Moveable parts, Peltas, and More???

By SithLrd88, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey all,

In the realm of fantasy, lets go down a fun and different path...

Would you pay more for ships with moveable parts?

I'm thinking specifically of a Pelta with moveable rear wings.

I think it would be fun and be a good alternative to releasing similar models with one cosmetic difference.

Let me state: I have no knowledge of the logistics of such a thing or the profitability.

Would you spend more for one though? Are there other good candidates that could use such a feature?

Happy Hump Day

Yes.

Armada already has the best models because of size and diversity of shapes. (Cept triangles). Moving parts?
12/10.

No.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Join me, and together we will set 100 1/8" s-foils into attack position.

I agree. Part of what I like about armada is that the ships really are pretty durable (VSD antennae and Nebulon pegs aside). I would be afraid of moving parts being much more susceptible to breaking.

I'm pretty clumsy, and my regular opponent is clumsier. It's a good game when we don't manage to drop a ship on the floor or knock something out of position. Little fiddly bendy bits that can easily snap off? Nah.

More functional human beings may well disagree.

I mean it works well on X-wing because of the scale, but how many Armada ships would actually make use of it apart from the pelta? First thing that comes to mind is the VSD missile doors but idk if that's cannon anymore (or if ever was) sadly.

It would be sweet on ships like Peltas, it would be abhorrent on squadrons.

I mean S-foils are already fiddly at X-wing scale, let along on armada scale. And while it would be nice on the pelta I'm pretty sure that's the only ship in the game that actually has moving parts..

They could make the VSD's antenna extendable. Then we'd be even more disappointed when it breaks off.

What about a MC75 with a lowerable CR-90 from it's hangar bay, haha!

Waste of Time

People only ever seem to put Hammerheads in there.

Hey, not all of us are clumsy! My core set VSD still has both antennae! My second VSD was already broken when I bought it off of eBay, but it still has one of them.

Only one's an Antenna.

The other's a Fire Control Tower ;)

Preferably not.

Movable parts means breakable parts.

Armada is too expensive to risk breaking ships.

There’s a risk/reward ratio here and I’m not seeing how much the reward justifies the risk here.

I'd be in favour of a re-designed Republic Pelta with moveable aft wings.

I'd also like a re-design Victory SD with wings that open and closed -- but most of all, every VSD should include at least 2 sets of replacement antennae, because the VSD's antennae always break, the antennae would cost virtually nothing, and both antennae slot into holes in the model so they're easily replaceable (not even requiring glue).

I know they're not "necessary" but they'd be nice improvements.

I’d rather just see the GAR peltas have the wings swept back like it shows up onscreen

Why?

The majority of ships don't have major moving parts. It would just be a gimmick that doesn't really give any gameplay benefit, would make the models more complex, less durable and more expensive.

I imagine it's because several X-Wing 2nd Edition ships were updated with moving parts, like the X-Wing and B-Wing, so it's within the realm of possibility that Armada ships could have moving parts too.
