Emon / Sol / Nym

By eljms, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I searched the forum but couldn't see a thread on how to fly these three together (if it's there please point me to it!)

They feel like they could combine pretty well for a Scum bombing list. I've tried the following out a couple of times on Fly Casual just for fun. I've no idea how it would do against real opponents.

Sol Sixxa (46)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Skilled Bombardier (2)
Seismic Charges (3)
Proximity Mines (6)

Ship total: 62 Half Points: 31 Threshold: 5

Captain Nym (48)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Seismic Charges (3)
Proton Bombs (5)

Ship total: 61 Half Points: 31 Threshold: 5

Emon Azzameen (71)
Proximity Mines (6)

Ship total: 77 Half Points: 39 Threshold: 5

Total: 200

Choices:

- Proximity Mines are fantastic if you can get them to land - not sure whether giving them to both Emon and Sol is the right call though

- I hate paying for Andrasta plus more bombs, hence maybe a bit light on bombs on Emon. I'd love him to have one of Nym's payload upgrades but don't want to spend the points on the title

- Ion Turrets: Ion works great when bombs are in play because if you do Ionize someone you can really make them pay

How would you build it?

Emon with just Prox Mines seems like it'd probably be pretty good. Pricey, but yeah, probably solid.

The only thing I might do: drop Skilled Bombardier and switch one set of Seismic Charges to Proton Bombs. Having 4 Seismics seems like a lot.

It's hard to change anything, since the list really doesn't have anything to cut. All the bombs and turrets seem good, with nothing unnecessary. A shame there aren't a few points for Delayed Fuses, but it looks OK.

Is it going to be the best list in X-Wing? Hard to say. Is it going to be one of the better scum bomber lists possible? Probably.

It is. Honestly, I think I might just drop them from Nym - he doesn't need them and rarely uses them (based on my very limited play testing). I'm loathe to cut Skilled Bombardier on Sol though - having access to the 2-speed templates for his bombs can be pretty critical.

If I cut the seismics from Nym, what would I do with the points?

I don't think I really want Delayed Fuses - especially with Nym on the table.

Options:

- A Hull for Nym

- Slave I + Contraband Cybernetics for Emon

- Crack shot for everyone

- Crew? Qi'ra, Zuckuss?

Lol - that's quite a high bar to set. :) I think we can safely say 'no' - but I'll settle for playable!

Fuses are probably a pretty personal thing. If they fit the rhythm of how you drop your bombs, they can be really sweet. If they don't click, eh, no big deal.

Slave 1 on Eamon probably is pretty good; 4 is high enough that it probably matters.

But it's hard to argue against Crack Shot...

At least one of the scurrgs is going to be focused down pretty fast, certainly faster than they can drop 4 devices, and it's hard to make up their points over 60. That said, the other one could. Personally I find that running them with single device load and turret is about ideal. I'd drop both seismics, give one of them crack shot, and give Emon lone wolf.

I've flown this in real life a couple of times now (at a table, with actual people ... masks, hand sanitizer and all!) and it's been fun. I went with Slave I and Contraband on Emon.

I'm trying to get a Seismic Charge placed strategically before proper engagement that Nym can hold for some area control. But yeah, in one of the games Sol died before he could use much of his stuff.

I think the list is going to be a good challenge for Aces, possibly good against a swarm (untested in real life), but cannon fodder for Beef. Two games is a pretty small sample size though, and figuring out how to fly it well would take me a few more iterations. Lone Wolf on Emon is a good thought if I flank with him. At the moment I'm trying to bait people to come to me through the obstacles and keeping my ships together, flying around the outside. This isn't bad for the Scurrgs with their Ion Turrets and Barrel Rolls. Making sure I got arc with Emon was tricky one game.

Thumbs up to this, at a minimum. :)

Maybe this:

- Emon (Skilled Bombardier, Proximity Mines, Marauder)
- Sol (Ion Cannon Turret, Skilled Bombardier, Proximity Mines)
- Nym (Expert Handling, Ion Cannon Turret)

200 points
