Main scheme threshold vs character loss

By GreenTea, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

Hey everyone! Just finished our first game with an ambiguous win. Hoping for some clarification.

Three players were up against Rhino’s breaking into the SHIELD facility scheme.

The scheme’s losing threshold is 7 per player.

In the penultimate round of play, the main scheme had 11 threat total, with a threshold of 21 (3 players).

Rhino did a massive attack against Spider-Man, who couldn’t defend against it all and was eliminated.

Does that mean that at the end of the villain turn, the threshold to win drops to 14 from 21? Or does it remain at 21 because it’s per-player, not per-character?

It seems unbelievably harsh if the threshold changes if a character is eliminated, easily dropping the threshold low enough that any leftover threat triggers an immediate loss.

After all, the second lose condition is if all the players are eliminated, but likely this wouldn’t happen before the main threat accumulation goes beyond the threshold.

Thanks in advance!

The threshold doesn't revert, no. Whatever value the "per player" symbol holds at the beginning of the game stays consistent throughout. It should all be under "Player Elimination" in the RRG.

That text is not entirely clear. The closest it comes is to saying that the eliminated players win or lose along with the rest of the group.

Nevertheless, I’m leaning towards what you’re describing as well. It doesn’t seem right that the character loss could represent an instant win for the villains.

(Additionally, there’s no clarification under “Main Scheme” either.)

Ah, it might be under the "Per Player" section that explains that symbol. Sorry I'm too lazy to actually check 😅

Yes, under Per Player:

Quote

The [per player] icon next to a value multiplies that value by the number of players who started the scenario.
• If a player is eliminated, this value does not change.
