Finally, my first two sessions are over! And they were great! Last night me and some friends gathered up for a spaghetti and Arkham Night ![]()
As we started to play, everyone chose their investigator and we pulled the Ancient One-it was Yog. I said that maybe we should swap, but they insisted we play by the rules. Ok fine. Needless to say that the game was a devouring disaster
). First of all, I needed to explain the rules step-by-step and it was an okay learning curve since they play boardgames usually. Too many gates appeared and Yog spawned for a final confrontation. And yes, one of the players got himself lost in time and space the turn earlier so he was devoured. Poor professor Jenkins. Yog killed us off so fast we didn't knew what hit us.
They insisted on a second game to my surprise. Ancient one was Hastur, we were: Joe Diamond the Private Eye, Carolyn Fern the Psychologist (me), Sister Mary the Nun, Gloria Goldberg the author and Darrell Simmons the Photographer. Since I knew by reading on various forums that Hastur is an ok AO for beginners I knew this would be a more fun game. And boy was I right. First of all, everyone caught up the rules pretty good. Secondly, everyone except one player were thrilled for their new characters (he wasn't a guy with guns so he was bored). We started great in the game. We closed off three doors, one were sealed, we fought up with a monster surge, Sister Mary was on a roll, and not too many of us went insane and into Asylum. Everything was going great, we even had another elder sign for sealing off the gate, I had to be precise, but then again was a monster surge, we started to run an soon enough appeared two more gates and our fate was sealed, Hastur appeared. Little did we know this was gonna be an epic battle for our sanity and lives, as opposed to widespread belief we would die in a matter of seconds. First off, Sister Mary and Gloria had some good spells (don't kill me, I don't know which exactly, but they add to combat rating), Joe had some clues still and guns which were to some extent less effective, Darrell had a plethora of good items and finally me, I had a shotgun and some luck
. The combat was enduring and fun. I scored critical two sixes on my shotgun attack roll for two successes and removed that final doom token. My ability to restore 1 sanity to people really payed off nicely. I was able to restore that 1 sanity for spell checks to Sister Mary and Gloria on occasion. We really won, no one could believed it. We just thought let's get this over with and we will go home. When successes started to come, we were surprised and so much engaged in it like no other board game.
After the end of the game, a friend asked when we can play some more. My group took the game nicely and can't wait to play another session. I am thrilled to say the least.
The report is not coherent that much, but it just emphasizes the fun we had.
