World of Tanks - Miniatures Game
Looks cool, hopefully they keep the Russian tank **** toned down.

Wave 1 is laughable. How is an SU-100 fair when the Americans get a M3 Lee? heck, there are still SU-100s in service in a few countries, the M3 Lee was basically obsolete when WW2 started.

Well that was a short lived hope. I can't imagine their balance discussion for that.
I'm still intrigued. I haven't figured out how movement will work yet. I'll probably pass on it because I'm not usually into realism-based games (well, as much as WOT is) but nice to see another miniature game in this style.
I’m actually going to give this a try, been looking into it for a couple weeks now. I’ve got the core set preordered through the local LGS and see what it looks like.

When you get the game, tell us what you think about it.

I haven’t found anything other than a “July” release date, with all that’s going on in the world who knows if it will release on time. Several in my gaming group are willing to take it for a test drive. As soon as we get it in and get a game or two under our belt I’ll report back. One thing that attracted me other than the WWII era was that it’s supposed to be around a half hour game, should be pretty easy to slip a game in here and there around our other games.
Still trying to wrap my head around why I would want to play a "tanks only" wargame when there are many other tabletop wargames that have tanks and more, but I never got into the World of Tanks video game anyways. I mean, when I played 40k, I played Imperial Guard (aka Astra Militarum) so I like tanks but I'm not seeing why I would buy into this.
It’s possibly a bit of nostalgia for me, anyone else old enough for memories of Combat on Atari 2600?
Could also be that it’s aimed at a different type gamer than you, I like tanks but wouldn’t want to get into a full scale game with soldiers and all. It’s kind of like my interest in X-Wing but no desire whatsoever to play Legion.

Maybe an SU-100 costs a lot of points or whatever their system is. Also, not sure how realistic this game will be, I've never played World of Tanks only World of Warships, which is pretty arcadey.

Maybe, I'm sure there is some logic behind it. I played back when it was still in it's early stages and it was by no means realistic. It's anecdotal but I frequently got in matches where T-34s would be paired against lower tier tanks (me) that couldn't touch them. Maybe it was just player distribution but it's no fun going against something your entire team has no chance of beating. War Thunder had a similar issue in it's early game tiers so maybe that's just how those type of games end up.
At least the models look nice, I've always liked the Panzer IV with side armor.

The video game has a huge following in the East European States, probably there is a bigger market there for the physical game as well.
Played the WoT Blitz version a bit some years ago, also tried the full version at a friend's place. World of Warships I only watched friends playing then, and one of the children plays it now occasionally. Historically there was a lot of "approximation" in the Tank game, and a lot of tanks in battle which in reality never made it farther than paperworks or the occasional prototyp. Also a wild mixing of time periods, thus having battles of tanks decades apart in reality.
World of Tanks Blitz was back then even more arcadey gameplay than Warships.
Factions were partly imbalanced. Tough matchup luck for a lot of weaker/specialized tanks (loss at start as you e.g. were one-shotted by the higher tiers if they saw you, or e.g. could not penetrate at all (which was a huge problem in many missions)).
A boardgame starter set probably is more balanced than a video game, question is what they do with the expansions.
Not so much of importance for a board/minigame discussion, as the boardgame is handled by GF9 and not the videogame parent company, but three things made me stop playing the video game WoT Blitz:
-Every time they did an upgrade or even the most minor bug fix you no longer could watch your recordings of older games, as they were made incompatible
-A lot of pay to win in the Blitz version back then. E.g. better, more powerful and penetrating "gold" ammo or crew upgrades payed for with real money made it very problematic to win against, when self only having the vanilla stuff.
-On top of it they were unwilling to deal with cheaters and hackers. I had video evidence of a blatant and obvious hack. The offender only received a warning, but could continue to play unhindered.
I've never played World of Tanks, but I have friends who play it on Xbox and who are/were big fans - mainly due to loving tanks and tank warfare.
Personally, it seems to me that this has the potential to be a really good table top miniatures game. I'm imagining an X-Wing style game, but with each unit having a single mobile firing arc, many more terrain and obstacle options and true line of sight.
Going to keep an eye on this one!
So it appears the release for this has been pushed back until September, so it will be a bit longer before I get my hands on a core set. 🤷♂️

Welcome to Wargaming...
I will own up to playing WoT, it’s great if you have a family as a game lasts 5-15 minutes if you’re needed for anything it’s more than likely you are close to finishing. I have 10’s of thousands of games and I would not buy anything from Wargaming. Their customer support is atrocious, tank balance is non existent and Russian bias is real. I haven’t played a game in 2 weeks and I don’t miss it, but I will probably be back at some stage.
As to a table top game? Would rather invest my money into a reputable gaming company.
