Help w/ species ability for creatures in wasteland

I'm trying to build an orc-like species that resides in a barren land suffused with a sort of miasma that inhibits healing, growth, and general well-being, including positive, or strong emotions. I envision the species as being tribal, somewhat nomadic, and conducting raids on the settlements outside of this almost uninhabitable zone. They likely would prefer to live in a different area, but are kept out of more welcoming locales by the denizens therein who don't take kind to this species.

In particular, I'm trying to come up with a trait or two that reflects this species' hardy, resilient nature at surviving in such an inhospitable land.

Thinking maybe:

Generations of exposure to negative magical energies has left these creatures somewhat resistant to magic as a defense. All spells they cast, and all spells cast on them by others gain one Setback.

you could go with cockroach people or something
giving them a soak bonus or defense
