Oh, I'm GMing for a group of Swords for Hire. They are The Three Scoundrels. Check it out:

Hanz Sontag - Human Thug

Karl Sontag - Human Smuggler

Sven Sontag - Human Apprendice Grey Wizard

As you can imagine, they are three brothers from Altdorf. Their father was a Smuggler who gambled and drank a lot. He had many flaws and teached them about the harshness of life. So they kinda of raised themselves, looking for each other, but also comping a lot. Hanz is the older and stronger, Karl has a way with words and smiles, Sven is the yuongest and... the strangest. He was taken by 9 to be trained in the Grey College.

Their father recently died and soon after that Hanz and Karl both got a bunch of Thugs knocking at their doors. It seemed their father owned a lot of money to a corrupt Burgher / Politician (something rounding 100 Gold Crowns!). So the Thugs took everything they had and sent them to get some more. Sven joined them soon after, saying the same happened to him, but actually his master came and said his scholarship had ended and he owned the College 20 Gold Crowns. His Master was going to keep all his possessions till he got what he owned (all was part of a training), and he also had to help his brothers because his Master didn't want him owning anyone other than the College.

They are going to start An Eye for an Eye. We are playing their way, on foot, till Auerswald, where they are going to meet Lord Aschanffenberg manservant (I changed teh city to give them a lift, more roleplaying opportunities and also 2 days more of payment, as they are without any equipment and I think they won't survive without some weapons and armour). They fight each other a lot, are always trying to con each other, but they take care of each other's backs.

It's an incredible group. It's amazing to see such a bunch of anti-heroes together. They are Empire folk nevertheless, and hate Chaos, Cultists and such. They don't have much love for the nobility also, and they are survivors on top of everything. It will be very amusing to see them going through every released adventure we can put our hands on (such a strange party for taking the hero role!).

What is also great is that they do make a balanced trio. They actually has all Characteristics covered by those three careers!

So far our group has consisted of first

A Dwarf male agent working for bugmans brewery tasked with tracking down fake ale (he was hilarious, but died tragically fighting the leader of an ale smuggling ring), a human female barber surgeon, a human female mercenary and a human female wizards apprentice.

So far so good, the surgeon and the agent died (the players had to stop playing) and were replaced by a male human thief and a male iron breaker for a few games, until that group fell apart.

Now the group is almost done with the winds of magic adventure and are moving back to Stromdorf.

We have a Male Sigmarite Initiate, the mercenary and now acolyte wizard, a waywatcher, a gambler and a soldier. So a good mix of social, melee and ranged. I'm very happy.

My Band of Thugs consists of:-

A Human Pit fighter who transitioned into a Mercenary

A Human Burgher who transitioned into an Agent

A Human Barber Surgeon who transitioned into a Student

A Human Gambler who transitioned into a Hedge Wizard

A Human Thief who transitioned into a Gambler

A Dwarf Ratcatcher who transitioned into a Bounty Hunter.

Hi, my friends and I just started our first 3rd edition game last week. Conclusion: This edition has been very well thought. Well done FF.

Our party ended up being after choosing between 3 :

  • Dwarf trollslayer
  • High elf mercenary
  • Human student
  • Human scout

We decided that intrepid adventurers described us the best.

I might write a resume of the game later on to introduce the characters. We played through the quest in the gm guide of the coreset to learn the rules before moving to our gm's main quest in the borderlands. Since we 'failed' but survived to live another day and since we might have made some mistakes with the game rules, I think it might be interresting to have some outside feedback on it.

Im not sure If I have pitched in here before, but the party has changed since we started on TGS. We got a new member as well.

Party Mercenaries for Hire

Dave: High elf, Envoy. After playing his Rat catcher through the opening of E4aE, he decided he wanted to play someone with more class. Thus the High elven Envoy was born.

Jarle: A human scout. Jarle have the tedency to play his characters to they either die of old age, succumb to ravenous diseases or horrible wounds. But as long as he can limp around he wont ditch his character, ever.

Kai Robin: is the newest member and decided to play a Shallya priest, on of the few males of that cult to exist. at the moment he is appaled by group`s general behaviour and attitude. But are fitting in more and more by each passing session.

Bjørn: human, roadwarden. his dedication and hatred of chaos is taking this Roadwarden on the path of becoming a Witch-hunter, have pity on the mutants (reads anyone HE thinks is a threat to him).

Stix: A trollslayer. A true power gamer to the core. "I`ll waste him with my..." a trollslayer that knows ritual dancing, saga of the ancestors, and way of the sword? That would be Stix`s troll slayer. We are very fond of him, our mascot.

Arne: apprentice wizard of the bright order. A true roleplayer to the bone. he can recite several lengty poems at the of of hat. and get involved in any scene or situation where proper roleplaying is in demand.

togheter they form the fantastic 4 +2. They are a bunch of great roleplayers, which always keep me on my toes, never knowing what they will do next, they have more than 80 years of roleplaying experience combined, and more than 1 000 years of paranoia combined. gran_risa.gif But they play the new WFRP as they where kids, kids with 1000 years of cynisicm comined that is.

We've just started, really, having played a couple of sessions now, with three players and the GM holding tightly, white-knuckledly, onto the reins of our 'find some fella' story so far.

The group decided to roll races randomly, and went for the 'pick out of 3 career choices' method. Random whimsy all the way, and we were not disappointed!

Our Brash Young Fools are as follows:

Human Initiate of Shellya (female) - our pleasant, social, and skitterish-in-combat lady, who has been pushed out of the nest to gain some worldliness. While naive, she is no fool, and found a company with which (in which?) to travel.

Dwarf Gambler (male) - 'shifty' is a good way to label him. Almost completely broke, he speaks constantly about how his former fortune was taken from him, and how he will someday get it back...and speaks not at all about why, exactly, he is no longer with his people, and why he finds himself on the road looking for safety in numbers.

High Elf Soldier (male) - part of a task force sent to help the Imperial forces fight on the Northern borders, but his group was ambushed, decimated, and scattered. He has decided to wander where Fate takes him in these strange Human lands, seeing little harm in travelling with these two - uh, characters - for their protection, and for his own social insulation. Things go much more easily in towns when there is a friendly Initiate talking to the people, rather than the somewhat taciturn, longbow-toting Elf warrior.

We just played our second session from one of the prepared scenarios. (Eye for an Eye, I think.)

We're swords for hire: a Troll-slayer, an Apprentice (Bright Order), and a Smuggler. Personalities and histories are still being developed.

I've updated analytics through post #59 of the ACTUAL CAREERS AND RACES IN USE:

spreadsheets.google.com/ccc

I'll probably add party types given later.

A human Bright wizard acolyte now apprentice.

A human Initiate of Morr now disciple.

A human gambler now thief.

I have three PCs in my group but a fourth one will be added next session.

In the mean time, I can tell you that the characters are:

Dolf Vordenstein: human bounty hunter, a very practical-minded man in it for the money. He's interested in becoming a witch hunter although he doesn't really care about their ideology. He just loves the hunt.

Balthazar: human grey wizard apprentice. Sent out to wander the lands by his college, Balthazar is extremely interested in any kind of secret truth. He loves conspiracy theories and speaking his mind in a very open, sometimes dangerous way. He hates witch hunters and doesn't hide it.

Juna Feierbach: a young initiate of Shallya, Juna sees the world as a challenge, life as a test. She has a strong conscience and strict moral beliefs. Despite this, she has no judgmental spirit and seems to be able to get along with everyone.

Human only campaign:

Apprentice Wizard.
Barber-Surgeon.
Coachman.
Scout.
Watchman.

Im GM for the Glory Hounds. They consist of:

Male Human Gambler - Really efficient in social situations and seduction, and has some fun combat alternatives, such as thowing a box of eggs on an attacking beastman.

Male Human Soldier - Quite solid and allround, dealing with both combat and investigation. Can be a bit careless, such as crossing a sewer stream while his legs are covered in wounds (need the nurgle expansion soon!)

Male High Elf Swords Master - By far the most efficient warrior but also the most arrogant. Often a liability in social encounters

Male Human Amethyst Apprentice Wizard - Both a bit of a schollar and a bully. Good thing he is backed up by the 2 warriors. Has a nice spell to negate fear and terror and some offentice magic as well.

Any updates now that there are a lot more careers out? Are your players trying out the new ones or sticking the original core/toolkit ones?

Yes, my players are now rank two and are currently pursuing the following careers:

  • Apotechary/Diciple of Shallya (former Initiate who is "dual classing" now)
  • Chamberlain (former Envoy)
  • Giant Slayer (former Troll Slayer, duh!)
  • Watchman (former soldier)

So, I guess that the Apotechary and the Chamerlain are pursuing new careers, while the other two are sticking to older ones. :) A great mix.

Our new group ( pregens from Liber fanatica #7):

Watchman

swordmaster

Thief

Commoner

jh

Iron Breaker

Bright Wizard

woodelf Ratcatcher/archer/thief

Myrmidia warrior priest.

All characters are rank 4 though, so they have been through other careers, But that's the general despription I'd put on them.

Oh dear... rank 4 and these careers? Is there anything they can't plow through? Would like to witness a combat episode with that setup sorpresa.gif

Yeah they're quite capable. We're on chapter 8 of the thousand thrones. Yesterday they invaded a skaven camp (chapter 7). They met 4 gutter runners, an eshin assassin and a rat ogre. All NPCs were buffed and tougher than standard creature vault creatures. Still they killed them easily. The rat ogre was killed by the myrmidia priest using his spear in a single strike with an incredible check. He used all his stuff, blessings and three fortune points so he has 6 expertise dice in the pool.

Still there are monsters they have a tough time with, but for a real challenge by now they need to meet either a lot of foes or things like chaos trolls, demons, vampires etc. But it's fairly balanced with the last two chapters as they are quite viscious. They might actually survive. The iron breaker is a defensive powerhouse. When he throws in 3 challenge dice and 6 misfortune dice, monsters have a hard time hitting him (still happends though and the rat ogre actually gave him 16 damage (before soak) in one strike yesterday where he defended fully). But he's very durable and have a lot of actions to refresh his defenses. Generally he only uses fortune points to refresh defenses. We still have a lot of fun though, because on average only 10% of the game time is combat. They also have a lot of different other skills like folk lore. The iron breaker only has a weapon skill of 2 for instance, so they aren't completely pimped out and one sides.

But with our house rules even these characters are pretty balanced. Yesterday the elf almost died, because she tried to dive into the skaven cave. She had to make the last athletics check or get another fatigue, pass out and drown. Made it on a very lucky check though.

But it's a fun group, and combat is awesome as they have a lot of actions that interact with each other.

Two sessions (about 20 hours) and we're done with TTT. We'll start a EoN/TGS campaign based around übersreich. A sandbox campaign where I think they intend to make some different kind of characters.

Our group consists of the following:

High Elf Gambler named Ulan

Sword Master named Kethael

Ironbrreaker nicknamed "Bart" (his dwarven name is too long to fit on his character sheet)

Reiklander Bounty Hunter named Ehrenvoll Urthadar, but we all call him "Flynn"

Reiklander Mystic nicknamed "Jac", short for Jaclyne

Everyone in our party of Glory Hounds is first rank. So far, we've completed Eye for an Eye and just wrapped up Winds of Change. I would say our group has a great combination of skills, both in combat and social encounters. We do lack First Aid and any magic, but our Mystic's Magic Sight helps in that department. We aren't overly powerful though, as most of characters can only take a few big hits before they are killed.

I'll add that while it may seem a bit overpowered to have both an Ironbreaker and a Sword Master in the same group, 4 of our players (myself included) are brand new to WFRP 3rd edition, and several of us have never really roleplayed before (or haven't played in years). Our first major battle was a steep learning curve, but we're settling into our combat roles and our latest battle went better. That is to say, no one passed out and almost died.

Human Roadwarden - All around "good guy" and leader of the group. Holds the record for most times passed out. (He burns through fatigue quickly.)

Human Thug - currently employed by the roadwarden. This guy will pull the gold fillings out of your mouth once your dead.

Human Light Mage - Generaly lost and scared anytime she is outside of town and the main reason the thug sticks with the group (She is his sister).

Dwarf Miner - Recently joined the group and quickly bumped heads with the thug. Helps add some front line muscle the party needed.

NPC - Halfling Rogue - On loan to the group after they did a favor for the local thieves guild. He and the thug get along great and he has a crush on the Mage.

After some PC deaths we look like this...

High Elf - Assassin (former Bounty Hunter)

Human Physician (former Barber-Surgeon)

Dwarf Mercenary (former Ironbreaker)

Human Watchman (former Coachman)

Human Roadwarden

Human Scout (former Rat Catcher)

Dwarf Trollslayer

Human Acolyte (former Apprentice Wizard)

We've had as many as seven PCs in a single session before and it has required some mini-quests for parts of the group but has worked out ok.

Mark

We have

Nigel Von Lancaster...Human Officer - A custom career based off watchman, just replaced resilience with ride.

Dorf... Dwarven Soldier/Troll slayer - who is currently sitting out of our Ashes of Middenheim campaign (as he is slaying his troll)

Tyrel - Human Bright wizard apprentince/acolyte

Pierce Hawthorne - Human bounty hunter

We used to have a barber surgeon, road warden and a Kithband warrior. Two were killed in one adventure and the other left shortly after for story purposes.

We have down-to-earth kind of party:

  • Hunter
  • Boatman (started as Commoner)
  • Ratcatcher

We've only just started and there's going to be a Grey Wizard (apprentice) joining the party.
