Is anyone able to explain how Echo at 40 points is only worth 2 more points than Tristan Wren?

For those 2 points you are buying a gun than can shoot at range 5 rather than 3, the dice change from 2 x black to 2 x red and you gain Reliable 1, Critical 1 plus immune: deflect?

Not forgetting that he can be used in any corp squad aswell.

In addition to the replies others have given, we have to assume that Tristan's adding to a unit rolling red with surge and impervious. They're overall gonna be pretty tough to kill, even compared to ARCs

For further comparison, there's also Meeko and Hask to think about.

That's a good point that I hadn't thought of before. Hask and Fives are identical in everything but their weapon dice (which do the same average damage [assuming no surges]), but Hask is 2 points more expensive...for some reason. And Imperial units are a bit cheaper than Republic units, so it seems to me that Hask should cost fewer points than Fives. Is there a specific interaction the devs might be worried about that would make Hask cost more (Snowtroopers maybe)?

Maybe Imperial Special Forces/Inferno Squad are going to be crazy powerful/expensive?

It might be to discourage you from getting three orders out of one if you chain to shores to mortar. Also while the troops are cheaper for the empire, the heavies aren't (especially for shores).

Honestly, Surge to hit could easily explain the discrepancy. I'd be mildly surprised if Imperial Special Forces don't have that type of surging at least. Also it is conceivable that the Republic's third corps unit won't have a seperate emplacement or at the very least, won't have Coordinate: Emplacement.

I'd take the guess that the surges would mirror Iden's (even if the same probably won't be true compared to Sabine and Clan Wren, at least offensively).

Maybe? It's hard to say, we haven't had a Mandalorian unit yet. I think it's a safe bet Clan Wren will at least surge to hit. Honestly, that could even be the effect of the upgrade card from Mandalorian Resistance.

Is everyone buying 3x ARC Trooper packs? If no, please give us a reason why not 3?

So happy to finally get Range 5 for my Reaper Troopers. Go Team Snipers!

Would be nice if we can field an entire army equipped with Jetpacks.

I shall be sticking with my plan to get enough of each unit for every possible combination in skirmish battles. So in this case two boxes of ARC Troopers. For the record, I had arrived at the exact same numbers independently by way of making long-term budgetary considerations, but finding out that they align perfectly with an official play mode's solidified my commitment.

I think 2 is a good number. Gives you plenty of bodies to work with. But I'm preordered for 3. My reasons are minor: 1) my OCD; 2) for official tournaments; 3) want the option to field as many jetpacks as i can (cuz i can and it'll look marvelous).

You can fit 3x ARC, 3x Cores, Rex, R2, and Saber. With zero upgrades, you have 133 points for flavor. Plenty of room.

My OCD is satisfied with two (partly thanks to skirmish rules). I have no interest in tournaments (or "the meta") whatsoever. Two boxes still provide plenty of options for standard battles (and eventually for grand battles as well) - one full squad and two strike teams sounds pretty neat for instance - and I'd rather not end up having bought an extra box I'll never really use.

what happened to five dice fives??

Hang on so if echo is in a strike team and he gets defeated... he reappears where the other clone was with 2 wounds again?

We were trolled

Here is where I'm at with the whole 2 or 3 boxes thing.

Gameplay wonder I'll probably never need more than 2 it's true. But as someone who is into modding I'm expecting this box might be good for that. So I want as many bits as I can get, but with the poor forecasting they have been doing I'm worried if I don't get 3 boxes now I'll never be able too

This is a fair point. Hopefully the sprues are built such that there are greater conversion opportunities without extensive difficult cuts.
