, being Init 1 for blocking becomes incredibly important again, so the SJEngineer with Optics would be the best bet. Here, again, the 4 point bid matters. Use it to take first player if your opponent has scary Init 1s, to get blocks in. If you can deny them their calculate tokens, droids get a lot weaker.

Alternately, a worse list. Three First Order Test Pilots with Fanatical and choice of perk. The best bets are probably Advanced Optics (strong offense that doesn't necessarily sacrifice defense), Primed Thrusters (if you thought these things moved well before...), or bringing a basic Epsilon TIE/fo as a 4th ship (blocker and minor distraction/speed bump). It's less about a winning list, and more about the distilled essence of the TIE Silencer. It's about being in the mood for these hefty baby aces.

To win, yeah, fly Kylo.

Thanks for the advice Deffly , Ryuneke and theBitterFig. I'm gonna use List 1 for my first time flying 3 Silencers and see how it goes.

No matter how you do, this list is a blast to fly. It looks awesome and gives you a certain feeling.
Good luck!

Ryuneke any suggestions for how to fly the Silencers I've only flown them once before. They remind me of a beefed up Interceptor.

Read through my posts where I tried to provide some strategy.

-For me personally the most important thing is to plan one round ahead. You really want an escape route or second option for your Silencers.

-Don't boost or barrel roll just to get a shot if you end up in a bad spot for the upcoming round.

-Don't force blocks at all costs with the SJE. Often it's not the best idea to 5 forward + barrel roll/boost just to get a block off when your SJE gets annihilated in the combat phase one minute later

-I use Gas Clouds because ships with double repositioning really l´ike them

-practice a lot :)

Supernatty Kylo + 2 sienar jaemus = 196pts

Kylo w/ instinctive aim, optics and protorps

2 SJE w/ optics

198 pts

or change protorps to plasmas and its 193.

With the points change I found you can add QuickDraw into a list with three Silencers. She’ll burn quick but could help put some hurt on an ace before you’re left with just the i1’s.

(48) Sienar-Jaemus Engineer [TIE/vn Silencer]
Points: 48 x 3

(47) "Quickdraw" [TIE/sf Fighter]
(9) Special Forces Gunner
Points: 56

Total points: 200

I've been thinking a bunch about that list since Day 1. Really tempting.

Proud Tradition Holo with Trip-Engineers looks great, though.

There’s a lot of good options for that 4th ship. Backdraft with some gadgets, QD, holo, even Von Reg fits (though I don’t think I’d want to run him without either a bid or daredevil). Then there’s always Proton Kylo with just the two Engineers. Wondering if a Xi would be worth adding in as well if one will cost ~55 points.
