Freezing in the frozen wastes

A small practical question.

The rules state that allies canĀ“t use items and whenever a piece of equipment or effect can affect them the card usually reads something like "activate to xxxx your hero or one of your allies", "discard to xxxx one of your allies" etc.

Now in the frozen wastes you can get forage items from defeating certain challenges. They might read something like "activate to prevent 1 frost", without referencing to allies. The question then is wether these items can be used to also prevent frost to allies or if they are barred from this effect since allies usually cannot benefit from items unless specifically expressed by the item/effect.

Any and all thoughts on the subject will be appreciated.

In theory, I can see an "official ruling" going in either direction. For our group, we allow the forage items to be used to protect heroes and allies, since they are not a traditional item. Plus the frost counters effect effect both the hero and allies equally so it just seems "fair" to allow the player the option of which party members are protected and which take the frost counters.

These are some good comments. I do hope we get an official ruling on this.
But I do agree, since frost affects Heroes and Allies it really is 'fair' that items that prevent frost can be used on allies. Good call.

Thanks for the input. Was really leaning towards this answer as well. Nice to see someone in agreement on the subject

The cards do not state activate to cancel # (Frost) on your hero.
The cards state to activate to cancel # (Frost).

So activate to cancel # (Frost) on either a hero or ally.
