Fisrt game off to an awesome start

By dirtknap, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Party consists of Dwarf Thug, Human Mercenary, and Wood Elf Envoy (draw 3, select 1). The mercenary player and envoy player have never played an RPG before and the Dwarf player is a 20 year vet (and my first DM, from well, 20 years ago).

The game simply sang with the new guys. All the bits and bobs worked great for keeping them up with what was going on, and having the rules on the cards kept things rolling smoothly. The grizzled vet loved the narrative aspect of the dice pools.

The Mercenary, having never played before, just busted out in the Eye for an Eye fight while they are on the wagon, "I want to use the Stunt...I want to entangle the Beastman with my whip and drag him under the cart wheels while we are heading for the gate." He was truley blessed with a net 2 successes and a comet!

Great game.

That is great to hear. The new player not waiting for rules to hand him "permission to imagine that" but seizing it is great!

That's awesome. Your group had much the same reaction that mine did. I, too, loved the way the cards let people just jump in without worrying about whether or not "they could do that."

Our group did our first session last week going threw the demo adventure, we messed up just about every rule we could but it was still fun enough that everyone wanted to try another. Last Night we ran the adventure out of the GM manual. This time things went off without a hitch, the system was very smooth and there was more role playing than roll playing for once. The players finally got into the abstraction and stopped trying to play it like a tactical war game.

Two of the people in this group did a year and a half long D&D 4e campaign with me and I had never seen either of them jump into the story narrative so much. The large investigation portion of the adventure was just as exciting as most of the combat. We started at 3pm and I think I was the only one who noticed it was after 11 when the final combat ended. Next week we tie up loose ends then straight into The Gathering Storm, can't wait.
