Game 1 - Sloane Interdictor Interceptors vs. Krysta Agate Starhawk

By Admiral Calkins, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

Game 1 (of the four I played) of our mini-tournament was against Chris G. from Tucson Fleet.

Name: Robert Calkins

Defense: Asteroid Tactics
Navigation: Superior Positions

Interdictor Suppression Refit (90)
• Admiral Sloane (24)
• Wulff Yularen (7)
• Engine Techs (8)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
• Grav Shift Reroute (2)
• Targeting Scrambler (5)
• SW-7 Ion Batteries (5)
• Interdictor (3)
= 147 Points

Quasar Fire I (54)
• Captain Brunson (5)
• Flight Controllers (6)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
• Stronghold (5)
= 77 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Hondo Ohnaka (2)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
= 28 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
= 26 Points

Squadrons:
• Ciena Ree (17)
• Howlrunner (16)
• Saber Squadron (12)
• 7 x TIE Interceptor Squadron (77)
= 122 Points

Total Points: 400

This list was started with getting as much use out of Reserve Hanger Deck as possible and then I worked out from there. Interceptors seemed like the best value for the card (for what I wanted to do with them) and Sloane seemed like the best Commander. And Interdictors because they are fun.

This was Chris' second time playing with the Starhawk and he made sure not to deploy it in the corner again (it didn't even get into the fight during our last game). Full squadron compliment to wear down a ship before the Starhawk destroyed it and Slicer Tools to keep a carrier from pushing squadrons.

He had initiative and chose to be second player. I chose Fighter Ambush as the objective.

Deployment: While I started deploying to the left of center, he learned from our last game and deployed his Starhawk directly in the center of his deployment area. After I used Grav Shift Reroute, he deployed his squadrons on the closest obstacle possible to my fleet (we both wanted him to deploy by the debris field in my deployment zone, which would have been the flak storm from ****, but apparently I missed on the card that they had to be at least Distance 5 from my edge).

Round 1: Using every ship to push squadrons, I conducted a full alpha strike against his squadron ball, destroying Hera, Luke, and a generic Lancer before they could activate (also took Ketsu down to one hull). He moved Quantum Storm closer to use Slicer Tools the next round, while I slow-rolled towards the center. He chose to not attack with his squadrons so that he didn't get destroyed by counter.

Round 2: I finished off his squadrons and moved towards the Starhawk. Quantum Storm moved past my Interdictor and then gave it a Navigate command with Slicer Tools. The rest of my squadrons started attacking the Starhawk.

Round 3: My Interdictor, with the help of two squadrons, started the round by destroying Quantum Storm . My squadrons then started to work on the left hull zone of the Starhawk, stripping its tokens and damaging its hull (we forget the victory tokens for the objective).

Round 4: After my Interdictor attacked and then the Starhawk was unable to destroy the Quasar, he expected me to immediately destroy the Starhawk with the Quasar, Gozanti, and squadrons (given the amount of damage cards already on it). So in lieu of playing it out, we called the game for the sake of time, ending with a 10-1 (400 MoV).

Thoughts: While he played much better with the Starhawk this time, the squadron deployment left him too vulnerable to the inevitable alpha strike. Unfortunately, I didn't get to use Reserve Hanger Deck this game, but he chose different targets sometimes because he knew that I would just bring the damaged squadron back.

Hope you enjoyed the BATREP!

Indeed. Thanks for the report.
