Rieekan Aceholes vs. Dodonna's MC30s and Lancers

By Admiral Calkins, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

The first of my two games this weekend was against my regular weekend opponent from Cochise Squadron (he has not yet joined the forums, but I keep encouraging him to do so). Here are the lists:

Name: Rieekan's Aceholes
Faction: Rebel
Commander: General Rieekan

Assault: Surprise Attack
Defense: Fleet Ambush
Navigation: Superior Positions

Assault Frigate Mk2 B (72)
• General Rieekan (30)
• Adar Tallon (10)
• Caitken and Shollan (6)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Gallant Haven (8)
= 137 Points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
• Ray Antilles (7)
• Auxiliary Shields Team (3)
• Yavaris (5)
= 72 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Toryn Farr (7)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Bright Hope (2)
= 39 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

Squadrons:
• Nym (21)
• Luke Skywalker (20)
• Biggs Darklighter (19)
• Jan Ors (19)
• Wedge Antilles (19)
• Norra Wexley (17)
• YT-1300 (13)
= 128 Points

Total Points: 396

I have never played any version of Rieekan Aces (going through my old pictures, I realized I have in fact played Rieekan, but it was a token-centered list), so I figured after playing Armada for almost three years that it was due. This may not be the optimal squadron setup, but it seemed fun with Nym and a generic YT-1300 to support Biggs.

My opponent really wanted to try out Lancers and so he paired them with Dodonna and three of his favorite Rebel ship. Again, I appreciate him continuing to branch out. Having said that, I know he is going to come at me with Vader double Cymoons when I least expect it.

My opponent had initiative and choose to be second player. I selected Dangerous Territory as the objective.

Deployment: Obstacle deployment was a little weird. He started out by placing the station on my side of the board right at Distance 5 of my edge. I immediately put down an asteroid field Distance 1 away from it, thinking that I could take the face-up then heal on the station. He then just put all his obstacles behind that, while I ended up placing the final obstacle on the far side of the board. While he placed his MC30s about Distance 3 from each other going Speed 4 (with his squadrons in between), I placed my ships in a line across from his, with Yavaris and Bright Hope going Speed 1, Gallant Haven going Speed 2, and the other GR-75 going Speed 3.

Round 1: I started the game off by nabbing the first objective token off the asteroid field with my GR-75 and getting a Structural Damage chosen for me by Dodonna. I then slow-rolled forward, getting my squadrons ready to defend or pounce. He barreled his MC30s forward, which seemed to indicate that he was just going to use them to ram my flagship until it burst into flames. Only one of his Lancers was able to engage my squadrons, trading a damage with the YT-1300. I gained two Victory tokens this round (the other being from Gallant Haven on a debris field).

Round 2: I started the round by activating the GR-75, landing on the station to get the objective token and to remove one of my facedown damage cards. He sped forward with Admonition after peppering my squadrons, ramming into Gallant Haven . Yavaris then activated, with Luke doing no damage after Admonition discarded its Evade tokens, with Nym discarding the Redirects; the combined effort of Gallant Haven and Norra finally took it down. While Foresight rammed into my flagship as well, Gallant Haven was still able to get away. His Lancers descended on Yavaris , but thanks to Auxiliary Shields Team, could only get one facedown damage card through. Biggs and the YT-1300 were able to destroy his Hawk as well. My opponent looked at the score and where my bombers were located around his unnamed MC30 and decided to call the game. At the end of the game / 2nd Round, the score was 152-0 (8-3, 152 MoV).

Thoughts: I think this game could have turned out much differently if 1) my opponent placed obstacles on his side of the board and 2) used the combined effort of his ships and squadrons to take out my squadrons. Because his Lancers were Rogue and were not activating during the Ship Phase, he could destroy my squadrons (except for the Adar Tallon'd one) during the squadron phase with zero fear that they would be Rieekan'd. His decision to ignore my squadrons and to simply ram my flagship directly put him in a situation that Yavaris bombers wanted to be in and turned out to be an ineffective strategy against trying to block in a (then) Speed 3 Assault Frigate.

Hope you enjoyed the BATREP!
