EEE by Gum

By Baaa, in X-Wing Squad Lists

The E-Wing has always been one of my favourite ships, and one that I have had the least success with. But I ain't no quitter and want to make Triple E-Wings work.

The list I have so far is -

Rogue Squadron Escort (53)
Predator (2)
Fire-Control System (2)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
R3 Astromech (3)

Rogue Squadron Escort (53)
Predator (2)
Fire-Control System (2)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
R3 Astromech (3)

Predator (2)
Fire-Control System (2)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
R3 Astromech (3)
Total: 198

Any other ideas? I have played around with Ion Torps instead of Adv Proton but am undecided as both have their uses.

I don't really like Predator. With FCS and R3 for saved rerolls, Predator's extra reroll doesn't add a tonne. I'd just switch it over to Crack Shot.

I guess APT is fine. If going Ion, I'd be more inclined to do maybe maybe 2 Ion + 1 APT, to increase the close-range potential. Or maybe even 1 Ion 2 APT. Maybe that's better than 3 APT, I dunno, but I don't think I'd go 3 Ion.

With APT builds... points allowing, it might make sense to bring Munitions Failsafe. If I rolled like 4 blanks, might be better to just cancel the dice and save the charge and lock for next round.

My best triple E-Wing has been Knaves with regular Torpedoes.

You could go 3x Knave with R3 and Proton Torpedoes, or add FCS if you switch one Proton out for a Plasma. When I played it, I had 2 Proton 1 Plasma without FCS, due to higher costs. It's an OK squad. Playable, but probably not a lot better than a 3/3 (4/2 if you're lucky). Kinda simple, kinda fun.

When it come to Torpedo E-Wings, I think R3 is Essential . I get there are folks who really like R4, and it will improve the close-fighting potential of Es, but if you're investing this many points in being able to nuke folks with Torpedoes, being able to queue up two targets does not feel optional. Not saying don't do R4, but I'd be skeptical of R4 + Proton Torpedoes. 3x ProTorps really needs to maximize that opening round, which probably means two Locks so an opponent can't avoid you as easily.

Thanks for that.

I totally agree with you on the R3/R4 thing. If you're using torpedoes it's the best option.
Your first suggestion would look like this -

Rogue Squadron Escort (53) x 2
Crack Shot (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
R3 Astromech (3)
Munitions Failsafe (1)

Rogue Squadron Escort (53)
Crack Shot (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Ion Torpedoes (6)
R3 Astromech (3)
Munitions Failsafe (1)
Total: 198

Thanks,

I'm not taken on your first list, although I'm a sucker for named pilots as well.

As for your second one, I'm not sure Corran brings anything to the party here, I'm losing a set of torpedoes with a re-roll for a 1 point initiative bid and a range dependant bonus. And Crackshot on all three ships rather than one.

I've been playing around with the list that theBitterFig suggested and it's been doing pretty well, albeit against the AI on the FlyCasual.

Corran is fun.

Hoth will melt before Gavin is worth 8 points over a Rogue in non-Epic games.

I've seen that list and it looks decent but that's EXE, or EEX or XEE :(
I'm old, and I want EEE to work before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

Just a crazy thought but go marksmanship instead of crack. It works more than once per game. And at i4 most non ace stuff is going to get pinged. And then drill those crits home. Plus once you've spent the Torps you can still marksmanship the pew pews.

@Baaa

This just went very high (Top 4, I think) in an 88 player tournament. Crazy amount of firepower and coverage.

EEE+1

Agreed.

I think it’s worth 3-4 points. It’s not much of a force multiplier AND the Ewing is so expensive that you’re only talking 2 more 3 die attacks at most.

That being said..... in niche matches he is an abomination vs high hull ships with reinforce.

The issue with Marksmanship is that it usually never matters.

OK, so it happens unlimited times per game, potentially? Well, maybe if the shields are down, you'll get a crit through. Best crit is Direct Hit. Which is the effect of a Crack Shot, but CS works with shields up, and you get to see if you need it first.

Realistically, you probably won't have two Marksmanship Direct Hits in a single game, and some of those times it happens will be overkill crits.

I'll grant that Marksmanship can be a meta call/tech choice against non-shield targets like Vulture Swarm or whatever. CS is usually just better, however.

Marksmanship matters for Marek, Seyn, Bossk, and Autoblasters. Other than that it's not that great.

Generally speaking, if just using primary the whole time, crack is alright but I'd prefer predator if I can afford it. If you're carrying Proton Torps of either flavor marksmanship is so much better than crack shot. And while direct hit is 'the best', fuel leak, panicked pilot, console fire and a few others can outright swing an entire game, where just a face down card wouldn't. And again it's not a one use and done thing. And to me that makes it so much more versatile.

Gavin and 3 blue escorts is decent

The only question to me is APT or Plasma Torpedoes.

  • Rogue (FCS, Plasma Torpedoes, R3) 64
  • Rogue (FCS, Plasma Torpedoes, R3) 64
  • Gavin (Plasma Torpedoes, R3) 71
    • Total 199, bid 1

Without Gavin (who I might be coming around on, even though he's now got a 9 point differential over a Rogue), you can have a few Proton Torpedoes:

  • Rogue (Marksmanship, Proton Torpedoes, R3) 68
  • Rogue (Marksmanship, Proton Torpedoes, R3) 68
  • Rogue (Marksmanship, Plasma Torpedoes, R3) 63
    • Total 199, bid 1
