2. When carrying a shield, You may ad 2 to your strength in battle.
3. You may ad 1 to the result when protecting yourself with a shield.

I think a +2 is a touch too powerful for initial start-up.

I think a better suited alternative would be

Shields give +1 to battle. Magic shields give +2 to battle.

I have to look through the decks and check how the wording is on the shields.

I believe some are craft based. If so working some of those in may be tougher. (+2 to combat style)
