So what sort of parties do your players put together?

Here's our current makeup:

Human Dilletante

Dwarf Troll Slayer

Human Barber/Surgeon

Wood Elf Waywatcher

Wood Elf Thief

Nobody wanted to run a caster so they're magic-lean. It makes for an interesting session...

I have:

Human Kislev Mercenary

Dwarf Watchman

Human Hunter

High Elf Swordmaster

Human Initiate of Sigmar

Human Grey Wizard

Been mighty interesting so far....lol - though I did threaten any of the 'less bashy' career's if they went in a bashy direction...lol

In one game I've got:

Human Coachman

Human Zealot

Wood Elf Messanger

Other game I've got:

Human Thief

Human Grey Wizard

Human Initiate of Sigmar

Human Initiate

Human Diletante

High Elf Gambler

Dwarf Student

- Lots of education and the combat capability of a damp sponge.....

Dwarf Soldier

Dwarf Mercenary

Dwarf Watchman

Wood Elf Scout

Lots of combat ability, but the education of a damp sponge.

Well, after noticing how one-sided the party was, the Watchman reorganised his stats and skills a bit, so he's the party's face now.

(Nobody can read! In 1st edition, every warrior had a pretty decent chance to be able to read. I still remember my literate Troll Slayer.)

Wood Elf Hunter-> Waywatcher -> Scout

Human Roadwarden -> Zealot -> Witch Hunter

Human Bright Wizard

Dwarf Ironbreaker -> Soldier -> Mercenary

So far I've had:

Human Celestial Order Apprentice / Dwarf Ironbreaker / Wood-elf Waywatcher / High-elf Dilettante (my first group, very mixed-up. We played through Court Dimon's A Shadow Falls and Sebastian Hickey's That Way Madness Lies and had pretty interesting encounters. The group was very surprised by the orcish negotiation - what? no killings? - and loved the paranoid setting of the sanatorium)

Messenger / Bright Order Apprentice / Soldier / Initiate of Sigmar (all of them human. The same players from before changed their characters to go through Eye for an eye and The gathering storm. We almost finished the first scenario, but real-life forced us to a little stop. Planning to resume play next week)

I'm assembling a group to play TEW, but we haven't yet finished the characters. So far we have a Burgher who loves adventure and wants to be a boatman, a Zealot, and a Grey Order Apprentice. There's still one player to choose a career...

I'd be interested to know how each of these campaigns is evolving seeing how different the makeup of each group is.

the "GM owned PC" is a fully worked out character, with a complete statline and all, also in the very common event of there being a guest dm, I play the pc normally.

To preface: the game that I run is set in 2001, so that does a bit of personality to the pcs.

I have a human Bounty Hunter from Ostland. His first bounty was his own brother who was thought to be a Chaos worshiper. He was near Mordheim when the rock fell, and it changed his eyes to a deep purple color.

Next up is a human Initiate of Sigmar, specifically a Sister of Sigmar. She gets all kinds of the wrong attention from other followers of Sigmar!

Then I have a human Agent, specifically an agent of Grand Prince Siegfried of Reikland. The last game was this character's first, as the player's last character died in the last game.

Finally, I have a High Elf Envoy. Now I know that there weren't any High Elf envoys in the Empire until the 2100's... but the background for this character is special!

Definitely fun so far! And we're actually getting pretty close to rank 2 and second careers for two of them. I wonder how that'll turn out!

My first team was:

Human - Thug, Human - Wizard Apprentice from the Grey Order, Human - Initiate of Shallya most of them got killed in the Grey Mountains. That was when they found a small Chaos Dwarfs temple (on the 5th session). The reason was they got a stupid idea of burrning it all down with dwarf bombs (found in the dungeons below the temple). They almost made it out - the only surviver was the the wizard apprentice.

Second team was:

Human - Wizard Apprentice (the only surviver - he was a rank two Mage), High Elf - Sword Master, Wood Elf - Waywatcher. They also got killed - they did not survived an orc attack at a small village. They died in battle with honour (3rd session).

I'm hoping that the 3dr team will have more luck and will live a little bit longer. But who known - the Old World is a dangerous place.

  • Human Pitfighter
  • Human Agent
  • Human Initiate of Sigmar
  • Human Scout
  • Human Thief

Currently we have:

  • Human Smuggler
  • Dwarf Mercenary
  • Human Zealot (more of a Witch Huntery type)
  • Human Barber-Surgeon

Dwarf Ratcatcher

Human Initiate of Shaylla

Human Bright Apprentice

Human Pit Fighter

Nice balance of combat ability and social skills, plus a small (but vicious) dwarven terrier.

Using draw 3, pick 1, we have just started with:

Interpid Explorers

Human Burgher

Human Mercenary

Human Ratcatcher (never mind the other 2 drawn, "you had me at Ratcatcher")

Human Watchman

Wood Elf Hunter

Did most of the others give their players the possibility to choose from all careers? I am still undecided how I should handle this for the new group that I am currently raising…

I let my team pick. I hate being told what to play myself, so I wouldn't do that to my players. :)

We have:

Human Apprentice Illusionist

Elf Dilettante

Human Initiate

Elf Sword Master

Our Sword Master's away on paternity leave, though, so our party's been a little...tissue-papery lately.

I let our players choose as it is the first time most of them have roleplayed. Thoroughly enjoying the game and everyone is loving the system.

Our party consists of the following.

Dwarf Ratcatcher >>> Hunter. Who is obsessed with trying to convince everyone that Skaven truely exist and spends most of his time drinking to console himself as no one listens.

High Elf Emmisary >>> Burgher. Who is ironically the best fighter having claimed the most scalps. He is thouroughly insane after being vomited on by a river troll.

Human Initiate >>> Disciple of Sigmar. Who constantly rubs every NPC the wrong way and is made to stand outside and wait whilst the party engages in social encounters due to putting his foot in his mouth. He is determined to bring the divine light of Sigmar to the Westlands.

Human Thief >>> Smuggler. Is the moral compass of the party (outside of his regular duties of course), even going as far as to leave gold where he finds it and destroying a Chaos tainted sword that was very powerful.

Human Bounty Hunter >>> Mercenary. Who disappears during most fights and tries to find alternatives to fighting.

Its an intteresting mix and lots of non stereotypical characters.

We started with a random draw for the introductory games. Once we started the primary campaign, I gave the players the choice of picking new characters. The Agent and Pitfighter stuck, the others re-rolled.

Human Initiate of Morr

Human Zealot

Wood Elf Messenger

Wood Elf Wayfinder

Our group has played two sessions. I had each player write a fairly extensive background for an extra point during character creation. They seem to like system thus far.

High Elf Envoy

Human Mercenary

Human Roadwarden

This is what we used for our first two adventures. The first adventure was the demo and was just more of a learning experience so no advances were given. Our next session will be capping off the last adventure and begining The Gathering Storm. I will be letting my players make new characters if they want now that everyone has a better feel for the system but I will be allowing the new character to gain the xp, advance and money of the previous character. I let the player choose from all of the careers. I also use the rule that besides the basic actions only one player can use any of the other powers.

Here's my player's party:

Human Mercenary -> Powerful warrior with his halberd. He is the one who dishes out most damage and most often ends up taking the most damage aswell. Somehow he always seems to tether on the brink of insanity but he hasn't acquired any yet (I'm guessing it's only a matter of time).

Human Gambler -> The group's thief and face. He noticed early that not having combat skills trained was hindering him greatly in battle so he has taken half of his advances out of carreer. As a character he is a true magnificient bastard who steals, seduces and slays his way through life.

Dwarf Watchman -> The group's self-appointed tank and leader. As an honorable dwarf he is either drunk or outraged at the lack of character in most manlings he encounters.

We have played three adventures so far (each taking two sessions) and they have earned 8 experience. It will be very interesting to see what their second carreers will be. The mercenary has been thinking of going for Sigmarite Priest but has realized that it's an uphill carreer with his lack of social skills (Fellowship is often used in prayers). The gambler is thinking of going to another of the rogue carreers, most likely thief. And the dwarven watchman is thinking of taking up the honorable profession of brewer (Burgher).
